Chapter 119: Responding to the Call
The more Zheng Huayu spoke, the more convinced he became of his own argument, and so he continued to speak with increasing arrogance.
“So, since the old man was injured because of Su Chen, it should be Su Chen who saves him!”
“Does this prove how great Su Chen is? This is clearly the consequence of his impulsiveness, and he deserves it!”
With his twisted reasoning, Zheng Huayu laid bare his malice toward Su Chen.
He truly didn’t believe that, based on just a song and a video, Su Chen could turn the situation around!
Don’t kid yourself!
Zheng Huayu’s words made the crowd in the audience settle down a little. Though his words were distasteful and his warped worldview was impossible to agree with, he raised one point for which the audience couldn’t immediately find a rebuttal.
All these events began because of Su Chen; if one insisted on tracing the cause and effect, Su Chen could indeed be seen as the origin of everything.
If Su Chen had avoided conflict with the four thugs, perhaps the old man would never have been in danger...
Most people hadn’t realized they were following Zheng Huayu’s train of thought, slowly cornering themselves.
“Hmm... At first glance, what Zheng Huayu says seems to make sense!”
“What sense? The thugs started trouble and surrounded Su Chen—how was he supposed to escape?! Is a decent person supposed to stand there and let bad people bully him? That’s nonsense!”
“That’s not necessarily true. He could have reasoned with the four instead of resorting to violence. I’ve studied a bit of law—if you fight, it’s mutual assault, and Su Chen would definitely be responsible!”
“You might have studied some law, but not enough. In this situation, Su Chen was clearly acting in self-defense!”
“I’m not so sure...”
...
The barrage of comments was diverse, and for a moment, the audience debated whether Su Chen should have fought back. Especially with a mixture of Zheng Huayu's deluded fans and fake accounts stirring up trouble, the discussion quickly escalated into a heated argument.
The good news was that those with clear logic were in the majority; the bad news was that there were still confused viewers trying to play the neutral party.
Zheng Huayu watched the fervent debate among the audience, a slight smile curling on his lips.
This was exactly the situation he wanted!
And Zheng Huayu had no intention of stopping there; he continued to guide the audience.
“Moreover, I have the most important question for contestant Su Chen: Have you studied medicine? Do you have a professional medical license? Are you qualified to perform surgery on the street?”
Zheng Huayu fired off three questions in succession, which stunned the audience.
Right! For such a risky surgery, did Su Chen really have the qualifications?
Faced with Zheng Huayu’s questions, Su Chen shook his head slightly and replied, “No.”
Receiving the clear answer, Zheng Huayu was ecstatic inside! Everything was unfolding just as he had hoped!
Suppressing his inner joy, Zheng Huayu put on a stern, lecturing expression.
“You dare to perform surgery without qualifications? Do you realize how dangerous that is?! If the old man died, you would be the one most responsible!”
After saying this loudly to Su Chen, Zheng Huayu stood up and turned his gaze to the audience.
He spoke earnestly: “Imagine one day you faint from heatstroke or low blood sugar on the street, and a Su Chen comes along, indiscriminately wanting to perform surgery on you—how terrifying is that?!”
“Maybe you’d just need a rest to recover, but under Su Chen’s hands, you might be sent off for good—what then?!”
“Everyone knows the harm of a quack doctor, but isn’t someone practicing medicine without a license even more dangerous?!”
“Besides, no one knows the old man’s exact condition!”
“What gives Su Chen the right to treat people? In my opinion, there’s nothing praiseworthy about him; he’s even an attempted murderer!”
The last few sentences were practically shouted at the audience.
Following the logic that the loudest voice carries the most weight, the audience subconsciously listened to Zheng Huayu.
But once they did, they suddenly realized that, according to his reasoning, Su Chen really did seem to have a big problem!
“No matter what, Su Chen saved the old man. I feel like Zheng Huayu’s words are distorting the facts.”
“But he does have a point. Su Chen performed surgery without a license—if everyone started doing that, it’d be horrifying!”
“What should he have done then? Should Su Chen, knowing how to save the man, just stand by and watch the old man miss the best chance for rescue and die in front of him?”
“Whoa, getting anxious up there? We’re just discussing calmly—how do you know Su Chen had a solution at the time? Are you inside his mind?”
“I also think Zheng Huayu’s argument makes some sense...”
...
With Zheng Huayu’s words, Su Chen found himself plunged into crisis once more.
Meanwhile, in the Shashi Police Department, a few officers working the night shift were eating instant noodles while watching “Tomorrow’s Star.”
Since the events of the previous night, everyone at the station knew what happened in the early hours, and about Su Chen, the upright and promising young man.
So when they learned Su Chen was a celebrity and currently participating in “Tomorrow’s Star” in Shashi, the officers all became very interested in him.
Coincidentally, the show was airing live tonight, and with no calls coming in, those off duty had time to watch the variety show.
“You know, Mr. Su is actually quite handsome!”
“What’s the use of good looks? Working in our field, we’ve seen plenty of wolves in sheep’s clothing. Nowadays, you can’t judge a person by their appearance. Good people like Mr. Su are so few and far between.”
The two policewomen chatted quietly, while the male officers were fired up by the song “Your Answer.”
They joked and laughed, convinced Su Chen would advance, but then they heard Zheng Huayu’s tirade.
The first policewoman couldn’t hold back.
“This Zheng Huayu is awful! He’s deliberately manipulating the audience—this is public PUA!”
“The main thing is, the audience actually seems to be swayed by him. If this continues, Su Chen will be at a disadvantage!”
As they spoke, the officer who had received Su Chen that day suddenly stood up.
“Mr. Su was harassed in our jurisdiction, and we not only failed to help him, but locked him up for a whole night for no reason.”
“Now he’s being slandered because of this incident—we can’t just sit back and watch!”
“Everyone, grab Mr. Su’s commendation banner. We’re heading out!”
