Chapter 121: Going to a Certain Place
Ling Yuan was firmly convinced that he had not mistaken her for someone else! However, Yun Zui’s next sentence caused his hopes to crumble completely.
"You speak of fifteen years ago, but everyone knows that I, Yun Zui, the fifth daughter of the Prime Minister, am only sixteen now. A year ago, when I was fifteen, I was already sent as a funerary consort for the late Emperor! Furthermore, if that person fifteen years ago was truly me, I would have only been one year old. Could a one-year-old save someone?!"
Fifteen years ago, the little goddess in Ling Yuan’s heart had already been a nine-year-old girl; she would be at least twenty-four by now. But Yun Zui was only just sixteen—an eight-year gap!
Ling Yuan’s face turned deathly pale. Suddenly, his shimmering, water-like eyes narrowed. He reached out, seized Yun Zui by the throat, and demanded in a cold, furious voice, "Then why are you impersonating her!"
Yun Zui was utterly speechless. How could she possibly be impersonating anyone? It was clearly he who had mistaken her for someone else!
Her neck was gripped so tightly by Ling Yuan that she could not draw a single breath. Her face flushed a deep red, and as she began to lose consciousness, Ling Yuan abruptly released her. His emotions had been far too volatile. He had been the one to mistake her initially, but anyone who learned this secret had to die.
"Come." Ling Yuan’s expression shifted once more. He extended a hand, pale as jade, waiting for her to take it.
Once Yun Zui could breathe again, she began to cough violently. She glared at Ling Yuan with intense fury; never, since she had entered the mercenary world, had she been bullied like this. Yet, she was completely powerless to resist; she was simply too weak. This feeling was suffocating!
Yun Zui looked at Ling Yuan’s hand. Even though it was beautiful, she had the urge to take a blade and hack it to pieces.
Seeing that Yun Zui was unwilling to place her hand in his, Ling Yuan softened his tone, his voice turning enchantingly seductive. "You little thing, you are so mischievous; you must be lying. You are her. Besides, you clearly knew that I despise the scent of blood, yet you let those two assassins come to see me stained with it. Your intention was to make me punish them. I have already ground them into pulp; what more could you be dissatisfied with?"
Yun Zui stared at Ling Yuan in shock. It was not because he had done as she wished despite knowing it was a deliberate act, but because his bloodthirstiness was so completely at odds with his elegant appearance.
"Come, I will take you somewhere." Ling Yuan’s voice turned incredibly gentle, as if he were a completely different person from the one who had just lashed out.
Yun Zui knew that her life was currently in his hands, so after a brief moment of hesitation, she placed her hand in his.
Ling Yuan smiled with satisfaction. Both of them were dressed in gauzy, silver garments; one was strikingly handsome, the other breathtakingly beautiful. As they walked hand in hand, the surrounding veils fluttered about them. The room featured a circular bed carved with lotus flowers and luxurious steps made of mutton-fat jade.
They walked barefoot across the smooth floor, their reflections cast upon the ground, making them look like a perfect, ethereal pair. It was a beauty so surreal it felt like an illusion.
Yun Zui did not know where Ling Yuan was taking her, but she followed him nonetheless. Within this vast, grand hall, although the space was empty, the four walls were carved with lifelike patterns of all kinds. Massive pillars, thick enough for two people to wrap their arms around, stood within the hall, making it appear even more grand and majestic. The space was vast and carried a faint chill.
Stopping before one of the walls, Ling Yuan reached out and pressed upon a protruding carving.
