Chapter 152: I Will Lose My Way
Hearing Han Jiangxue’s somewhat reckless and unbridled laughter, Su Chen felt a strange sense of unease, as if his peaceful life was about to end now that she had become the manager of his studio.
The laughter didn't last long, however, before hunger and exhaustion took their toll.
*Gurgle, gurgle...*
Su Chen gave her a strange look upon hearing the noises from her stomach. Han Jiangxue flushed red, turning her head away, too embarrassed to meet his eyes. Seeing this, Su Chen picked up an untouched chicken drumstick from the table and offered it to her.
"Want to eat something to tide yourself over? Should I order some more fried chicken for you?"
"Y-you heard wrong," Han Jiangxue retorted stubbornly. "I'm not hungry at all! And who... who would want to eat your leftovers anyway?"
Su Chen just smiled. Not one to force the issue, he picked up the drumstick himself and took a bite. "This drumstick is truly delicious—tender, juicy, and packed with flavor," he remarked while chewing. "The rich aroma hits you with the very first bite, leaving a lingering aftertaste. The skin is fried to a golden crisp that crackles when you bite into it, while the meat is both soft and chewy. It’s a culinary masterpiece."
"Tsk tsk... the way the juices mingle with the roasted aroma is enough to make anyone drool. It’s the kind of addictive snack you just can't stop eating. What a shame some people are missing out," he added, reaching for the last drumstick in the bag. "Huh? Only one left? If you don't want it, I’m going to finish it!"
As he spoke, he feigned a slow, deliberate motion to bring the drumstick to his mouth. Han Jiangxue finally reached her breaking point.
"Ugh, you are so annoying!"
She spun around, snatched the drumstick from his hand, and stuffed it into her mouth. She kept her large eyes locked on him, glaring like a puppy guarding its food. Su Chen chuckled and stood up to head toward the door.
Seeing him move, Han Jiangxue asked instinctively, "Su Chen? Where are you going?"
"Look at you wolfing that down," he replied. "It’s too late to order delivery now, and one drumstick certainly isn't enough for you. I’m going downstairs to get you some proper dinner. You silly girl..."
He walked out, leaving Han Jiangxue alone in the chair. She gnawed the drumstick down to the very last bit of cartilage, leaving nothing but the bare bone. With the bone still in her mouth, she looked toward the door, feeling quite content.
Su Chen returned quickly with dinner. Knowing she was famished, he had picked up a variety of filling dishes, along with a container of porridge. He believed in the wisdom that one should always start with something gentle on the stomach before diving into a full meal.
"Drink the porridge first, then eat," he instructed.
Han Jiangxue, already busy eating with her cheeks puffed out, could only nod in agreement. Watching her, Su Chen felt both a pang of pity and amusement.
"Why didn't you let Xiao Jia handle the Industry and Commerce Bureau?" he asked. "You wouldn't have to be so tired if you let your subordinates do the legwork."
Han Jiangxue swallowed her food with an effort and replied, "That was the plan, but if I’m going to be your manager, I need to understand the process myself. I have to go through it at least once. If someone asks me a question later and I’m clueless, it’ll be a laughingstock for both of us!"
Su Chen nodded. It seemed this "rich girl" was actually quite reliable after all. *Hmm, my previous assumption must have been biased. That wasn't right of me!*
Feeling a bit guilty, he added, "Do you have anything else to do tonight? If not, want to play some games?"
"Games?" Han Jiangxue’s eyes lit up. "Yes, please!"
Su Chen smiled expectantly. "Are you good at PUBG or League of Legends?"
Han Jiangxue’s smile froze. "PUBG... I have motion sickness. I can't play that at all."
Su Chen paused, then waved it off. "No problem, we'll play League of Legends then."
Her smile became even more strained. "As for League... I always get lost."
Su Chen: "???"
"Lost?! There’s a mini-map! How can you get lost looking at a mini-map?"
Han Jiangxue laughed sheepishly. "The terrain is just too complicated—canyons and rivers everywhere. The female character I play is so pretty, I don't want her getting dirty, so I stick to the main paths. But when I do, the turrets attack me, and then my teammates yell at me... so I stopped playing."
Su Chen: "???"
He felt lucky to have asked first. Given her skill level, it wouldn't take much for her to drag his rank from Master down to Silver in a single night. Sighing helplessly, he decided to look for something else. There were plenty of games, after all. He eventually found a cooking game on his computer that was marketed as relaxing and therapeutic: *Overcooked*.
"Hey, this looks fun. Shall we try this?"
Han Jiangxue leaned over, still chewing on her chicken bone. "'Overcooked'? Sounds good! And it says it's a relaxing, stress-relieving game. Let's do it!"
"Deal!"
The two quickly made their decision. Neither of them noticed that on the game's promotional page, the words "relaxing" and "stress-relieving" were enclosed in blood-red quotation marks. Nor did they see the reviews, which were filled with wails of ruined friendships, broken relationships, and vows to never speak to each other again.
Oblivious to it all, the two of them happily began to download the game.
