Zhang Jialong turned to Chu Zitong and Chu Bin with a knowing smile. “I was right, wasn’t I? You came here today hoping to take the opportunity to secure some investment?”
“But given the state of your company, there’s no way you’ll attract any investors. Who would be foolish enough to put money into a company on the verge of bankruptcy?”
“Zitong, Uncle Chu, I’m the only one who can help you now. As long as Zitong agrees to be my girlfriend, I can invest in your company immediately. What do you say?”
Their expressions darkened to the extreme. Before Chu Zitong could say anything, Xia Yu sneered.
“How ridiculous and shameless. Young Master Zhang, was it? Do you really need to take advantage of a girl’s desperate situation and use money to pursue her? Isn’t that a little pathetic—or should I say, are you simply too weak?”
“You... What did you say?!”
Zhang Jialong glared furiously, feeling both humiliated and enraged.
“You live off your wife’s family. Do you even know who I am?!”
Chu Zitong hurriedly tugged at Xia Yu’s sleeve and whispered, “Forget it, Xia Yu. We can’t afford to offend him. The Zhang family is one of Shencheng’s top-tier families.”
“Oh? And what does that matter?”
Xia Yu’s face was filled with disdain. The Zhang family was nothing to him. Even if it had been one of the Three Great Families, once he was truly angered, he could turn Shencheng upside down and crush them beneath his feet.
“Boy, you’ve got some nerve, don’t you? You’re lucky today. If this weren’t the Xiao family’s reception, you’d already be dead.”
“When the reception is over, I’ll make sure you understand the consequences of provoking me.”
Zhang Jialong glared at him through clenched teeth before turning back to Chu Zitong and Chu Bin.
“Think carefully about what I just said. Otherwise, you can wait for your company to go under!”
“Something must be wrong with you. Even if the company went bankrupt, I would never be your girlfriend.”
Chu Zitong cursed under her breath, too aggrieved to contain herself, though she naturally did not dare let him hear. Their company could not withstand any further blow at present.
Chu Bin sighed and said to Xia Yu, “Young man, boasting won’t do you any good. You’ve already offended them twice.”
“As an elder, let me give you a word of advice: leave quietly while you still can. Otherwise, you’ll end up in a very bad situation tonight.”
“Thank you for your concern, Uncle.” Xia Yu chuckled. “But they’re nothing more than a bunch of clowns. I don’t take them seriously.”
“Arrogant!”
Chu Bin snorted coldly. It was clear to him that Xia Yu did not appear to have any impressive background. Even if he did, he could never compare with Liang Zichao, Zhang Jialong, and the others. He was simply courting death.
After so many years of struggling in the business world, Chu Bin trusted his own judgment.
Xia Yu merely smiled, not taking offense. “Uncle, Zitong once helped me. Since you’ve run into difficulties, I can help you resolve them. There’s no need to worry.”
“Young man, worry about yourself first. Stop making grand claims.”
Chu Bin shook his head slightly. Confidence was a good thing in a young man, but blind confidence was simply stupidity.

Xia Yu offered no further explanation. After saying goodbye, he turned and walked back.
Just as Xia Yu returned to Zhao Sijie’s side, a group of people appeared on the stage above them.
A bespectacled, middle-aged, portly man took up the microphone. “Welcome, everyone. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us.”
“The purpose of tonight’s reception is to celebrate the formal launch of cooperation between Jinhai Group and Yinghao Group. Now, please welcome the chairman of Jinhai Group, Mr. Jinhai, to speak.”
A refined-looking middle-aged man standing behind him was Jinhai. He took the microphone and delivered an equally polished version of the official speech.
At the end, he added, “And now, let us warmly invite the vice chairman of Yinghao Group, Mr. Xiao Jun, to come onstage and address us.”
Everyone immediately perked up. After all, Xiao Jun’s influence in both the business world and Shencheng was extraordinary.
As the designated successor of the Xiao family, he possessed an aura that was simply overwhelming.
Xiao Jun stepped onto the stage. His aristocratic bearing and handsome features made many of the noblewomen present swoon like lovestruck girls.
He had long since grown accustomed to occasions like this and appeared entirely composed.
“Chairman Jinhai has already explained the details of our recent cooperation quite clearly, so I won’t repeat them. Aside from thanking everyone for coming, I’d like to take this opportunity to mention something unrelated.”
“The president of the media company under Yinghao Group has never been publicly announced. Tonight, I would like to make a formal announcement.”
“What...?”
The entire hall erupted in astonishment and anticipation.
If Xiao Jun had not brought it up, most people would probably have forgotten about it.
Some time ago, Yinghao Group had made two major moves that caused a sensation throughout Shencheng. One was the investment of three billion yuan to build a sky-garden amusement park. The other was its acquisition of the city’s largest media company.
The group had also revealed that it had hired an outside president. Rumor had it that the person had been personally recruited by Xiao Jun himself. Everyone had been intensely curious about the identity of this mysterious figure.
Yet the enigmatic president had remained silent for a long time. Even the company’s own employees had never seen this person.
As time passed, people naturally forgot about it. Now that Xiao Jun had suddenly made the announcement official, everyone was excited once again.
Liang Zichao and the others were also staring at Xiao Jun onstage, curious to discover who this president really was.
“I hereby officially announce that the president of Yinghao Media is Xia Yu!”
When Xiao Jun finished speaking, the hall fell silent for a moment before shocked voices began to rise.
“Xia Yu? Who’s that?”
“I’ve never heard of him. Does anyone know?”
“No idea. I do know a live-in son-in-law named Xia Yu.”

“He’s that useless son-in-law of the Lin family—the one they later threw out.”
“Damn it, why bring up that loser? What does this have to do with him?”
“Exactly. So who is this Xia Yu?”
The crowd began discussing it among themselves.
Zhao Sijie, Wang Dong, Four-Eyes, and the others were all dumbfounded. Almost instinctively, they turned to look at Xia Yu.
“Xia Yu? Did Chairman Xiao just say Xia Yu?”
“I think so. Could there be someone else here with the same name?”
“Or... was Chairman Xiao talking about you? Are you the president of Yinghao?”
Xiao Qin stared at Xia Yu with her mouth hanging open in shock.
“How could that be? Are you stupid, Xiao Qin?” Wu Tian mocked. “It must just be a case of identical names. How could Xia Yu possibly be the person Chairman Xiao was talking about?”
“Exactly. What are you talking about? Xia Yu is just a driver,” Wang Dong and Four-Eyes echoed with disdain.
They would never believe that the man onstage was the Xia Yu standing right in front of them.
The same reaction occurred among Liang Zichao and the others. When they heard the name Xia Yu, they froze.
But a moment later, they all shook their heads and sneered.
“How could it possibly be that useless loser?”
“Stop doubting me. If that’s really him, I’ll twist off my own head and let you kick it like a ball,” one of the young masters said with a cold laugh.
“It just so happens that Xia Yu is here tonight as well. Let us invite him onto the stage.”
Xiao Jun continued speaking from the platform.
A thunderous round of applause immediately filled the hall.
