It was truly beyond imagination.

"But your subordinate cares," Yun Zui said immediately.

It was as if these words from Yun Zui disappointed Ling Yuan. He released her hand, and his attitude shifted drastically. "Leave!"

His voice was cold.

Yun Zui was stunned. How could a person be so wildly inconsistent? One moment he was tender enough to drown you, and the next, he was so icy it sent a chill through your bones.

"Yes." All in all, Yun Zui felt a sense of relief.

However, she couldn't help but feel suspicious. Why did Ling Yuan get angry when she mentioned that she cared about appearance? Could it be that one half of Ling Yuan's face was breathtakingly beautiful, while the other was hideously ugly?

With this doubt in her heart, Yun Zui retreated silently.

Once she reached the grand hall, she let out a long breath. Thankfully, she hadn't been discovered. Her back and palms were damp with a thin layer of cold sweat.

Just as she stepped outside, she saw two people gesturing to her from a shadowed corner.

Yun Zui recognized the two figures; they were the very same ones who had attempted to assassinate her.

Walking over slowly, she asked, "What is it?"

Although her current identity placed her on the same side as them, she clearly remembered that she held a grudge against them.

"Why did the Hall Master keep you behind?"

The entire Lingyou Hall knew that Ling Yuan disliked people getting close to him; he maintained a ten-meter distance from everyone. Yet, Yun Zui had been granted the rare honor of being allowed so close to him during her very first summons.

"Gossip," she replied coldly, already wanting to leave. She had only wanted to see what an ancient organization of dark assassins looked like. Now that she had seen it, this was no place to linger. It was time to go back.

The two men looked embarrassed. They had worked on a mission together with Yun Zui, but only she had received such preferential treatment, and they felt unbalanced.

"We just want to know why you are receiving special treatment from the Hall Master. You aren't planning to claim all the credit for yourself, are you?"

Beyond their cold, ruthless nature, assassins had their own selfish desires. They were not people who enjoyed being short-changed.

Hearing this, Yun Zui stopped. A flash of light crossed her eyes, and an idea immediately took shape.

If people didn't court disaster, they wouldn't suffer. Since they were so intent on seeking death, she would gladly oblige.

Yun Zui hid the cunning smile in her eyes and said, "Actually, I might as well tell you: the Hall Master discovered the scent of blood on me..."

The two were clearly shocked and immediately asked, "Then why are you still alive?"

Yun Zui feigned a look of hesitation. Although her mask hid her expression, the way she furrowed her brows made it clear to the assassins that she was struggling.

"I think the Hall Master doesn't dislike the smell of blood at all; rather, he gets excited when he catches the scent. He summoned me because he smelled blood, sniffed me, and only let me go once he was satisfied." Yun Zui spoke vividly, even using hand gestures to emphasize her point.

She was making it all up, but it was highly effective.

The two men looked at her, half-believing.

"If the Hall Master truly hated the smell of blood, would I still be here talking to you? Believe it or not, that's the truth." Yun Zui stopped mid-sentence, then scoffed, "My wound is hurting quite suddenly; I need to go tend to it."

With that, she hurried away down another path.

The two assassins were left with a burgeoning urge to douse themselves in the scent of blood.

Yun Zui, meanwhile, sneered internally. Let them soak themselves in blood; Ling Yuan would surely hack them to pieces! She was quite ruthless when it came to using someone else’s blade to kill.

Ha!
