Sheng Yang always assumed that Wen Jin was desperate to cling to the Sheng family.

Yet, to Wen Jin, what did the Sheng family even have? Her mother died within the Sheng household, and her father was arrested there as well. She had lost both her parents and her home in that place, yet Sheng Yang still believed she cherished it.

Wen Jin wanted to leave more than anything else in the world.

Sitting in the car, watching the buildings recede rapidly outside the window, Wen Jin gripped her palms tightly. Her nails dug deep into her skin. She had wondered where Sheng Yang was taking her, only to find they had stopped at Wenshan Villa. Wenshan Villa was a private club, and Zhao Yimo was the host for the day.

Wen Jin followed Sheng Yang out of the car. Recalling what Ning Lang had said, she managed to calm herself somewhat. However, no sooner had she stepped inside than she saw Wen You and Zhao Yimo.

Seeing her arrive, Wen You’s expression was the first to turn cold. She sneered at Zhao Yimo, "You didn't tell me she would be coming too."

Zhao Yimo glanced at Sheng Yang, seemingly understanding his intentions, and smiled in explanation, "Today is a good day. Sheng Yang brought her over, surely to apologize to you."

Wen You frowned, but when she looked at Sheng Yang, her expression softened. She bit her lip and said, "Sheng Yang, I don't mean to be angry at you, but I simply cannot stand Wen Jin's temper."

Zhao Yimo shot a disdainful glance at Wen Jin and curried favor with Wen You, "Don't worry. Everyone here today is on your side. Do you really think you’d let an outsider like her bully you?"

Wen Jin did not know why she made Wen You feel so insecure, but as she lifted her gaze, she saw Ning Lang walking toward them. Lowering her eyelashes, she decided she wanted to resolve matters quickly and leave this place once and for all. She stepped forward to head toward Ning Lang, but Zhao Yimo reached out an arm to block her path.

Tilting his head, he looked at her with heavy sarcasm, "What are you doing? Who told you that you could leave? Have you apologized to Wen You yet?"

Wen Jin remained impassive. "I am here to see someone."

Zhao Yimo clicked his tongue against his cheek. "Can you stop pretending for one day? Who here would you possibly be looking for—"

Before he could finish his sentence, another voice cut in. "She is here to see me."

Ning Lang stood not far away, a faint smile on his face as he watched them. Zhao Yimo frowned and instinctively looked back at Sheng Yang.

Ning Lang had already walked over to Wen Jin. He leaned down slightly, meeting her gaze. "You said you were coming on your own; I didn't expect you to be with Sheng Yang."

Wen Jin was somewhat resistant to his sudden closeness and stepped back to maintain a safe distance. Ning Lang raised an eyebrow, showing no reaction. He smiled, "Alright, come with me."

Knowing he likely had news regarding her father, Wen Jin nodded. She was about to move toward him when her wrist was suddenly seized. Sheng Yang's voice, icy and detached, rang out beside her: "I wasn't aware you and Ning Lang had become so close."

Ning Lang answered before she could. "We practically grew up together; you could call us childhood sweethearts. Why wouldn't we be close?"

This was pure nonsense. Others might not know, but Sheng Yang knew better than anyone that Wen Jin had almost never had any contact with Ning Lang. He curled his lips and looked down at Wen Jin. "Is that so?"

His tone was questioning, yet carried a powerful sense of oppression. Wen Jin did not want to waste time. She replied bluntly, "It’s not as if I need to report everything I do to you, is it?"

This single sentence caused Sheng Yang's expression to darken instantly. Laughing with cold rage, he gripped Wen Jin's hand tightly. "Don't forget why I brought you here. You still haven't resolved the matter with Wen You."

She did not know how much strength he was using, but her wrist ached. She looked up into Sheng Yang's frost-cold gaze and said, clearly and firmly, "I have already said: not unless Wen You apologizes to my family first."

The atmosphere turned stagnant. Wen Jin could clearly feel that Sheng Yang was even more furious. In the past, this might have worried or hurt her, but now, her primary emotion was irritation.

She was far more anxious to deal with the situation concerning Wen Chaosheng. Sensing the fleeting annoyance in her eyes, Sheng Yang's brow furrowed even deeper.

Wen Jin was truly agitated. Just as she was thinking of ways to shake off Sheng Yang, another hand, with well-defined knuckles, covered her wrist. Unlike the sterile scent that clung to Sheng Yang, Ning Lang carried a warm, floral fragrance that washed over her.

Holding her wrist, he spoke calmly, "Sheng Yang, Wen You is still right here. No matter how much you care for little Wen Jin, don't neglect your fiancée."

Sheng Yang narrowed his eyes, repeating the words "little Wen Jin" under his breath. Ning Lang, entirely unfazed by the overly intimate nature of the address, reminded him, "Although little Wen Jin has lived with the Sheng family all these years, you aren't actually siblings. There is a distinction between men and women."

These few light words made the already stiff atmosphere grow even more silent. Everyone present knew exactly what the relationship between Wen Jin and Sheng Yang was. The phrase "distinction between men and women" was truly inappropriate for them.

Wen Jin realized this, pulled her wrist away, and looked at Sheng Yang. She reminded him, word for word, "Ning Lang is right. There is a distinction between men and women. Please let go, Mr. Sheng."

Sheng Yang’s presence was already that of an impending storm, but Ning Lang acted as if he didn't notice. With a deft movement, he pulled Wen Jin’s hand free from Sheng Yang's grip.

He then reminded Wen Jin in a joking tone, "Little Wen Jin, don't ever date someone like Sheng Yang in the future. He has absolutely no sense of personal boundaries."

Zhao Yimo choked on his drink at these words. It took him a while to recover, his face flushed red as he asked Ning Lang, "Ning Lang, do you... do you not know the relationship between Wen Jin and Sheng Yang?"

Ning Lang raised an eyebrow and looked at Wen Jin. "What is your relationship with Sheng Yang?"

The ball was thrown right back into Wen Jin's court. Sensing Sheng Yang's predatory, soul-devouring gaze fixed upon her, Wen Jin averted her eyes and replied calmly:

"We have no relationship at all."
