Chapter 064: Eyes on the Head, Hands on the Belly

Isn’t this exactly the kind of person my grandfather warned me to stay away from before he passed away?

But Uncle Li gave me no chance to think. He snapped his fingers.

The red fiend’s figure dissolved into a swirl of greenish smoke and vanished.

As I looked around, that blood-red, grinning face suddenly appeared just inches from mine.

At such close range, I could make out every detail of its face.

“Heh heh heh…” The red fiend cackled eerily, tilting its head back before suddenly slamming its forehead toward mine.

“Damn!” I had no idea it would attack me like this.

I twisted aside instantly, and its head crashed heavily into a stone pillar with a muffled thud.

A large dent appeared in the pillar where it struck.

My eyes widened. Thank goodness I reacted quickly!

The red fiend tried to lift its head, but I seized the moment, pressing my hand—the one with the drawn incantation—against the back of its skull.

“By the command of the law—Begone, evil!”

The struggling fiend suddenly went limp at my words. Its arms dropped to its sides, and where my palm touched the back of its head, a wisp of greenish smoke curled up.

Had I just defeated the red fiend? Was it really that easy? Did I strike its weak spot by accident?

For the first time, I started to doubt my own abilities.

But that doubt was quickly justified.

Just as the fiend grew quiet, it suddenly let out that same eerie, cackling laugh.

The next instant, though I still had its head pinned, it lifted its hands and cupped its own cheeks.

Then, with a sickening crack, it removed its head.

The head, still wearing its hat, stayed pinned under my hand against the pillar, but the body stepped aside.

Black smoke billowed from its neck, and when it cleared, a new head had grown in its place!

The head I'd been holding turned into smoke and drifted away.

The fiend’s actions shattered everything I thought I knew about ghosts—especially since the white fiend still hadn’t moved.

The red fiend twisted its new head from side to side, then lurched toward me, arms raised.

Its movements were simple, but every blow carried the force of a giant boulder—one wrong move and I’d be smashed to death. Nothing I did to it seemed to have any effect at all.

While dodging the red fiend, I glanced past the white fiend and fixed my gaze on Uncle Li.

My grandfather once said that although the red and white fiends were ferocious, they weren’t invincible. If I was powerful enough, I could disperse them both directly.

If I couldn’t, there was another way: break the spell by opening a wound at the caster’s brow and releasing the yin energy he used to control them. The fiends would then fall apart on their own.

Clenching my fists, I made up my mind. I kicked the red fiend hard in the chest.

It didn’t retreat—instead, it shoved me away with such force that I was sent flying. Exactly what I wanted.

Using the red fiend’s momentum, I vaulted over the white fiend’s head and threw a punch at Uncle Li’s face.

But just as my blow was about to land, my fist froze in midair—I couldn’t move it at all.

A cold chill shot through me. At some point, a silver needle had pierced my wrist.

Uncle Li stood across from me, grinning coldly, as if I were already a morsel of meat about to be devoured.

Smack!

A pale, bony hand fell on my shoulder. I turned to find the white fiend, face twisted in a funeral grimace.

Unlike the red fiend, the instant I met its gaze, my heart turned to ice. Looking at its deathly features, I found I had no will to resist.

I stood rooted to the spot, letting the white fiend grab my clothes and lift me into the air.

With a sudden burst of strength, it hurled me to the ground. By sheer bad luck, I landed right on a stone, jamming it into my still-healing back, the pain making me bare my teeth.

I tried to stand, but Uncle Li stomped on my stomach. He bent over, cocked his head, and sneered at me. “He Chuan really deserved to die—he couldn’t even handle someone as weak as you, and ended up caught?”

Uncle Li shook his head. “I misjudged him, sure, but you’re even more detestable!”

As soon as he finished, he kicked me hard in the waist.

The force of it sent me flying, aggravating my already injured back.

I crashed into the stone pillar where He Chuan was tied.

I opened my mouth to cry out, but no sound came out at all.

This time, Uncle Li didn’t bother to walk over. He just waved a hand. The white fiend stepped back to his side, while the red fiend, still grinning, advanced toward me.

Gritting my teeth against the pain, I pushed myself up. This time, the red fiend didn’t attack directly as before.

It stopped three meters away and slowly removed its hat.

I saw that its entire head was covered in eyes. I was stunned—I had never seen anything so grotesque.

While I stood there in shock, the red fiend suddenly tore open its suit, revealing a mass of arms sprouting from its belly.

Withered, shriveled hands clawed wildly at the air, and all the eyes on its head suddenly fixed their gaze on me.

The red fiend’s twisted smile vanished. It stretched out its arms toward me, and the countless hands growing from its belly moved as if on command, reaching for me all at once!
