While Ye Feng was still indulging in romance, a man sat leisurely on a genuine-leather sofa in a villa in the provincial capital. Behind him stood the cold and merciless man, his eyes fixed intently on some distant point. Before the seated man stood four muscular men, whose codenames were East, South, West, and North. They were his most trusted subordinates.

The man in the chair was A, one of Ye Feng’s greatest enemies. The last time, Ye Feng had ruined A’s plans in You County, and the higher-ups had given him a merciless dressing-down. A had poured all the resentment he felt from that humiliation onto Ye Feng and was now doing everything in his power to kill the boy.

Whenever Ye Feng crossed his mind, A’s face filled with hatred. That damn brat was truly detestable.

Every evening, A held secret meetings to discuss recent developments and issue orders. Such matters required his personal attention.

“East, tell me how our businesses have been doing lately,” A said slowly.

His voice was not loud, but it carried an intimidating force. That was the source of his authority. True authority did not depend on volume; each seemingly calm word still placed enormous pressure on those who heard it.

A man of about thirty standing nearby cleared his throat and said, “Our business has improved considerably compared with before. However, in certain fields, we still haven’t managed to make any breakthroughs.”

He paused and glanced at A. Seeing no change in A’s expression, he finally relaxed a little.

“Go on,” A said.

He had not noticed East’s small gesture. Instead, he sat back comfortably, picked up his wineglass, and slowly savored the fine red wine within.

East smiled faintly. “Although we now control many important sectors in the provincial capital, we have been unable to make any real progress in the property market. The Huang family has a firm hold over that field. They are wealthy, deeply established, and well regarded. If we want to defeat them, we’ll need to plan carefully and proceed step by step.”

“Indeed. We’ll have to strike hard there. As for the Huang family, we need to make a proper plan. After all, I’m rather interested in that great beauty from the Huang family.”

As he spoke, an obscene look spread across A’s face. Whenever he thought of Huang Shan’s alluring figure and beautiful features, a fire burned in his heart.

The others nodded in agreement. Thinking of the Huang family’s beauty, they too wore knowing, lecherous smiles. At that moment, the man on East’s right stepped forward.

“Big Brother, we could cooperate with the Huang Group and drag them into our affairs. Heh heh.”

A gave him an approving glance and smiled faintly. “West, that’s a sound suggestion. We can proceed that way. These plans will take time, though. East, you’ll continue overseeing our business operations. West, you’ll look for suitable opportunities and establish closer ties with the Huang Group. Then we can bring the entire Huang family under our control.”

“Yes!”

The two men immediately grinned. Once the Huang Group fell into their hands, their companies would be able to act without restraint throughout the provincial capital. And if that woman from the Huang family came begging for help and offered herself to them, it would be even more perfect.

At the thought of Huang Shan’s captivating body, flames of desire burned in their eyes.

“South, how are things going with the military? How effective has our infiltration been?”

This was what concerned A most. Money was the foundation they sought, but the military was their true safeguard. Without military support, they would be unable to take even a single step in the future.

“Things are rather difficult at the moment,” South said somewhat dejectedly. “That old fellow has become extremely strict with his subordinates, and he is scrupulously fair in rewarding and punishing them. The man on the far right then stepped forward. He was responsible for managing the underground forces in the provincial capital, with the exception of the Invincible Gang, which A now controlled directly.

“Big Brother, quite a few of our men have gone to the Morning Dragon Club recently to cause trouble, but none of them came away with anything to show for it.”

“That’s right,” East added at once. “Because of the Morning Dragon Club, business at quite a few of our own clubs and bars has been declining without our noticing.”

At first, they had believed that such a small club could never amount to anything. Judging from the current situation, however, it was clearly not so simple.

“The Morning Dragon Club?” A asked. “You mean the small club where the Invincible Gang suffered a setback last time?”

When North nodded, anger flared in A’s heart. That damn little club had actually become so arrogant.

“Can’t you use legitimate channels?” A continued. “We can contact people at the Public Security Bureau and have them inspect the place every night for gambling, drugs, or other illegal activity. And since they operate on a membership system, you can encourage their members to cancel their memberships. Once that happens, let’s see how they manage to keep the club running!”

“Brilliant, Big Brother!”

“Big Brother is truly wise!”

The others immediately showered A with flattery. His abilities were certainly not to be underestimated. Seeing their ingratiating expressions, A glared fiercely at them.

“Could you use your brains a little more in the future? Go and take care of this immediately. Don’t give them time to create more trouble!”

“Yes!”

They had all benefited greatly from A and now needed to go back and discuss the matter carefully. If they divided the work and cooperated properly, they were certain to accomplish something significant. Once that was done, their future would be bright indeed.

After watching his subordinates leave, A sank into thought. He remained lost in contemplation until a ringing telephone jolted him awake.
