Chapter 114: Routine Inspection

When Ye Feng heard Ning Jing’s request, he was momentarily stunned. Could such a wonderful thing really be happening? He felt like jumping for joy. Damn, being able to escort Ning Jing back to her university would be an incredible experience, especially the prospect of chatting with a campus beauty about life and ideals. His heart raced with excitement.

"What? Are you… unwilling?" The big idiot! She was offering him a chance to impress her, and he wasn't even cherishing it. She thought about how many men had been pestering her lately, and she hadn't even agreed to walk a single block with any of them. Letting this man escort her back to campus was a huge honor, yet he was hesitating. "If you don't want to, then forget it."

"No, no, absolutely not! I… I was just in disbelief. Right, let’s go now." Ye Feng was practically bursting with laughter. God, was he too blessed tonight? He had been bestowed with the heavy responsibility of escorting a beautiful campus belle back to school. It was truly a blessing accumulated over several lifetimes.

Seeing Ye Feng’s eager, monkey-like demeanor, Ning Jing couldn't help but smile. "Aren't you going to wait for your brothers?" Ye Feng realized this wouldn't do; he was out trying to pick up girls, so how could he let Chu Yun and the others tag along? He quickly explained, "Let's go first; they’ll find their own way back."

"Oh!" Ning Jing replied, casting a glance at Ye Feng with her bright, intelligent eyes. This man was really quite decent. Although he sometimes appeared a bit goofy, he was actually quite endearing. Of course, the unique masculine aura he exuded was what truly drew her in.

Chu Yun and his companions had given Brother Huang and his crew a sound beating. When they came out looking for Ye Feng, they saw him walking away with the beauty and couldn't help but sigh. "Damn, a guy who prioritizes women over his brothers." Still, they were very satisfied with the beauty. A man as outstanding as Brother Feng deserved a stunning woman; ordinary, unrefined girls just wouldn't be a match for him.

"Haha!" The three brothers laughed and began walking back to the Venus Hotel along the path they had come. They had extorted quite a bit of money from Brother Huang and Brother Biao that night. Back when they were still on active duty, they would often do the same—after catching criminals, they would shake them down for a sum to treat themselves to a feast.

Ye Feng dropped Ning Jing off at her university, bade her a smiling farewell, and rushed back to the Venus Hotel. He trusted that Chu Yun and the others would have made it back by now; after all, if they couldn't even manage that, coming from a special forces background, it would be a total disgrace. Damn.

Watching Ye Feng’s retreating figure, Ning Jing fell into deep thought. Was this man too perfect? The aura he radiated was so captivating, especially his hidden capabilities, which made her feel as if she were about to lose herself. Liu Jun slowly walked up to her. "Xiao Ning, go take a shower and get some rest. We’ll go shopping tomorrow, it’s fine!"

"Thank you, Xiao Jun!" Although Liu Jun had his share of flaws and shortcomings, he was actually quite good to her. Ning Jing gave him a grateful look, patted his arm, took her pajamas from the closet, and headed to the bathroom. She really did need a good shower.

As soon as Ye Feng returned to the Venus Hotel, he was greeted by Wen Biyun. Seeing him return so late, she asked anxiously, "Feng, are you alright?" Because Chu Yun and the others had returned earlier and kept their mouths shut about the night's events—fearing that if their "sister-in-law" knew Brother Feng had been out chasing girls, a world war would break out—they had only muttered vaguely that he would be back later. Wen Biyun had been waiting for him, so how could she not be relieved now that he was finally back?

"Haha, I’m fine, my dear wife. You were waiting up for me so late? You’ve worked hard." Ye Feng looked at her with gratitude. Having had some drinks earlier, the flush on Wen Biyun’s face hadn't fully faded, making her look as if she were covered in a rosy glow—absolutely enchanting.

"Who was waiting for you? I… I was just checking on things," Wen Biyun said, feeling guilty. In truth, she had been worried sick the entire time he was gone, fearing something might have happened to him. Only when he finally appeared did the weight lift from her heart.

"Hehe, I know, I know. You've worked hard, wifey." Seeing no one else around, Ye Feng wrapped his arms around her slender waist and began to stroke her gently, causing her body to tremble slightly. "You lecher, people are walking by!"

"Fine, then let’s go to our room." With that, Ye Feng took her hand and led her away. Within minutes, the room was filled with moving moans and heavy breathing, blending together into a beautiful, intoxicating nocturnal symphony.

While Ye Feng had been living a carefree life, things were not going well for Ma Long. The Public Security Bureau had been coming by every few days to inspect his club—checking hygiene, safety, and even property documents. This left Ma Long feeling incredibly depressed.

If they just inspected, that would be one thing, but they arrived in police cruisers. Many customers, seeing this, started whispering among themselves, wondering if something was wrong with the Morning Dragon Club. Why else would the authorities be hovering over them every few days with sirens and cruisers?

Of course, many patrons assumed it was just routine, trusting that the club was clean and would pass. After all, they weren't members; they just came to spend money, and if they didn't, they could always spend it on shopping or chasing girls elsewhere.

However, the members were getting anxious. If the club were to be shut down, wouldn't their membership fees go down the drain? They demanded an explanation, so Ma Long had to step up, assuring everyone that the club would remain open and urging both new and old patrons to continue visiting. Only then did people calm down a little.

But the problem wouldn't go away. The police cruisers remained parked outside, and whenever customers arrived, the officers would stop them to ask intrusive questions like how many people lived in their household. It was absurd, and the customers were starting to feel uneasy.

Watching his once-bustling club become deserted, Ma Long panicked. "Damn, if this keeps up, I won't be able to stay in business." He sighed internally; at this rate, the club would be forced to close its doors for good.

Zhang Wei, who stood nearby, could see through Ma Long’s thoughts. They had all witnessed the business declining, and they understood his anxiety. "Brother Long, it’ll be fine. It should pass in a while. Didn't you go see the higher-ups yesterday? What did they say?"

"Sigh, they don't even know what's going on. They said the orders came directly from the top, claiming it's a routine inspection of all clubs in the provincial capital. All the paperwork is in order, so there's nothing we can do!"

"No way! Damn, is this what they call a 'routine inspection'? Every day they come to check this or that. I’ve even heard from old customers that they’re being stopped and questioned for no reason," Zhang Wei said indignantly, especially thinking of how arrogant the officers acted, shouting and acting like they owned the place.

"Yeah, I want to take them down too. It makes me so angry just thinking about it. But there’s nothing we can do. They’re carrying the state’s badge and packing heat; we can’t go head-to-head with them," Ma Long said helplessly. Damn, he was about to be driven insane.
