Chapter 91: The Second Imprisonment by the Sickly Beauty
“I—I can’t let anyone take you away!”
Watching Wen Wan approach step by step with iron chains and handcuffs in her hands, her trembling voice was half fear, half madness in her eyes.
Chen Luo already understood—Wen Wan was having another episode.
Although Wen Wan’s emotions had seemed stable lately, and she appeared quite normal, her condition hadn’t truly improved much.
“Damn it, how is this illness supposed to be cured? How much longer will it take?”
Chen Luo was anxious and guilt-ridden; he had thought his recent efforts had kept Wen Wan’s illness under control.
He hadn’t expected that Yelena’s arrival and declaration of war would become the greatest trigger, rendering everything he’d done so far utterly inadequate.
No, he had to calm Wen Wan’s emotions first.
“Wan’er, you need to—”
Before he could finish, Wen Wan lunged at Chen Luo. Instinctively, he sidestepped, retreating several steps toward the wall.
“Why are you dodging? You’re not allowed to dodge!”
Having missed her mark, Wen Wan’s face darkened in anger, and she rushed at Chen Luo again.
“Bang!”
“Not good!”
After hurriedly retreating, Chen Luo found himself cornered. He wanted to move, but a long, slender black stocking-clad leg pressed against his waist.
“I told you, no running! You belong to me!”
Wen Wan’s domineering voice rang out as her hands gripped Chen Luo’s shoulders. Slowly, she parted her seductive red lips and bit fiercely into his shoulder.
“Mm!”
The pain made Chen Luo groan softly. He fought the urge to push Wen Wan away, not only out of concern for her getting hurt but also not wanting to aggravate her emotions.
Wen Wan released him. Taking advantage of his distraction from the pain, she cuffed his wrists together.
“Clatter!”
She gave a sudden tug, and Chen Luo stumbled, crashing onto the bed.
The mattress was unusually soft and springy; his body bounced twice upon landing.
Before he could react, the chain rattled again.
“Clatter, clatter.”
The slow, intertwining sound of chains echoed as Wen Wan wound them around the headboard, restricting Chen Luo’s upper body movement.
“No, Wan’er, calm down, listen to me—”
“Hu! Hu!”
Heavy breaths issued from Wen Wan’s lips and nose, her eyes bloodshot, her whole being seeming to have lost all reason.
Such emotional volatility hadn’t surfaced since Wen Xiu had kidnapped Chen Luo—the fear of losing him had worsened her condition then.
Now, it was Yelena's threat to steal Chen Luo away.
Logically, Liu Hua, Zhou Mei, Tang Xiwei had all tried to take Chen Luo, but Wen Wan hadn’t been this afraid.
Ultimately, it was a matter of strength.
Those three women posed no real competition for Wen Wan; in beauty, family background, ability—Wen Wan outclassed them by miles. If she wanted, she could easily crush them.
But Yelena was different. She was a formidable rival, her equal in every way.
In beauty and ability, they matched; in family power, the Ye family even surpassed Wen Wan’s clan.
It was rumored that Yelena’s father would soon ascend to a terrifying position, making the Ye family even more formidable.
And now Yelena had set her sights on Chen Luo.
Wen Wan was confident in Chen Luo’s feelings for her—failure in love seemed almost impossible.
Yet, if Yelena put everything on the line to win him, Wen Wan could very well lose him.
Desire breeds motivation, loss breeds fury.
Under the extreme fear and anger of losing Chen Luo, Wen Wan’s rationality faded.
Her only thought now was to hide Chen Luo, lock him by her side, never let him out of her sight.
With reason gone, instinct took over.
Extreme fear demanded extreme release.
Ignoring Chen Luo’s words, Wen Wan, having trapped him, grabbed his shirt hem with both hands and suddenly pulled.
“Rip!”
The T-shirt tore open, exposing Chen Luo’s muscular chest and abs.
Wen Wan bent down and bit his chest again, but this time with less force, leaving only a shallow mark.
The sensation left Chen Luo shivering, the unfamiliar feeling battering at his composure.
No! He couldn’t let Wen Wan vent in this way—it wouldn’t ease her condition, and might even leave psychological scars.
“Wan’er!”
Chen Luo shouted. His free legs clamped around Wen Wan’s waist, and with a forceful twist, he flipped them over on the bed.
The length of the chain allowed enough room for a rotation; the chain twisted together.
Their positions reversed entirely, Chen Luo now pressed Wen Wan beneath him.
At his shout, Wen Wan regained her senses; the madness in her eyes faded, replaced by tears swirling in her gaze.
She reached out, gently touching the bite mark on his shoulder; tears slid from the corner of her eyes.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry—I was just so afraid.”
Wen Wan wrapped her arms around Chen Luo, burying her face in his chest, soaking it with tears.
“I was so terrified, so scared that Yelena would take you away.
I—I’m not absolutely certain I can beat her. Even if there’s only a one-in-ten-thousand chance of losing you, I can’t accept it.”
Hearing Wen Wan’s words, Chen Luo felt a pang in his heart. He wanted to hug her, but the chain restrained him.
“Wan’er, no one can take me away. No one can steal me from your side.”
“It’s alright, it’s alright.”
“So what if it’s Yelena and the Ye family? I’ll fight with you! When husband and wife are united, nothing can stand in their way!”
“If we really can’t win, we’ll run away together, fugitives on the run, buried together in the end! Let Yelena go to hell!”
Chen Luo’s comforting words gradually soothed Wen Wan, her ragged breathing slowing to calm.
He wasn’t in a rush; softly, he consoled her by her ear, until Wen Wan was completely serene.
She slowly lifted her head, gazing at his handsome face and reassuring smile.
“My darling, thank you.”
Chen Luo smiled brightly, rubbing his chin against hers.
“Why are we being so formal? Come on, unlock the chain so I can hold you properly.”
A mischievous smile crept onto Wen Wan’s face.
“Hah!”
She cried out playfully, pressing Chen Luo beneath her once more.
“Huh? Weren’t you calm now?”
“Yes, which is why I must thank you properly.”
Wen Wan kissed Chen Luo’s lips, then his neck, his collarbone, his chest, his abs.
“Ah! You little temptress!”
Wasn’t this post-dinner exercise a little too exciting?
