Chapter 96: Huang Wei's Assistance
Chapter 96: Huang Wei’s Assistance
Upon hearing his second uncle’s words, Ye Feng finally understood a bit more. The Education Bureau was the local authority overseeing the education system, responsible for managing the teaching staff, school infrastructure, properties, and educational land. So if that person had already established connections with the bureau’s leaders, his rise to power was inevitable.
“I originally thought about asking a friend at the Education Bureau for help, but now he’s directly connected with the higher-ups, and even the principal supports him. I have no choice but to reluctantly relinquish my position as Director of Teaching,” Ye Jianjun said with a heavy heart. After all, he had achieved real results in that role and letting go so suddenly was difficult to accept.
“That’s not necessarily the end of it. There might still be a way out. Come on, Uncle, let’s eat first!” Seeing the waiter bring the dishes, Ye Feng smiled warmly. With the waiter present, it wasn’t the right time to complain—he knew that schools had their own unspoken rules.
As the food was placed on the table, Ye Jianjun urged Ye Feng to eat more vegetables. Soon, the waiter opened a bottle of wine, and a rich aroma filled the small private room. “Ye Feng, ever since you returned, I’ve been so busy with work that we haven’t had a proper meal together. Today will be the first.”
“Heh, Uncle, you’re too polite,” Ye Feng replied with a grin, noticing his uncle’s mood lighten. Now tasting the cafeteria food, he realized it was actually quite good—fresh, flavorful, and not greasy. Living at school wasn’t bad at all.
Ye Jianjun gently clinked glasses with Ye Feng and took a sip of wine, his face full of contentment. “How’s work been lately? I heard Director Wen thinks highly of you and promoted you to Security Department Manager. Nice, nice, keep it up.”
Hehe, Ye Feng wanted to say he hadn’t just been promoted to Security Manager—the boss had personally elevated him too. “It’s going well. Director Wen’s a good man, treats his subordinates well.”
“That’s good to hear. Ah, this time with my situation, I really feel helpless. I’m not the type to try to solve things through other means. I heard the guy running for Director of Teaching has already sent plenty of gifts to the higher-ups, so this is a tough one,” Ye Jianjun sighed in frustration.
Hearing this, Ye Feng thought, why not try to contact some higher-ranking official? Huang Wei still held considerable influence in this area; perhaps she could speak to the higher-ups on their behalf. With that in mind, he asked, “Uncle, if we find someone to help now, who do you think is most suitable and effective?”
Ye Jianjun pondered. Naturally, people above the Education Bureau’s leaders had more clout, but he didn’t know anyone at that level and doubted they’d have time to help. Suddenly, a name came to his mind—but he quickly dismissed the thought.
Seeing his uncle’s troubled expression, Ye Feng understood there was more to this. He asked boldly, “If Huang Wei from the Justice Sect steps in, would this problem be solved?”
Back when Huang Tianba ruled You County with an iron fist, the Justice Sect wielded immense power. Though Huang Tianba was gone, their influence remained—and who wouldn’t show them some respect?
“Huang Sect Leader?” Ye Jianjun was shocked to hear his nephew address her by name. If Huang Wei intervened, there’d be no problem at all. The Justice Sect’s reputation in You County was well known. “If we can get her help, this matter would be completely settled!”
“Great, I’ll call Huang Wei right now and let her know,” Ye Feng said. Hearing this, Ye Jianjun felt like he might burst—was his nephew joking? How could he know the Sect Leader, and address her so familiarly? This was extraordinary. But seeing Ye Feng’s serious demeanor, he believed him. After all, his nephew never failed to surprise him.
Ye Feng dialed a number, and after a few rings, a melodious voice came through: “Honey, why the sudden call? Missing me?”
Ye Jianjun’s eyes widened in disbelief. What on earth was going on? When did Ye Feng become someone’s husband, and why was the Sect Leader speaking so intimately?
“Yeah, I miss you,” Ye Feng replied, completely ignoring his uncle’s astonished expression. “Listen, Xiao Wei, there’s something I might need your help with.”
“Humph, I knew you’d call because you needed something,” Huang Wei pouted, sounding slightly aggrieved. But once she heard Ye Feng needed her help, she quickly asked, “What’s going on? What do you need me to do?”
Now this was a real woman—straight to the point. Ye Jianjun was baffled by his nephew’s luck. Ye Feng smiled lightly and said, “Well, my uncle is vice principal and Director of Teaching at the county high school. But someone has contacted higher-ups aiming to remove him from that position. I wanted to see if you could help, or maybe find someone to stabilize his role.”
“That’s no big deal. I’ll talk to Shen Jing, the director of the Education Bureau, and smooth things over. As long as your uncle is doing well, I’m sure the principal won’t have any objections,” Huang Wei said with a smile. After all, it was beneficial to build good relations with the Ye family’s elders.
Listening to Huang Wei’s words, Ye Jianjun wanted to leap for joy. His luck had truly turned around. With Huang Wei’s help, this would no longer be a problem. “Thanks so much. Have you eaten? I’m having dinner with my nephew now. He’s been worried about this, but with your help, I think he’ll be at ease.”
“I’ve already eaten. Hehe, why don’t you update me tonight? Then we can have dinner together!” Huang Wei smiled gently. “By the way, tell your uncle not to worry—this small matter is nothing for me, Huang Wei. Also, send him my regards. You two enjoy your meal.”
“Got it!” After hanging up, Ye Jianjun’s face was alight with happiness. All his previous gloom and disappointment vanished like mist.
