Chapter 122: We Can Prove It
Amidst the astonished gazes of the crowd, Elder Shen once again requested a visit with Su Chen. Everyone found this quite incomprehensible. While Su Chen’s musical talent seemed almost otherworldly and his singing was enchanting, Elder Shen repeatedly praised his exceptional medical skills. Yet Su Chen was a musician—how could he possibly know anything of medicine? None of them could sense anything extraordinary about that.
To the layman, it looked as though Su Chen had simply drawn a line with a knife across the old man’s chest and inserted a straw to save him. It seemed devoid of any technical merit, and no one could fathom why Elder Shen would shower Su Chen with such lofty acclaim.
However, Su Chen understood well why Elder Shen was so eager to meet him—it was likely because of the bone-touching technique he had used while rescuing the stall owner. In his past life, Su Chen had spent some time learning from a highly respected traditional Chinese medical association, and this technique was on the verge of being lost even then. Judging by the current world, the legacy of this bone-touching method must have vanished entirely.
After some thought, Su Chen picked up the microphone and responded, “Of course, Elder Shen. Whenever you are free, I would be honored to call upon you.”
Elder Shen burst into hearty laughter and replied straightforwardly, “Then let’s make it tomorrow. It’s too late tonight, and after participating in this competition, you must need to rest.”
“I’ll come to your hotel tomorrow afternoon to pick you up, Mr. Su.”
“That’s much too much trouble for you, Elder Shen,” Su Chen replied.
Su Chen agreed to the meeting, wanting to pass on the technique to this respected elder. First, because Elder Shen’s intervention had spared him much explanation, and a favor is owed. Second, Elder Shen’s attitude had been exemplary—he could easily have used the media to pressure Su Chen into giving up the method, but instead, he chose to speak privately, showing great respect. To those who treat him with an inch of kindness, Su Chen would return a yard. Such was his philosophy in life.
Thirdly, if this traditional bone-touching technique could be introduced to this world, it would surely save countless lives—a good deed, and a way to accumulate virtue.
After Su Chen spoke, Elder Shen, aware that the show was still live, wasted no time in idle chatter and hung up the phone.
Once the call ended, the entire venue fell into a brief silence. Those audience members previously manipulated by Zheng Huayu were now seething with anger.
“If it weren’t for Elder Shen’s words, I really would’ve been fooled by Zheng Huayu! How disgusting can he be?”
“Right! What did Su Chen ever do to him? Why does he keep targeting Su Chen like this? And now he’s even stooped to spouting shameless nonsense!”
“Zheng Huayu, with your character, you have no business being a mentor! Get off the mentor’s seat!”
“Yes! Get off, now!”
Watching the crowd’s growing agitation, Zheng Huayu was utterly unaccustomed to such abuse. But his microphone had been cut off by the production team, so no one could hear him clearly.
At that moment, Zheng Huayu felt an unprecedented sense of suffocation. The humiliation nearly drove him mad, and in his rage, he abandoned all celebrity decorum and began roaring from the mentor’s seat!
His voice was so loud that, even without a microphone, it rang clear across the auditorium.
“Shut up! All of you, shut up!”
Zheng Huayu shrieked, “Weren’t you all on my side just now?! How can a couple of words from some damned old man turn you all to Su Chen’s side?!”
“This whole mess started because of him! Saving a life at best was just timely intervention—what’s so great about that?!”
“Who can prove Su Chen couldn’t have communicated better with those four men at the time? Who?!”
He vented his beliefs once more, but this time, no one was willing to listen. The crowd hurled even worse insults at him, frightening the sound technician into hurriedly removing the microphones from the audience area.
On stage, Liu Shao’s expression had grown grim; things had escalated into a serious live broadcast incident. But just as he tried to regain control, Wu Tong’s voice came through his earpiece.
Liu Shao paused in surprise, then looked even more astonished.
“Director...are you serious?” Liu Shao asked again.
Receiving Wu Tong’s definite response, he swallowed and nodded.
He quickly composed himself, and his clear, sonorous voice echoed through the speakers, easily overpowering the arguing voices of Zheng Huayu and the audience.
“Everyone, please remain calm. I’ve just received word that a special group of guests is about to take the stage—let’s give them a warm welcome!”
The audience was puzzled; what guests could possibly appear at a moment like this? Most were still caught up in the commotion and had no mind to applaud.
But just as the two sides were about to resume their shouting match, the special guests emerged from backstage.
In that instant, every jaw in the auditorium nearly dislocated in shock.
Because these were not celebrities as they had imagined, but a group of police officers in uniform!
The lead officer strode onto the stage, saluted the stunned audience and mentors, then accepted the microphone Liu Shao handed him and began to speak.
“Good evening, everyone. I am an officer with the Shashi City Police Department, badge number 7758258.”
“I’m here today specifically to present a banner of honor. Also, we heard Mr. Zheng Huayu’s concerns backstage.”
“His concern was: Why couldn’t Mr. Su Chen communicate properly with the four criminal suspects? Is there anyone who can prove it?”
“My answer is: Yes, we can.”
The officer’s words silenced the entire venue once more, and then a thunderous cheer erupted from the audience!
Amid Zheng Huayu’s darkened expression, the officer spoke with standard formality and gravity: “Based on our department’s investigation over the past two days and statements from the criminal suspects, I can, on behalf of the Shashi City Police Department, responsibly inform everyone—”
“That night, the four suspects were intoxicated, their actions completely uncontrollable, and they exhibited strong violent tendencies.”
“They surrounded Mr. Su, leaving him no escape, and intended to cause harm. Mr. Su was forced to defend himself, acting in legitimate self-defense, thereby preventing what could have become a violent incident.”
“Furthermore, Mr. Su saved the injured barbecue stall owner. These actions clearly demonstrate that Mr. Su is a courageous and righteous pillar of society, willing to stand up to injustice and help the weak!”
As he spoke, the officer accepted a red banner from a fellow officer and continued, “Therefore, the Shashi City Police Department hereby awards this banner of honor to Mr. Su!”
