Inside the seventh bar’s private room.

Zhao Yimo glanced sideways at Sheng Yang, clicking his tongue in disbelief. “Skipping Wen You’s celebration banquet and dragging me to hide out here—what’s that about?”

Sheng Yang’s expression remained unchanged. “She has to accompany those seniors tonight.”

“You know she has to be with the seniors, and with so many media around, if her fiancé isn’t present, who knows what rumors will spread.”

Sheng Yang seemed not to hear him, idly staring at his phone as if waiting for a message.

Sure enough, a notification sounded.

He lowered his gaze, and the previously casual look on his face instantly turned cold and rigid.

His eyes narrowed slightly, lips tightening so much the temperature around him seemed to drop to freezing.

Zhao Yimo felt puzzled. “What’s wrong with you?”

Sheng Yang said nothing, standing up and walking straight out of the private room.

Outside, Wen Jin stood at the street corner under a light drizzle, facing off against the person before her.

The assistant sighed and pleaded, “Miss Wen, please don’t make things difficult for me.”

Originally, Mr. Sheng had instructed him to take Wen Jin to the Mei Garden, but he had failed to do so, which had earned him a severe scolding from General Manager Sheng.

If he couldn’t bring her back today, he probably would have to pack up and leave.

Wen Jin remained unmoved.

She didn’t understand Sheng Yang’s true intentions, but she could not go to Mei Garden.

Otherwise, not only would leaving Jing City become problematic, but she would also be dragged into the entanglements between Wen You and Sheng Yang.

She was unwilling to endure that.

Especially after seeing her father, Wen Jin had a clearer understanding of what she truly wanted.

The assistant, seeing her unyielding stance, was at a loss but dared not let her leave.

He blocked her path on the roadside. “Miss Wen, General Manager Sheng will be here soon. Please wait a little longer.”

Almost as soon as he finished speaking, a bright light shone toward them.

Instinctively, Wen Jin raised her hand to shield her eyes and caught a glimpse of a tall, upright figure stepping out of a car.

Sheng Yang’s gaze was chilling as he strode directly toward them.

But when he stopped in front of Wen Jin, he didn’t utter a word.

He reached out and grabbed her wrist without a trace of gentleness, pulling her toward his car.

His grip was strong; Wen Jin’s wrist hurt badly, and she couldn’t help but cry out, “Sheng Yang, you’re hurting me—”

Yet Sheng Yang seemed not to hear. He shoved her into the passenger seat and then leaned against the car door, looking down at her.

“I told you I have little patience. Maybe I’ve been too gentle with you all this time, and it gave you the wrong idea?”

Against the light, his pale eyes were coated with the heavy darkness of night, carrying a bone-chilling coldness.

Wen Jin was stunned by the sharpness of his gaze.

She could tell that Sheng Yang was very angry.

Before she could react, the car door slammed shut in front of her, shaking the entire vehicle.

Sheng Yang remained silent throughout the drive.

He hated the feeling of Wen Jin trying to escape his control.

In his subconscious, he assumed she would always obey him obediently, letting him manage and arrange everything.

So her rebellious attitude now irritated him immensely.

Who did she think she was? How dare she—

She was merely someone temporarily residing in the Sheng family. Without him, where else could she go?

Ungrateful and increasingly difficult.

The car sped toward Mei Garden, running several red lights along the way.

The intense sensation of weightlessness forced Wen Jin to clutch the seatbelt tightly.

Only when Sheng Yang finally vented his anger did he pull over.

Wen Jin’s face had lost all color. She whispered, “Sheng Yang, are you crazy?”

His tone was extremely calm, as if the reckless driver from before was someone else entirely. “Wen Jin, don’t try to test my limits. I don’t like disobedient pets.”

Recalling the near accidents made her heart race even more fiercely.

She couldn’t even show any extra expression, only gripping the seatbelt tighter.

Sheng Yang glanced sideways at her, seemingly pleased by the fear in her eyes.

He paused, then said, “The place you rented is too shabby. I can’t accept it. From now on, you’ll live at Mei Garden.”

He casually claimed Wen Jin’s rented house as part of his domain.

As if Wen Jin had rented it just for him.

Wen Jin lifted her lashes, her eyes misted with either nervousness or fear, giving her a pitiful appearance.

She said, “I can find another place, but I won’t go to Mei Garden.”

“Why not?”

Wen Jin pursed her lips, turning her face aside to reveal a delicate, clean profile. “I’m not qualified to enter Mei Garden. Sheng Yang, if anyone should be brought there, it’s Wen You, not me.”

Everyone knew what Mei Garden meant to the Sheng family.

Wen Jin never dreamed she could ever enter Mei Garden, let alone be brought there by Sheng Yang under such circumstances.

Sheng Yang caught her thoughts and scoffed, “What, are you reminding me that you should enter as the Lady of Mei Garden?”

He stepped on the gas slowly, saying, “You’ll be disappointed. There can be many ladies of Mei Garden, but you’ll never be one of them.”

Wen Jin pressed her lips tightly and, after a moment, said nonchalantly, “I have no interest in that.”

Sheng Yang said no more, only speaking after they arrived at Mei Garden.

“Forgot to tell you, Wen You is here too.”

Wen Jin looked at him.

He curled his lips into a cruel smile. “You think I brought you to Mei Garden to keep you hidden away like a treasure?”

“You said you wanted to discuss wedding details with Wen You. She’s been staying here recently for work. You can take care of her.”

Only then did Wen Jin realize Sheng Yang was assigning her the role of caretaker for Wen You.

Before she could refuse, Sheng Yang continued, “Besides, given the family hierarchy, calling Wen You ‘sister-in-law’ isn’t inappropriate. The Sheng family has taken care of you all these years; now it’s your turn to care for Wen You. There’s nothing unreasonable about that.”

When the old master of the Sheng family brought Wen Jin home, he did mention she should regard Sheng Yang’s siblings as family.

Moreover, Sheng Yang invoked the Sheng family’s kindness.

Wen Jin closed her eyes briefly, then nodded. “You’re right. I do owe the Sheng family.”

After all, no one had ever treated her unfairly during her years with the Sheng family.

In that regard, she indeed owed them.

Only by repaying that debt could she leave cleanly and without lingering obligations.

But once inside Mei Garden, Wen Jin understood why Sheng Yang had brought her here.

Wen You was drunk.

She was curled up on the sofa, wearing only a camisole. Upon seeing Sheng Yang, she instinctively reached out.

“Sheng Yang, I don’t feel well.”

Sheng Yang’s deep voice comforted her, “Rest for a while, and you’ll be fine.”

He then turned to Wen Jin, signaling her with his eyes to assist.

These pampered young masters and ladies often shared one flaw: obsessive cleanliness.

Sheng Yang not only had this but was also terrible at taking care of others.

Wen Jin comforted herself, thinking this was the only way she could repay the Sheng family.

She put down her things and went over to support Wen You.

However, Wen You slapped her hand away.

Luckily, Wen Jin dodged in time, though her chin was grazed by Wen You’s fingertips, leaving a sharp sting.

That showed how much force Wen You had used.

Yet Wen You seemed unaware and picked up a cup of water from nearby, splashing it at Wen Jin in displeasure.

“Who told you to touch me? You’re filthy.”

Wen Jin stared at Wen You for a moment, then saw a fleeting look of triumph in her eyes and instantly understood.

She turned to Sheng Yang, “Bringing me here might have been a mistake.”

Sheng Yang frowned more deeply. “If I’m here, Miss Wen probably won’t sober up anytime soon.”

His displeasure was clear. “I asked you to take care of her, not to sow discord.”
