Xia Yu put down his glass, frowning as he looked at Chen Fei’s haughty expression. Her words were not only full of humiliation directed at him but also disparaging towards the working class as a whole.

On the battlefield of life, Xia Yu had faced countless harsh realities. He wouldn’t claim to be a paragon of justice, yet her remark angered him enough to retaliate. “Oh, so being a driver is a lowly job?”

“And what about you? What do you do?”

“Heh, I’m the assistant to the vice president, with an annual salary of three hundred thousand. Don’t I have the right to say that?” Chen Fei said proudly, lifting the corners of her mouth.

“This is the first time I’ve heard being a secretary is a high-ranking job,” Xia Yu chuckled lightly. “Isn’t there a saying in the workplace? When there’s work, the secretary does it; when there’s no work, she just sits around.”

“Hmm, it’s definitely busy and prestigious,” she retorted.

“What did you say?!”

That phrase was the last thing anyone working as a secretary wanted to hear, as the position often attracted rumors and gossip. Moreover, Chen Fei’s confidence was anything but clean—she had secured her position through unsavory means. Hearing it out loud almost made her slam the table in anger.

“Heh, that’s what others say. Why are you so worked up?” Xia Yu smirked, “Could it be I hit a sore spot?”

“You...”

“Alright, alright,” Li Shen quickly intervened, “What’s Xia Yu saying? Don’t quarrel with the ladies. We men should be magnanimous.”

“Yeah, Fei Fei, don’t be upset. We’re all friends here,” Lulu chimed in soothingly.

Chen Fei calmed herself and feigned magnanimity. “I’m not angry. Getting mad at a loser is just ridiculous.”

“Losers always act like that—sour grapes because they can’t get what they want. He’s clearly just jealous, no wonder he’s single and can’t find a girlfriend.”

Xia Yu smiled silently, unwilling to waste breath on her.

Seeing this, Chen Fei grew quietly annoyed but pressed on. “Lulu, Chen Fei here isn’t unkind. Tonight’s drinks aren’t wasted.”

“I’ve got an invitation to a joint banquet hosted by Golden Sea Group and Hero Group. I can bring a few people along—count yourselves in.”

“Oh my, Fei Fei, that’s incredible! You actually got an invite to their banquet?”

“No wonder the company values you so much,” Lulu said excitedly. Golden Sea Group was one of the top fifteen companies in Deep City, and Hero Group was even more prestigious—the foremost family enterprise of the Xiao family.

The two had recently partnered and were hosting a banquet to celebrate. Rumor had it many companies desired to attend but lacked the status or connections to get an invitation.

No one expected Chen Fei to have such a ticket and to be able to bring them along. Naturally, they were thrilled.

Even Li Shen was astonished, repeatedly giving Chen Fei a thumbs-up and calling her impressive.

Chen Fei’s sudden announcement was meant to elevate herself and simultaneously belittle Xia Yu, showing him the gap between them.

A poor guy who drives for a living dares to speak so arrogantly?

With a triumphant smile, she taunted Xia Yu, “Hey, little driver, if you want to apologize properly for what you said earlier, I might consider taking you with us.”

“Many company bosses want in but never get the chance. Only respected and influential people attend.”

“Maybe, if you’re lucky, you could meet a few important figures—opportunities that could change your life.”

She was sure that a loser like Xia Yu would immediately apologize and beg her without hesitation upon hearing such an opportunity.

Yet Xia Yu merely scoffed with disdain. “Oh, I’ve never been interested in such banquets.”

“Besides, if I really wanted to go, there are plenty of invitations waiting for me.”

“Pfft...”

Chen Fei burst out laughing.

Li Shen was at a loss, thinking Xia Yu must have been brainwashed by his family’s housing situation, having forgotten how to socialize.

You can’t boast like that! When you needed to brag, you said you were just a driver. Now you’re puffing yourself up—who would believe that?

Li Shen felt exhausted—his teammate was dragging him down.

“I say, you’re really funny. Who do you think you are, just a driver?” Chen Fei sneered. “Talking big like that, aren’t you afraid you’ll trip over your own tongue? I bet the security guard would kick you out before you even step inside.”

“And as for plenty of invitations, today’s losers really have no shame. They just blurt out lies without a second thought.”

“Oh, you don’t believe me? How about we make a bet?” Xia Yu smiled slyly.

“Heh, you think I’m scared? What’s the bet?” Chen Fei scoffed, thinking he was just saving face.

“Aren’t you going too? If I manage to get in that day, you call me ‘daddy’—how’s that?”

“Deal! But if I don’t see you there, you have to kneel and call me ‘auntie.’ Damn.”

Chen Fei cursed under her breath in anger. This poor guy had no skills except bragging.

“Alright, it’s a deal,” Xia Yu nodded.

Li Shen wanted to say something but stopped himself, feeling Xia Yu was in a tough spot and unsure how to help.

After the commotion, no one felt like drinking anymore, so they dispersed without another word.

Outside the bar, Li Shen whispered, “Go reflect on yourself. Tonight, I’m going to win over Lulu. We’ll grab some late-night food alone.”

“Don’t blame me. The chance was yours; you just didn’t make use of it.”

Xia Yu rolled his eyes silently and told him to scram.

He headed straight to his car, only to find several young women leaning against it, taking selfies.

Unlocking the door with his keys, he said, “Hey ladies, done taking pictures yet?”

The girls noticed him, their eyes lighting up. “Hey handsome, is this your Alphard?”

“So cool! It’s the first time I’ve seen someone come to a bar in such a luxury ride. Can we add you on WeChat?”

“Yeah, handsome, take us for a spin! We’ve never been in such a nice car before.”

Dressed provocatively and freshly out of the bar, the girls were clearly used to having fun and kept batting their eyelashes at Xia Yu.

From a short distance, Chen Fei and Li Shen stopped dead in their tracks, staring blankly at Xia Yu...
