Zhao Sijie laughed and scolded him before turning to walk back.

But in her heart, she now knew the truth. He really was the eldest son of the Xia family.

“Goodbye, Brother Yu.”

“This should count as the best kind of farewell, shouldn’t it? At least we’ve given each other beautiful memories.”

Xia Yu watched her retreating figure, unaware that her eyes were already red from crying.

He lowered his head and smiled, assuming he had misheard her. He gave it no further thought and turned to leave.

Three o’clock that afternoon.

Zhao Sijie met Third Brother again.

“Miss Zhao, have you made up your mind?” Third Brother asked with a faint smile in an elegant private room at the teahouse.

“I agree to leave Brother Yu.”

“But I need money as well. My mother is ill.”

Third Brother paused, then said, “Of course. I never go back on my word. I prepared a check for ten million long ago.”

He took out the check and placed it in front of Zhao Sijie.

“But think carefully. Once you accept this check, you can never see Xia Yu again for the rest of your life.”

“And if you break your word, I’m not trying to frighten you—you and your mother will pay a terrible price.”

Tears glimmered in Zhao Sijie’s eyes as she stared at the check, both hands trembling uncontrollably.

It hurt. It hurt terribly.

But when she thought of her mother’s condition, she gritted her teeth and picked up the check.

“I know.”

With that, she rose and left.

“Xia Yu, what are you doing here?!” Lin Yuxin demanded angrily in surprise.

Xia Yu looked at her and said softly, “Relax. I’m not here to see you.”

“This is the Lin Group. Who gave you permission to come in? Get out.”

Naturally, Lin Yuxin was furious at seeing him on her family’s turf.

Xia Yu stepped forward. “Yuxin, your belly is already this big. Why are you still coming to work?”

“Looks like being Mrs. Liang isn’t as wonderful as you imagined.”

“I remember you once said that after becoming Mrs. Liang, you would be the most esteemed person in the Lin family. But reality doesn’t seem to be that way, does it?”

“I’m here to see Yuqing. It has nothing to do with you, and I don’t need your permission, do I?”

With that, Xia Yu walked past her and continued toward Lin Yuqing’s office.

Xia Yu said innocently, “I didn’t hit her. She grabbed me first. I merely shook my hand away lightly. Who knew her foot would slip and she’d fall?”

He had barely finished explaining when an employee pointed at Lin Yuxin’s leg and cried out in panic, “Blood... Sister Yuxin, you’re bleeding!”

Everyone hurriedly looked over and saw blood spreading down Lin Yuxin’s leg.

“I...”

Lin Yuxin’s face went deathly pale with fright. Fortunately, someone was supporting her.

“What are you waiting for? Get her to the hospital!”

Lin Yuqing had appeared at some point.

Only then did everyone react. In a panic, they helped Lin Yuxin leave.

Before departing, the Lin family members pointed angrily at Xia Yu and threatened to fight him to the death if anything happened to Lin Yuxin.

Lin Yuqing finally broke and burst out laughing.

There was no denying that Xia Yu’s coming twice to explain himself had made her feel better. At least she knew that she still held a certain place in his heart.

At the same time, she despised herself for forgiving him so quickly.

The two of them went to a restaurant, and just after they ordered, Lin Yuqing’s phone rang.

“Hello...”

“What?!”

Her expression suddenly turned grim.

After hanging up, Xia Yu frowned. “What happened? Is something wrong?”
