Chapter 125: Efficient Service
Yun Zui stared at Grand Preceptor Xikong, speechless. When did he become so fond of being mysterious?
"Fine, I won't press you. But I was clearly lying in a coffin, and now?" As she spoke, Yun Zui glanced at her surroundings—an endless expanse of rooftops.
"I apprenticed under a master in this ancient land who possessed magical arts, and I learned a thing or two myself. I used spatial displacement to bring you here," Grand Preceptor Xikong said, arching his brows with a smug expression.
Yun Zui’s eyes lit up immediately. "Can you teach me?"
Grand Preceptor Xikong gave her a stern look and replied, "I swore a solemn oath to my master never to pass these arts on to outsiders."
Yun Zui rolled her eyes at him. "Do magical arts actually exist in this world?"
Why had she never heard of them? Was she too ignorant, or was her understanding of this ancient era still not thorough enough?
Grand Preceptor Xikong glanced at her and answered, "No. In the entire world, only my master and I possess these arts." He spoke with absolute confidence; he was certain that he and his master were the only ones. In truth, his master was not human—he was a celestial being in flowing white robes, a former demon who had ascended to immortality.
Yun Zui felt a wave of disappointment; she was quite interested in something as advanced as magic.
But if she couldn't learn it, so be it. It was fortunate enough that both she and her grandfather had been reborn. That thought felt wonderful.
Yun Zui threw herself into Grand Preceptor Xikong’s arms and said, "Grandfather, I missed you so much. It’s so good that we’ve been reunited." She nestled into his embrace like a cat, and Grand Preceptor Xikong hugged her back with paternal affection.
The sky was pitch black, the stars blinked incessantly, and the night was calm and still.
After a reluctant farewell to Grand Preceptor Xikong, Yun Zui returned to her newly purchased estate. From a distance, she could see the gates illuminated, as if lighting the way for her. Xiao Tianming was truly a thoughtful child.
Initially, after being captured by Ling Yuan’s men, she had been filled with anxiety, but meeting her grandfather again after their life-and-death separation had instantly lifted her spirits. This joy was even greater than the relief of surviving her ordeal and being reborn.
Humming a tune as she walked, she entered the estate and arrived at the first courtyard, where she saw Xiao Tianming pacing back and forth, looking quite anxious.
Yun Zui raised an eyebrow. Could he be worried about her?
"Ahem." Yun Zui gave a feigned cough.
Xiao Tianming’s attention was immediately drawn to her. He rushed forward and said, "Master, you’ve finally returned! You had me worried sick."
After purchasing the slaves at the auction, he had gone to look for Yun Zui but couldn't find her anywhere. He assumed she had returned to the estate first, but she wasn't there either. In his eyes, Yun Zui was an independent and unique woman, so he had felt entirely at ease, believing she was capable of protecting herself. He had spent his time dismissing the old servants and settling in the ten new slaves. But when she still hadn't returned, he began organizing the account books, and as the night grew dark, his pacing turned into genuine worry.
Now that she was back, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
Yun Zui was dressed in a long, silver gown. The fabric was so light and sheer that she looked like a fairy drifting through the mist.
