Chapter 130: No Need for Regret
“It’s alright, let’s eat first.” Xia Yu composed himself. Although he felt some guilt, he could accept this outcome.
He was not an utterly wicked man, but neither was he merciful.
Moreover, what Lin Yuxin had done to him was unforgivable, so no matter how tragic her situation, Xia Yu would not pity her.
“What are you talking about? I can’t even eat; I don’t have your big heart.” Lin Yuqing tidied up and said, “Brother Yu, how can you still not realize how serious this is?”
“The child Lin Yuxin was carrying was treasured by both her family and the Liang family. Now that she has miscarried, they will surely blame you.”
“Even though you are now the CEO of Yinghao, protected by President Xiao, if the Liang family really wants revenge, they will go all out.”
“Do you think President Xiao would risk war with the entire Liang family just for you?”
Xia Yu remained calm.
“Yuqing, you really don’t need to worry about me.”
“You… sigh, never mind. I’ll go check on the situation. You should be careful and go out less these days.”
Lin Yuqing sighed, worry etched on her face, and hurried to the hospital.
Although she knew it would be difficult to save Xia Yu this time, she could not remain indifferent.
Xia Yu exhaled deeply. Though he did not care much, his mood was nonetheless heavy.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a message. Seeing it was from Zhao Sijie, he froze.
‘Why didn’t she just call if there was something wrong? Why send a message?’
He smiled faintly, opened it, and his expression stiffened abruptly.
His face grew pale and grim. The message was lengthy.
“Brother Yu, I’m sorry I don’t have the courage to say these things to you face to face, so I can only say goodbye this way.”
“When you see this letter, I will have already left Deep City with my mother.”
“The few days of vacation brought me much happiness; I believe it was the same for you. At least it gave our relationship a perfect ending.”
“Yes, let’s end it, Brother Yu. I’m tired. Truly tired.”
“Maybe you see it but don’t understand why I feel so weary?”
“Brother Yu, I’m just an ordinary person. I envy those women who live freely and splendidly every day, who can buy whatever they want because they have money and men who spoil them endlessly.”
“But being with you for so long, all I got were ridicule and disdain. I often doubted our future and felt as if I already knew the answer.”
“We are both unfortunate souls—powerless, penniless ordinary people. So being together is bound to be hard and exhausting.”
“That’s why I can’t hold on anymore. I love you, but being together only drags us down, so I think it’s better to let go.”
“You’re now the CEO. Perhaps you have a promising future, so I should let go. I don’t want to wait anymore.”
“Maybe I should be like other women and find a mature, wealthy man, so my mother and I can live well.”
“I know this sounds harsh, but reality is like this. So I’m sorry. Please don’t look for me.”
“I will go to a city where you can’t find me and start a new life. Don’t worry—I will be fine, and I hope you will be too.”
After reading the last line, Xia Yu trembled all over, unable to believe Zhao Sijie had sent this to him. His hands shook uncontrollably.
After several minutes, he suddenly got up and ran outside.
“No, this can’t be. Sijie must be joking with me.”
“Is she crazy? How could she say such nonsense!”
Xia Yu drove with reddened eyes, speeding straight to Zhao Sijie’s apartment.
He pounded forcefully on the door, calling, “Sijie… Sijie…”
The door opened, and Xia Yu was briefly hopeful, but when he saw it was the landlord, his heart sank.
“Landlady, why are you here? Where’s Sijie?”
The landlady, a woman in her fifties, replied, “Xia Yu, don’t you know Sijie has moved out?”
“She moved out a few days ago. Just this afternoon, actually. I came to clean.”
“No, that’s impossible!”
Xia Yu rushed inside and saw that apart from the original furniture, all of their belongings were gone.
He had to accept this sudden, cruel truth.
She had arranged to move out days ago, but they had been on vacation then, which meant her departure was premeditated.
With bloodshot eyes, Xia Yu leaned against his car and lit a cigarette.
“Why, Sijie? Why?”
“Did I misjudge you?”
“Am I just a poor woman who couldn’t make you happy?”
He took out his phone and read the message over and over again.
The more he read, the deeper the pain, like being pierced by needles.
He had fallen in love with Zhao Sijie, but she left him like this, delivering a crushing blow.
“Damn!”
He kicked the car fiercely and roared, “Money, money, it’s all about money!”
“Is money really that important? Why didn’t you just tell me what you wanted?”
“Have I ever treated you badly?!”
The more Xia Yu thought, the colder his heart grew, mingled with resentment and anger.
“First Lin Yuxin abandoned him, and now even Zhao Sijie, whom he trusted, has left.”
He had no beautiful memories or foundation with Lin Yuxin, but with Zhao Sijie, they had truly fallen in love, so the blow and anger were doubled.
“Zhao Sijie, you really have guts.”
“You want to find a rich man? Let’s see who’s richer than me!”
Though heartbroken, Xia Yu was more angry than sorrowful, his mind sharp.
“Fine, since you left me, I don’t deserve to keep you!”
Xia Yu headed straight to a bar. On the way, he called Xiao Jun.
Half an hour later, the two sat in a lively bar, and Xia Yu downed several shots of strong liquor.
“Tell me, where did I treat her badly? Why did she leave?!”
Xiao Jun smiled wryly and said, “Zero, do you really want me to say?”
“Say it, don’t beat around the bush!” Xia Yu shot him a sharp glance.
Xiao Jun immediately grew serious.
“Every breakup has problems on both sides, so I don’t think you can blame Miss Zhao entirely.”
“Especially since she has suffered so much. She probably wants a better life more than anyone.”
“And you made her see no future. No matter how passionate love is, it cools eventually. Once that happens, people start to reconsider everything.”
“Maybe you couldn’t give her the future she wanted, so naturally, she wanted to let go.”
“There’s a saying she said that’s true: if being together only drags each other down, it’s a tragedy.”
“You shouldn’t have let her see the shadow of tragedy. You clearly have the ability.”
Hearing this, Xia Yu was stunned, thoughtful, and drank two more shots.
Xiao Jun continued, “Of course, it’s not all your fault. Miss Zhao must have her own problems.”
“At least it proves she’s not the girl you imagined. She couldn’t escape worldly concerns and sought an easier path for a better life.”
“So, don’t feel too regretful.”
