Chapter 29: Oh No, I've Really Become a Top Streamer
Jiang Yun’s words struck a chord with many viewers in the live stream. After all, anyone who’s been in a relationship knows that once your girlfriend is angry, as long as she’s still upset, nothing you say will matter. She simply won’t listen. As for trying to hug her, that’s even more impossible. Some girls may not have long legs, but when they’re angry, they walk astonishingly fast. They twist their bodies as they storm off, making it impossible for you to catch them.
Yet, Mozi had a different opinion about Jiang Yun’s words. “If you can’t hug her, just figure something out. The girl’s already angry, why can’t you give in a little?”
“Figure something out?” Jiang Yun let out a cold laugh. “Heh, should I just wrestle her in the street?”
Mozi: …
“You deserved to get dumped!” Mozi said quietly.
Even Daimei and Dundu couldn’t resist chiming in. “That’s why, Yunzi, you not having a girlfriend is inevitable.”
“I think it’s a miracle you ever found one in the first place.”
Jiang Yun didn’t care at all about their teasing. “It’s just a breakup—no big deal. Goodbye means goodbye, the next one will be even more obedient!”
“So have you found your next one yet?”
Jiang Yun: …
“Damn it, can’t we just play the game? Why are we talking about relationships?”
His words made everyone laugh.
“Oh, someone hasn’t found the next one~”
“You say the next one will be more obedient, but can you even find another?”
“So even Yunzi makes mistakes. Regret breaking up now, don’t you?”
At this point, Jiang Yun realized they were using him for comedic effect. If he were streaming himself, maybe he’d play along, but he wasn’t. So he simply chose silence and focused on the game.
Mozi wanted to start a new topic, but Jiang Yun dodged every attempt. She could tell Jiang Yun wasn’t in the mood for banter, so she turned to Daimei and Dundu instead.
Time ticked by, and the atmosphere in the stream was quite harmonious. Thanks to the earlier legendary exchange between Mozi and Jiang Yun, their traffic soared, making this evening a profitable one for all.
Soon, midnight arrived.
Jiang Yun glanced at the clock and said, “Alright, you guys keep playing. It’s time for me to start my stream.”
“You’re starting your stream, so why aren’t you playing with us?” Daimei asked quickly.
Mozi and Dundu spoke up to urge him to stay. “Yeah, just keep playing. You can turn on your stream, no problem.”
“Exactly, playing games won’t affect anything.”
The three all knew that some of their viewers were Jiang Yun’s fans. Once Jiang Yun started his own stream, their viewer counts would drop. If Jiang Yun kept interacting with them, the loss might not be so bad. But if he stopped, they’d lose a lot more viewers.
That’s why they pleaded with him.
Hearing their words, Jiang Yun complained, “Aside from Daimei, who else here is from our platform? Daimei can play with you all, but I can’t. I haven’t signed with SharkFight, nor with any guild. If the officials use that as an excuse to shut down my stream, what then?”
Mozi and Dundu: …
He sounded a bit timid, but they knew he was right. Usually, streamers aren’t allowed to interact with streamers from other platforms; that’s the rule everywhere. Mozi, Daimei, and Dundu could ignore this only because they were big enough, and their interactions were with other big streamers. Both their guilds and the platform turned a blind eye.
But Jiang Yun wasn’t on their level. He’d become popular recently, but his foundation was still too thin compared to theirs. Without a guild behind him, and with no contract with SharkFight, if he streamed with other platform streamers, the platform might really use it as an excuse to shut him down, then force him into a contract negotiation.
Jiang Yun had already expressed he didn’t want to sign with any guild or platform right now, so it made sense to be cautious.
“Alright then, Yunzi, you go ahead and start your stream. We three will keep playing,” Mozi said, a little disappointed.
No sooner had she spoken than Daimei said, “Wait! It’s you two playing, not us three.”
Mozi and Dundu: ????
“Daimei, what do you mean? Are you abandoning us?”
Daimei tilted her chin up. “You two aren’t SharkFight streamers, but I am! Since Yunzi is about to start his stream, to make sure my viewers can find his stream, I’ll just broadcast his stream directly!”
Jiang Yun: …
Are you really worried your viewers can’t find my stream? I almost don’t have the heart to call you out.
“Alright, enough chatter. I’m logging off now, we’ll play again sometime,” Jiang Yun said goodbye and left the voice chat.
By then, viewers from the other three streams had already rushed over and started spamming Jiang Yun’s dark screen.
“It’s midnight, open the door!”
“It’s already midnight, why aren’t you opening up?”
“You brat, it’s time to start work!”
“Jiang Yun, open up! I’m your dad!”
“Yunzi, if you don’t start your stream, I’ll claim to be your dad right here!”
“…”
Seeing the barrage of comments, Jiang Yun glanced at his follower count. At some point, he’d passed a million followers! This surprised him a little, but only a little; he didn’t really care about that now.
He adjusted a few settings and opened his stream.
“Brothers, it’s been a day—did you miss me?” Jiang Yun greeted the viewers as usual.
The chat immediately flooded with demands for an apology.
“Apologize! You’re five minutes late!”
“You promised to start at midnight. It’s already five past! Apologize!”
“Apologize! Bow your head now!”
“Five minutes late and still no apology? Fame’s gone to your head!”
“Alright, alright, now that you’re a big streamer you think you can slack off? So late and still no apology?”
“All day you only stream two hours, and you’re still late?!”
“Late today, eating your fans tomorrow! Apologize!”
“…”
Meanwhile, Daimei opened Jiang Yun’s stream. Seeing the wall of apology comments, Daimei’s mouth hung open slightly. She saw her own past reflected in his stream. When she first blew up, her stream was exactly like this.
“Oh no, brothers, Yunzi really is becoming a big streamer now,” Daimei joked to her viewers.
No sooner had she spoken than she noticed her own viewer count had dropped by a third.
Daimei: …
Alright, alright, even simulcasting isn’t enough to keep you here?
