Chapter 147: This isn't a sister-in-law, this is our own mother!
"Alright, alright, let's go. It's time to eat."
Chen Luo opened the door and ushered the three of them out, introducing them to Wen Wan one by one.
"Wan'er, let me introduce you: Liu Hao, Xiao Lian, and Lin Xiang. My brothers—brothers I’d go through hell and high water for."
"Nice to meet you all. I'm Chen Luo's girlfriend, Wen Wan."
Hearing Chen Luo introduce her so openly to his college roommates, a wave of genuine happiness washed over her. It wasn't just about declaring her status as his girlfriend to the outside world; it was a quintessential part of the college romance experience. Whenever someone had a partner, they would bring them to meet their roommates—partly to show off, and partly to seek their blessing.
This was something Wen Wan had never experienced during her own college years. Between the educational environment at the time and the immense pressure from her family, she had never dated, nor had she formed any deep bonds with classmates or friends.
"Since Chen Luo calls you brothers, you're family now. From here on out, consider your exams and your future employment taken care of by me."
With that single sentence, the three of them were completely won over by Wen Wan.
*Holy crap!*
If the department head herself says that, which teacher would dare fail us? We could practically breeze through the next four years with a green light all the way!
And she even promised to handle their employment!
Doesn't that mean the moment we graduate, we can walk straight into a major corporation? With our sister-in-law as the company president, we’ll own the place! This isn't just a sister-in-law; this is a godsend!
"Thank you, sister-in-law! Long live, sister-in-law!" The three of them looked like they were about to bow down to her on the spot.
"Alright, let's go eat. I’ve booked a table at a private kitchen; let’s go try something fresh."
Wen Wan naturally linked her arm with Chen Luo’s, and they began to walk slowly downstairs. The three roommates followed behind, looking on with pure envy.
As they walked, Chen Luo turned his head to describe the personalities of his friends to Wen Wan.
"Liu Hao is a bit careless, but he has good logical thinking and a lot of potential for public speaking."
"Xiao Lian has a great talent for real-time strategy when gaming; he stays very calm under pressure."
"Lin Xiang can be a bit lazy, but once he’s given a serious task, his execution is incredibly strong."
Wen Wan listened intently, already forming a mental assessment of their abilities and temperaments. Even if they had no extraordinary talents, just for the sake of Chen Luo’s "brothers I'd go through hell and high water for," she was determined to cultivate them properly.
Even if they were as hopeless as A Dou, she would unconditionally provide for them with high positions and generous salaries. Whatever Chen Luo wanted to do, she would faithfully carry out. Her lord's word was her command; she would follow him with joy and never regret it until her dying day.
Meanwhile, trailing behind them, Liu Hao and the others had heard every word of the conversation. After exchanging glances, their hearts warmed. They hadn't actually known Chen Luo for very long, and their bond wasn't particularly deep yet.
Yet, here was Chen Luo, sparing no effort to praise their strengths and potential in front of Wen Wan—a department head and a corporate president. The intention was clear: he wanted Wen Wan to accept them and pave the way for their future careers.
In their view, Chen Luo didn't have to do this. There's an old saying: you can share trials, but not necessarily wealth. If this annoyed Wen Wan, it could have been detrimental to Chen Luo. After all, inserting "connections" into a company is often subject to criticism.
But Chen Luo did it anyway, and he did it with such sincerity. The corners of their eyes grew moist. To have a brother like this—it was worth it. If they ever joined his company, they would give their all to shoulder his burdens!
They walked for a while until Wen Wan’s private car arrived, taking them to a private restaurant. It was one of the many dining chains under Wen Wan’s banner, famous for its Sichuan cuisine and well-known throughout Hangzhou.
The restaurant was always bustling, and the private rooms were notoriously difficult to book. Under Wen Wan’s lead, the group entered a private room.
Once they were seated and the dishes were served, Wen Wan was the first to raise her glass.
"Come, I’ll toast you all. Thank you for taking such good care of our Chen Luo."
The three of them scrambled to stand up, raising their glasses with profound respect. "You're too kind, sister-in-law. Chen Luo has taken plenty of care of us, too."
"Alright, alright, we're family now, no need for such formalities. Everyone just relax. I'll go first."
She tilted her head back and drained the glass in one go, and the three of them followed suit. Privately, they all gave Wen Wan a mental thumbs-up. Her grace and open-mindedness were billions of times better than that "green tea" girl, Tang Xiwei, whom Chen Luo used to like!
"Alright, come on. It’s been so long since I’ve had a proper drink with you guys. Today, we’re going to drink to our heart's content."
Looking at the three of them, Chen Luo felt the brotherhood he hadn't cherished enough in his past life returning. He let go of his usual composure and became more carefree.
"I’m not going home tonight unless I drink all three of you under the table!"
He grabbed Liu Hao and started shaking the dice.
"Three fours!"
"Four sixes!"
"I challenge you! I don't have any of those—drink up!"
Chen Luo was acting wild, and the other three were worried that Wen Wan might get angry. To their surprise, not only was she not upset, she kept pouring drinks for Chen Luo and wiping the sweat from his brow, showing no sign of displeasure.
The three of them felt a deep sense of envy once more!
This girlfriend was truly a treasure; not only was she rich and beautiful, but she was also so considerate. It was a rare find indeed.
The meal lasted for three full hours. Chen Luo was half-drunk, and the other three were in a similar state. Wen Wan had her people take them back to their dormitory while she supported Chen Luo out of the restaurant.
Chen Luo smelled of alcohol, but Wen Wan showed no sign of disgust, using a wet wipe to gently dab the sweat from his face. Suddenly, Chen Luo wrapped an arm around her waist, a smile on his face. He was clearly quite drunk now, beginning to ramble.
"Wan'er, are you satisfied with the first phase of this campus romance?"
"Satisfied, very satisfied," Wen Wan said with a sweet smile, looking at the big boy who was so rarely this unrestrained.
"Do you know what the essential final step of a campus romance night is?"
"I don't know, what is it?"
Chen Luo raised a finger and pointed toward a hotel ahead.
"It’s going to a hotel, of course! Let's go! Let's get a room!"
