Chapter 14: As for Wen Jin, he did not care.

Before Wen Jin could even speak, Sheng Yang had already passed judgment on her. However, Wen Jin quickly regained her composure. Tonight was evidently an important day for Wen You, so it was no wonder Sheng Yang had personally come to find her. He was probably worried she might say something to the media. After all, given Sheng Yang’s usual nature, he rarely paid any attention to Wen Jin. Just like before, whenever she needed Sheng Yang, he preferred to keep their relationship hidden from the public. So more often than not, Wen Jin would wait outside until Sheng Yang was done with his own affairs before he would come to see her.
Wen Jin glanced subtly toward the direction of the Cultural and Sports Center. It wasn’t that he didn’t know someone was waiting outside; it was a matter of whether that person was worth his attention. For instance, now, worried that Wen Jin might cause trouble for Wen You, he was even willing to personally come out and take Wen Jin away.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Wen Jin watched the neon lights recede and held the lighting adjustment plan that Wen You had requested. Sheng Yang hadn’t driven far; he stopped once they were at a safe distance from the Cultural and Sports Center. Wen Jin handed him the plan. “Since you’re so worried that I might bring negative publicity to Wen You, could you please deliver these documents to her? The lighting and some details have already been revised according to her preferences.”
Sheng Yang didn’t take it. He glanced at Wen Jin and said in an ambiguous tone, “You’re quite attentive when it comes to work.” It seemed he had completely forgotten that it was he who had insisted Wen Jin be involved in planning their wedding.
Wen Jin’s expression remained unchanged. “Of course, one must be attentive to work.”
Lately, they rarely had moments without arguments. The previous intimacy between them had turned into distance and coldness. Sheng Yang could sense Wen Jin’s deliberate demeanor; he sneered, a flicker of emotion passing through his handsome eyes that Wen Jin couldn’t decipher. Then, he said lightly, “I heard you went to see Wen Chaoshen today.”
Wen Jin’s body stiffened slightly. “Yes.”
“Did you explain things clearly to him?”
There was no need to say what needed explaining. Wen Jin replied, “There’s nothing to explain. You and I never really had any relationship to begin with.” Besides, her father had made it clear that no matter what, she should stay away from Sheng Yang.
Wen Jin had always been an obedient daughter. She had taken Wen Chaoshen’s words to heart.

Once she left Jing City, she and Sheng Yang would be completely unrelated.
Sheng Yang looked at her profile, vaguely sensing the emotional turmoil within her. But he didn’t care, assuming she was upset simply because Wen Chaoshen was mentioned.
He was about to say more when Zhao Yimo’s call came through. Sheng Yang answered; Wen Jin didn’t hear their conversation. After hanging up, he turned to her. “There’s been an issue with Wen You.”
The implication was clear — Wen Jin could leave now.
Since she hadn’t come looking for him in the first place, Wen Jin responded with a soft “uh-huh,” picked up the documents, and reached for the car door.
But Sheng Yang’s voice stopped her again. “Wen Jin.”
She glanced back.
The car interior was dark, lit only by the streetlights outside, but she could clearly make out Sheng Yang’s silhouette.
He said, “Behave yourself and don’t provoke Wen You. I can make sure Wen Chaoshen’s schedule won’t be delayed.”
A strange thing to say.
When had she ever provoked Wen You?
But that probably didn’t matter. Sheng Yang now only wanted to back Wen You.
Right and wrong were irrelevant.
What mattered was that Wen You must not be bullied.
As for Wen Jin, he didn’t care.
Obviously, she wouldn’t see Wen You tonight. Wen Jin could only go home.
Unexpectedly, as she reached the apartment complex entrance, she ran into the landlord.
The landlord looked surprised. “Why are you back? Didn’t you move out?”
Wen Jin was baffled. “When did I move out?”
“This morning. Someone came to return your apartment, and the moving company took all your stuff away.”
“Well, not really—” The landlord glanced toward the trash bin. “They didn’t take it all. They threw some stuff there, said it was useless junk.”
Wen Jin’s heart jolted. She followed the landlord’s gaze.
Sure enough, beside the garbage heap, she saw some familiar items.
On top lay the little dog plush Sheng Yang had given her.

Wen Jin closed her eyes, feeling a wave of dizziness sweep over her.
Seeing this, the landlord didn’t linger and quickly left.
Apparently, the person who came in the morning had paid well and provided some documents, so the landlord couldn’t interfere further.
Wen Jin stood there for a while until the dizziness subsided, then stumbled toward the garbage heap.
Unconcerned about dirt, she began rummaging through it.
At the very bottom, she found a small cookie tin.
Her trembling hands opened it.
Seeing the photos inside were intact, she finally felt some relief.
It was the only family photo she had kept—a picture of the three of them at their happiest.
Yet someone had treated it like trash and thrown it into the garbage.
No need to guess who.
Sheng Yang.
He always had cruel ways to force Wen Jin to comply with his wishes.
Sure enough, her phone chimed with a new message.
Wen Jin opened it to see a message from Sheng Yang: just two words—“Plum Garden.”
She held the cookie tin and slowly stood up.
Passing by the little dog plush, now looking especially bedraggled from its time in the trash, she paused and locked eyes with it for a moment before finally picking it up.
After all, it had been with her for so many years; she couldn’t bear to part with it.
As for Plum Garden, she would not go there.
Wen Jin gathered her belongings and, under the light drizzle, slowly headed away.
In the exact opposite direction from Plum Garden.
