Chapter 069 Secret Base
Chapter 069: The Secret Base
While Ye Feng and his companions were training diligently, in a base on the eastern outskirts of the provincial capital, a large group of people—numbering nearly a hundred—were also busy with their own drills. Standing to the side, clad in black, was a man with a cold, stern face. This man was none other than Jia. Originally, his plans seemed flawless, but the unexpected emergence of Ye Feng shattered them. The mere thought of Ye Feng filled Jia with rage.
Suddenly, a middle-aged man with an icy expression approached Jia. "Boss, do you have any instructions?" Jia simply shook his head. "Continue with your training. I'll observe for now. Later, I want to see you put in real effort." A faint chill glimmered in Jia's eyes, making the man beside him shudder.
"Yes, sir!" the man replied, then quietly stepped back and resumed guiding the group. Their training was divided into practical combat, paired fighting, marksmanship, and more. Surveying the grandeur before him, Jia felt a swell of satisfaction. If everything succeeded, he would surely rise above all others.
Lost in his fantasies, Jia's lips curled with pride. He pictured a future where his achievements would bring glory to his name and his reputation would endure for generations. These thoughts made him all the more pleased, yet he knew hard work was still required. Just last night, he'd been harshly reprimanded—thanks to Ye Feng, that brat. Jia swore to tear Ye Feng to pieces.
After the failed operation that night, Jia calmed down and analyzed Ye Feng carefully. He ordered a comprehensive investigation, learning that Ye Feng was a retired special forces soldier with considerable skills and perhaps a dubious relationship with Wen Biyun, the owner of the Venus Hotel in You County.
Then came the matter with Justice Gate. Jia confirmed Ye Feng had connections to Huang Shan and Huang Wei. Since Huang Shan was influential in the provincial capital, Jia enacted a minor scheme to force her return, hoping to ease the pressure on Hua Qiang. Yet, Hua Qiang still failed in the end.
Upon hearing of Hua Qiang's troubles, Jia had no choice but to abandon him, as he was no longer of any use. Such is society, such is reality—when you've lost your value, you're discarded without hesitation. "Damn it, Hua Qiang, you fool!"
After watching for a while, Jia walked over, prompting everyone to halt their activities. Though his steps seemed unhurried, they were light, and as he moved, a subtle breeze accompanied him. Those nearby watched him with reverence and trembling hearts—Jia was truly formidable.
"Have you worked hard, brothers?" Jia's voice thundered, and the crowd responded in unison, "Not at all!"
"Good, very good. You’ve performed admirably. As the saying goes, ‘Raise an army for a thousand days, use it for a moment.’ Now is the time I need you. Are you afraid to die?" Jia’s powerful voice echoed throughout the factory base.
"No!" they answered as one, faces filled with righteous determination, as if death meant nothing to them. Looking at Jia, it was as though they saw their savior, ready to repay him with their lives.
"Excellent, very excellent. Trust me, if we work hard for a few more years, you will earn lifelong honor, and your descendants will rise above others because of you. Now, I’ll personally teach you a palm technique so you can progress further!" Jia smiled, then his body seemed to float upward. If Ye Feng were here, he’d have to admit Jia’s martial arts were remarkable.
The onlookers were filled with awe. Their leader was truly powerful. Jia's body trembled, then he launched into a mighty palm technique, displaying impressive skill. Everyone watched intently—this was a rare opportunity to learn real martial arts.
Finally, Jia aimed at a wooden board some distance away and struck it with his palm. The board shattered completely under the force of his blow, causing everyone to gasp. Jia was indeed their leader for good reason, and he was pleased with their astonishment.
"Ha, continue your training," Jia said, then left the grounds. As he walked out, a figure appeared beside him—a pale-faced man holding a sword, looking every bit like an ancient swordsman, his eyes flickering with intensity.
Meanwhile, in the courtyard of the provincial military district, two people were relaxing under a tree: an old man and a pure, innocent young woman.
"Xiao Ling, do you really think Ye Feng is extraordinary? I seldom hear you praise anyone," the old man chuckled, looking at the beauty before him.
"Grandfather, why would I lie to you? He truly isn’t ordinary. When that little girl was drowning and needed emergency care, I expected a lot of fuss, but Ye Feng simply pressed and massaged her abdomen, and the water came out instantly!" The young woman took a sip of tea and smiled gently.
"Oh, such a miraculous person exists? Years ago in the army, I saw a lay disciple from Shaolin use internal energy to force a bullet out of the skin. I was amazed. Later, that Shaolin disciple died in battle, and I never saw such skills again," the old man lamented, recalling how promising that soldier had been before dying on the battlefield.
"Wow, could Ye Feng be a Shaolin lay disciple?" The young woman felt a pang of loss; she’d heard Shaolin disciples could not marry. What would she do? Heaven, how could she have such thoughts? Did she really like a rogue? Thinking of that rascal, her heart fluttered with sweet confusion.
"Hmm, could it be you like that brat?" The old man's eyes flashed with curiosity. His granddaughter had never spoken of boys before, and he’d just noticed her joy when mentioning Ye Feng, sparking thoughts in his mind.
"No, of course not," the young woman immediately protested. How could she admit to her grandfather she liked that rogue? Thinking of how he’d taken liberties in public and even peeked at her in the fitting room, she flushed with anger and embarrassment.
"Heh, I have my own ideas. You don’t have to admit it. It’s your generation’s business anyway; I’m too old to meddle," the old man said happily, already scheming. He happened to have some matters to attend to, and now that Ye Feng had appeared, it was time to see what he could do.
"Grandfather, how can you say such things!" The young woman pouted playfully, glancing at him. The old man laughed with satisfaction, but then suddenly began coughing.
