-008- Two King Carps
[Beep-boop]
[Congratulations, Host, for completing the task of hatching a spirit. You are awarded ten thousand points.]
[Since you have successfully hatched two spirits, you are awarded an additional twenty thousand points.]
What?
Hearing the system’s notification, Tong Si was once again bewildered.
He understood that there would be rewards for completing tasks. But even hatching eggs came with rewards?
So far, Tong Si knew three ways to earn points: completing tasks issued by the system, winning spirit battles, and successfully hatching spirit eggs.
If it weren’t for the fact that a Rapid Incubation Ticket cost fifty thousand points, Tong Si would have considered hatching eggs endlessly to rack up points.
He opened the data panel and saw that his balance had already reached a hundred thousand points.
Through the data panel, Tong Si got a general idea of the specifics regarding the two Magikarp.
Magikarp #1
Level: 1
Gender: Male
Ability: Swift Swim
Potential: Ordinary
Move: Splash
…
Magikarp #2
Level: 1
Gender: Male
Ability: Timid
Potential: Ordinary
Move: Splash
…
“What a pity!”
Tong Si rested his chin on his hand, unable to help feeling regretful.
Of all things, both Magikarp had to be the same gender.
If they were different, perhaps one day he could find a Magikarp egg by the pond.
Tong Si, along with Elekid and Eevee, watched the two Magikarp perform Splash for around half an hour.
They looked tireless, as if competing to see whose Splash was superior.
“Bui!”
Eevee couldn’t take it anymore and reached out its paw, scratching at the two Magikarp furiously.
Though it hadn’t learned Fury Swipes, its imitation was quite convincing.
After being scratched by Eevee, both Magikarp lost their ability to battle.
Tong Si noticed on the data panel that Eevee’s level had actually risen to four.
An unexpected surprise.
He had been worrying about how to raise Eevee’s low level, and now these two Magikarp had provided ample experience.
Though it wasn’t much, every little bit counts.
Not only that, after Eevee was done, Tong Si discovered several red scales on the ground.
Magikarp shed their scales periodically, growing new ones in their place.
Fish breeders who raise Magikarp do so primarily for these scales.
Though they didn’t seem useful at first glance, they could be sold to apothecaries, ground into medicinal powder, and fetched a good price.
They could even be steeped in tea for their nourishing effects on the body’s organs, though the taste was a bit fishy.
Tong Si picked up the red scales and returned the two Magikarp to the pond.
“If you shed your scales a few more times, I’ll have recouped the cost of these eggs!” he mused, already calculating how to maximize his returns.
The two Magikarp hadn’t yet realized the gravity of their situation.
Were they merely Eevee’s experience machines and Tong Si’s cash cows?
“Bui~”
Eevee, tired from playing, just wanted to sleep.
Seeing its muddy and slightly fishy paws, Tong Si couldn’t help but take it for a bath.
After settling Eevee in, he noticed Elekid was already training in the yard.
Tong Si couldn’t resist walking over.
“Elekid, how’s your new move, Charge?”
“Beep beep!”
Elekid immediately demonstrated its Charge move for Tong Si.
A spark of electricity flared.
Tong Si realized Elekid’s control over electricity far exceeded his expectations.
“Beep beep!”
Elekid went straight to a nearby outlet, gently pressing its palm against it.
The electrical energy from the breeding house was absorbed by Elekid.
Tong Si knew that most Electric-type spirits loved to “eat” electricity.
Although he usually fed Elekid specialized spirit food, Elekid would occasionally draw power directly from the outlets in the breeding house.
Tong Si was aware of this and didn’t stop Elekid.
As Elekid absorbed energy and released electricity after charging, its entire body conducted the current. In the next moment, a bolt of lightning struck down.
Boom!
A scorched patch appeared on the ground in the yard.
“Karu karu!”
“Karu karu…”
The two Magikarp trembled in the water while splashing, terrified.
They hadn’t expected that, despite Elekid’s mild appearance, its electrical attacks were so deadly!
“Elekid, how did you release such a powerful bolt of lightning?”
Tong Si’s data panel showed that Elekid only knew four moves: Quick Attack, Thundershock, Charge, and Volt Switch…
But the electricity it just released far surpassed a normal Thundershock.
Yet, it wasn’t Volt Switch, either.
The thunder just now was more like the move Thunder.
But for an ordinary Elekid to learn Thunder, it would need to be at least level forty-eight.
“Beep beep!”
Elekid couldn’t explain to Tong Si, but it seemed to have an innate ability to absorb electrical energy.
This reminded Tong Si of Elekid's earlier battle with Mareep.
Mareep’s Static had clearly been triggered, but Elekid absorbed the electromagnetic force in a blink, making its subsequent Quick Attack faster and more powerful.
“Elekid, you can absorb and release electrical energy?”
Tong Si came to a conclusion.
Most Electric-types absorb electricity from outlets just to satisfy their hunger.
But Elekid could not only absorb energy—it could also release it at will.
“Beep beep!”
This time, Elekid nodded firmly. It truly could absorb and then discharge electricity.
“My goodness!”
Tong Si discovered yet another unique trait on this Elekid.
Not only could it multitask and use two moves at once in battle, it could also absorb and release electricity?
A question arose: how long could Elekid store the absorbed energy?
If it could store it for a long time, then by absorbing plenty of energy before a battle and releasing it during combat, it could instantly defeat foes much stronger than itself.
“Elekid, how long can you store the energy you absorb?”
Tong Si asked.
“Beep beep…”
Elekid scratched the antennae on its head with its arm, not seeming to know the answer.
“Let’s give it a try!”
Tong Si suddenly remembered that there was a Spirit Battle Club in Jiahua City.
He could rent a private room there and let Elekid absorb as much energy as it wanted!
Early the next morning, Tong Si took Elekid to the Spirit Battle Club.
As for JOJO Breeding House, it was, of course, closed.
With only two or three days left before the college entrance exam, business in all the shops was extremely slow.
Eevee was nestled in Tong Si’s arms, still half-asleep.
It was Tong Si’s first time visiting the city center of Jiahua.
Usually, he stayed around the eastern suburbs.
“I never expected the city center of Jiahua to be so bustling,” he thought.
From the original owner’s memories, Tong Si knew that Jiahua City was located in Linhai Province—not considered a major metropolis.
But judging by the current scene, development was going quite well.
