Wen Jin’s shoulder suffered a slight fracture from the impact.

The doctor treated her wound and gave her repeated instructions before finally leaving.

Wen Jin sat in the emergency room, the sharp smell of disinfectant stinging her nostrils.

She stared at the floor, her lips pressed tightly together.

“When you hit her, you weren’t holding back. Why are you regretting it now?” a deep, mocking voice sounded above her.

A pair of long, slender legs came into view.

Wen Jin lifted her eyes and saw Sheng Yang.

His eyelids drooped, a sardonic smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, still exuding that lofty, condescending air.

The emotions in Wen Jin’s heart, which had just begun to calm, surged again at the sight of him.

She mimicked his tone, her voice cold: “If you came here because of Wen You, please leave now.”

She could endure Wen You’s humiliation directed at her, but not the insults aimed at her father.

So she would never regret that slap.

Sheng Yang stared at her for a long moment before saying, “I told you about Wen Chaosheng not to have you come here and bully Wen You.”

Wen Jin’s hand, which had been pressing down on the scar on her ring finger, paused. She looked up and met Sheng Yang’s gaze.

For a brief instant, she wanted to ask him how he could say she was bullying Wen You so casually.

Clearly, it had always been Wen You bullying her.

She had people who threw her backpack down from upstairs, locked her in the equipment room, deliberately torn her homework, and even burned her fingers.

Sheng Yang knew all this.

So how was it that in his eyes now, it was she who was bullying Wen You?

Could all the past be erased just because Wen You was now his fiancée?

A chill ran through Wen Jin’s body; she even found it painful to glance at Sheng Yang.

She could only look away, her voice growing hoarse: “Sheng Yang, you and Wen You really are a perfect match.”

The same hypocrisy.

The same scoundrels.

The bandages wrapped around her shoulder were still there, her coat slipped off, exposing pale, flawless skin.

Her slender, vulnerable neck bent low, looking like a fragile little creature that could be crushed with a casual pinch.

The darkness in Sheng Yang’s eyes deepened as he spoke calmly, “Don’t act pitiful in front of me. I only saw you as the one who struck first.”

“So no matter the consequences, you must bear them alone.”

It was like a final verdict, yet Wen Jin no longer had the strength to argue.

Her shoulder throbbed with pain, sapping her voice.

Sheng Yang glanced at her again and sneered, “It’s rare to see someone so reckless as to bring this upon themselves.”

He turned to leave but stopped just before stepping out of the emergency room.

He cast a sidelong glance at Wen Jin, his expression shadowed and ambiguous: “I don’t care what your reasons were for hitting her, but whether as a member of the Sheng family or a client of New Moon—”

“I want you to apologize to Wen You. Otherwise—”

He paused, “You will regret it.”

A clear threat, but Wen Jin showed no reaction.

—

By the time Qiao Qiao arrived, Wen Jin had come back to herself.

Looking at the CT scans she had taken, Qiao Qiao cursed furiously, “This is intentional injury! We can sue him. It’s utterly outrageous!”

Wen Jin held her back, shaking her head. “I hit Wen You too.”

“You should have slapped her a long time ago!”

Wen Jin forced a smile. “I think so too.”

But the smile didn’t reach her eyes, tinged instead with exhaustion.

Qiao Qiao’s heart ached for her and helped her up. “Sweetheart, let’s go home. I’ll think of something about Uncle Wen’s matter. Let’s not get entangled with them anymore, okay?”

Wen Jin said nothing.

She knew well that because she hit Wen You today, her father’s situation would only become more complicated.

She guessed correctly. As soon as Qiao Qiao brought her home, the Qiao family’s parents called.

Though Qiao Qiao didn’t let her hear what was said, Wen Jin could guess from her grim expression what had happened.

Sure enough.

Qiao Qiao said coldly, “The Sheng family suddenly wants to cancel one of our collaborations, using a fabricated excuse to cut off the funding.”

Wen Jin whispered, “Sorry.”

—

Sheng Yang had said if she didn’t apologize to Wen You, she would regret it.

Qiao Qiao scoffed, trying to comfort her, “What does it matter to you? It’s just Sheng Yang bullying people with his power. Don’t worry, it’s not a big deal.”

But although Qiao Qiao said this, Wen Jin felt no relief.

She could not afford to trouble Qiao Qiao.

She had to think of other ways herself.

—

“I heard Wen Jin actually hit Wen You?” At the bar, Zhao Yimo held a wine glass, asking casually.

Sheng Yang glanced at him, tacitly acknowledging it.

Zhao Yimo immediately perked up and gossiped, “Wen Jin’s bold now! Ning Lang said she used to run away like a mouse from a cat whenever she saw Wen You.”

Not many knew about the conflict between Wen You and Wen Jin.

Sheng Yang clearly didn’t want to continue the topic.

His expression darkened; anyone who saw him would know he was in a bad mood.

Zhao Yimo wisely changed the subject: “By the way, I heard Ning Lang is back.”

Sheng Yang raised his eyelids slightly.

Zhao Yimo sighed, “You and Ning Lang were the best of friends back then. How did you suddenly fall out?”

His words stopped abruptly as he looked at the girl beside him and fell silent.

After a moment, he couldn’t help but ask again, “But I heard Wen Jin is looking everywhere for help with her dad’s situation. Are you really going to stand by and do nothing?”

The chill on Sheng Yang’s face deepened.

He narrowed his eyes and asked back, “Do you think I should help her?”

“Isn’t it because you still have some interest in her, afraid she’ll really run off?”

Sheng Yang’s face showed no emotion as he replied, “She will still have to come back and beg me.”

He did not deny the first part of Zhao Yimo’s statement.
