Wen Jin lay in her hospital bed, her face still carrying a sickly pallor.

She seemed not to have heard Sheng Yang’s voice, merely staring at the back of her hand where the IV needle was taped.

Suddenly, she asked, "So even after all this, you still feel I shouldn't go after the Wen family?"

The imposing aura surrounding Sheng Yang instantly tightened.

He narrowed his eyes. "And just what makes you think you can fight the Wen family?"

Wen Jin was an ordinary person with no status or background.

Yet she dared to harbor delusions of contesting the Wen family?

Sheng Yang’s gaze grew increasingly heavy and cold as he looked at Wen Jin. "I've warned you many times not to do things that hurt others without benefiting yourself, but you never listen."

This remark happened to be overheard by Ning Lang, who had just walked in.

He whistled and picked up where Sheng Yang left off: "I'd really love to know what kind of things President Sheng considers to be beneficial to oneself without hurting others—"

Sheng Yang turned his head to see Ning Lang standing at the doorway of the ward.

His tone immediately plummeted. "Who let you in?"

"The door doesn't have a sign saying no entry, does it?"

Ning Lang retorted smoothly instead of answering.

His gaze lingered for a moment on Wen Jin in the hospital bed.

Ning Lang sighed softly. "Is there someone in Beijing who brings you bad luck? Why have you been running to the hospital so often lately?"

Wen Jin didn't reply, but Sheng Yang took over the conversation.

"That must mean you're the one bringing her bad luck. She's only been running to the hospital constantly ever since you came back."

Standing nearby, Chen Jin watched the scene. Although he was thoroughly astonished inside, not a fraction of it showed on his face.

At the company, Sheng Yang always maintained a calm, steady, and decisive demeanor.

Yet for some reason, today in front of Miss Wen, he had been acting so harsh the entire time.

Chen Jin blinked, deciding he should ask Shen Rui in private later if there was something going on that he didn't know about.

Wen Jin was already feeling unwell physically, and with so many people crowding the room, she felt even more stifled.

Without hesitation, she issued a polite eviction notice.

It wasn't until after they had all gone out that Wen Jin lowered her eyelashes, a tumultuous storm of thoughts churning within her.

She could never be like what Sheng Yang suggested—acting as if nothing had ever happened and directly reconciling with the Wen family.

Whether it was the Wen family or Wen You, both had to pay the price for what they had done.

Why should they ever be forgiven?

Qiao Qiao's phone call came through at that moment.

"Babe, why didn't you come back last night? I called you and nobody answered."

"You didn't get kidnapped by the Wen family, did you?"

Wen Jin rubbed the space between her eyebrows. "I'm in the hospital."

When Qiao Qiao arrived, she brought some food with her.

She shook her head continuously as she looked at Wen Jin. "I really think you should go to a temple and kowtow. You've had some terrible luck lately."

Wen Jin closed her eyes. Only with Qiao Qiao around could she truly relax for a little while.

"Beijing might not be the right place for me to stay anymore. The company is urging me back, so I'll probably leave in a couple of days."

"Have you sorted out your household registration yet?"

Wen Jin's return this time was originally for the purpose of transferring her household registration.

Yet it had remained stuck here all along without the slightest progress.

Without Elder Sheng's consent, everything else was entirely useless.

Qiao Qiao offered her an idea: "If all else fails, just go find Sheng Yang. He should agree to it."

What Qiao Qiao didn't say was that, regardless of Sheng Yang's underlying motives, he would inevitably agree to let Wen Jin's registration be transferred out.

If he harbored feelings for Wen Jin, people under the same household registration booklet were barred from marrying.

If he loathed Wen Jin, he would be even less willing to keep her name on the Sheng family's household registry.

Wen Jin didn't want to discuss anything related to the Sheng family anymore.

Qiao Qiao pulled out her phone instead, saying excitedly, "Oh right, Jiang Yuan arrived in Beijing today."

"You seem to like her a lot."

Qiao Qiao nodded. "Well, absolutely. Jiang Yuan is the epitome of a woman among women—her career is thriving, she's heavily involved in charity, and most importantly—"

She blinked at Wen Jin. "Jiang Yuan's classic quote is that men are merely her toys."

"That is practically my ultimate goal!"

Wen Jin's hand resting on the quilt tightened.

Everything Qiao Qiao just mentioned, she already knew.

She also knew that back then, Jiang Yuan had given Wen Jin away precisely to protect her own reputation.

When she was a teenager, Wen Jin had asked her who her biological father was.

Jiang Yuan said she didn't know.

She had too many boyfriends and never bothered to remember anyone's name.

Her current physical collapse was the result of multiple factors, which left Wen Jin with no choice but to be hospitalized.

Sheng Yang had already taken care of her hospital admission procedures.

Qiao Qiao stayed with her for a little longer before leaving.

She had some errands to run in the afternoon and wouldn't be able to come back until evening.

Yet Wen Jin hadn't expected that the person arriving before Qiao Qiao would be Sheng Yang.

Chen Jin followed behind him, carrying a food container.

After setting down the dishes, Chen Jin consciously took his leave.

Only the two of them were left in the hospital ward.

Wen Jin felt a trace of resistance. "Why are you back again?"

Sheng Yang paused. "If I didn't come, who else were you waiting for? Ning Lang?"

Wen Jin lacked physical strength, and her voice was very soft, yet her tone carried an extraordinary sense of alienation.

"Sheng Yang, you were the one who said it—we never had any relation to begin with."

The unspoken implication was that Sheng Yang had no business coming here.

Sheng Yang looked quietly at Wen Jin.

Before him were the dishes Chen Jin had just laid out.

Sheng Yang set down the bowl of porridge he had just picked up. "The premise of having no relation is that you stop causing trouble for me and the Sheng family."

"On one hand, you expect the family to clean up your messes; on the other, you put on a lofty, aloof facade."

Sheng Yang said indifferently, "Wen Jin, you want to have your cake and eat it too."

"The moment my household registration is transferred out of the Sheng family, you won't have to clean up any more messes for me."

Recalling Qiao Qiao's words, Wen Jin reminded Sheng Yang.

This meal was doomed to go uneaten.

Sheng Yang stared at her without a word.

A moment later, he stood up straight, nodding with an air of noble dignity. "Very well, you asked for it."

Then he rose directly to his feet.

His downward gaze fixed on Wen Jin, his long eyelashes casting a faint shadow across the bridge of his nose.

His expression was unclear.

Wen Jin's hand tightened on the quilt.

The oversized hospital gown hung loosely on her frame.

Her lifted face bore no particular expression.

Only those eyes were exceptionally bright, as though they could see right through everything.

She said softly, "Sheng Yang, I'm going back to Guangzhou soon."
