Chapter 134: Your Doomsday Has Been Delivered (17)

A building somewhere in the county town.
There were quite a few people in the lobby, gathered in small groups to talk or rest.
Apart from them, people in combat uniforms stood watch on the other side, weapons in hand.
Among the crowd, a young woman was angrily berating someone. “You said you saw Brother Mu. Why haven’t you found him yet?”
If Ling Qiong had been there, she would have recognized the girl as Lin Miaoru.
The man beside Lin Miaoru cut in, “People have legs, you know. Besides, you can’t necessarily trust everything survivors say… Good grief, do you think this is still the world before the apocalypse?”
Finding someone was not that easy.
Lin Miaoru fell silent.
She grumbled irritably for a while, then went off to sulk by herself.
The man hurried over to coax her, bringing her tea and water and saying all sorts of nice things. Lin Miaoru did not appreciate it, however, and even lashed out at him.
The man was remarkably patient, determined to play the devoted lapdog to the bitter end.
“Someone come! Someone—hurry!”
Several people returned from outside, shouting loudly.
Everyone in the lobby turned their attention toward them.
Lin Miaoru included.
These were the same people who had just clashed with Ling Qiong.
The injured were carried off for treatment, while those who were unharmed explained what had happened.
The more Lin Miaoru listened, the deeper her frown grew. She pushed her way into the middle of the group. “What did that woman look like?”
The man described her in detail.
Although Lin Miaoru noticed some discrepancies, she still believed the woman had been Xu Wuyan.
The man continued speaking.
He even revealed that Jiang Xunchu had been bitten, yet had not mutated.
The news stirred up a storm.
Everyone present erupted in commotion.
As far as they knew, no one who had been bitten had ever avoided mutation.
The armed men on the other side of the lobby heard the commotion and called the group over for questioning. “Where are they?”
Though the men were dressed in combat uniforms, they looked fierce and intimidating, and the group was somewhat afraid of them.
Their leader was named Zhao Qi. He was not bad-looking—in fact, he could even be called handsome.
But two savage scars marked his face, making him frightening to look at.
“They… they ran east. They probably haven’t left the county town yet.”
Zhao Qi tapped his fingers against the table as he pondered for a moment, then looked at the speaker. “You’ll lead the way.”
He quickly selected a small squad and prepared to go out personally in search of them.
Lin Miaoru hurried forward. “Zhao Qi, I’m going too.”
Zhao Qi glanced at her. “What are you going for?”
“None of your business. I’m going, that’s all.”
Zhao Qi fell silent.
“All right. I’ll allow it for Mu Chen’s sake. But if you die, don’t blame me.”

…
Ling Qiong was currently inside a supermarket.
The useful supplies had long since been taken. Everything left behind was worthless.
When Jiang Xunchu saw An Changjing on the other side, he walked over to Ling Qiong and asked, “Why did you hit them there?”
“Where?”
Jiang Xunchu pointed at his thigh.
She had struck precisely where he had been bitten. Even if there had been some discrepancy, it could not have been by much.
One person might have been coincidence, but all three had been the same.
She had definitely done it on purpose.
“Weren’t they bullying you? I was avenging you.”
“Avenging… me?”
He had suspected as much, but hearing her say it aloud still felt different…
There was something strangely wonderful about it.
“Of course. How could Daddy ever let you suffer?”
Ling Qiong patted him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. Anyone who bullies you, I’ll bully right back.”
Her little darling might be expensive to keep, but he was someone she had raised herself.
How could she let other people bully him?
“…” Daddy?
Jiang Xunchu did not think much of it. Online, girls called themselves “Daddy” all the time.
Jiang Xunchu asked, “Aren’t you going to ask me anything else?”
“What?”
“About me being bitten.”
By then, he had actually been bitten for nearly five days, but he had only told her it had been one day.
“Oh. You mean the fact that you lied to me.”
Jiang Xunchu lowered his eyes to the floor. “Yes.”
Ling Qiong shrugged indifferently. “We weren’t familiar with each other back then. It was perfectly normal for you to be wary. You had only just escaped from the wolves’ den, after all.”
Anyone sensible would have been cautious. If she had been in his position, she would have kept things hidden too.
Jiang Xunchu asked, “…You’re really not angry?”
“Not at all.”
Ling Qiong’s eyes shifted as she looked at him. “If you think I am, why don’t you kiss me?”
She turned her face toward him and tapped her cheek with one fingertip, anticipation shining in her eyes.
She would never be the one to initiate a kiss, but if her little darling took the initiative, there might still be hope.
It was worth looking forward to a little…
Hee hee.
Jiang Xunchu fell silent.
He made his refusal clear through his actions.
Ling Qiong pursed her lips and muttered softly, “Then I’ll save it up.”
She walked to a row of shelves and began rummaging through them.
Jiang Xunchu had originally intended to go over to An Changjing, but with Ling Qiong alone, he did not feel entirely at ease. In the end, he followed her.
This row of shelves was relatively orderly, though covered in a layer of dust.

Ling Qiong searched through the dust-free items near the bottom. The brightly colored packages left Jiang Xunchu utterly bewildered.
Only when Ling Qiong began stuffing the items into his arms and telling him to hold them did he realize what those square packages were.
Bread.
Jiang Xunchu fell silent.
He felt as though he were holding a hot potato.
For reasons rooted in psychology, there was always an impassable barrier when it came to things like this.
Jiang Xunchu did not dare throw them away, however, and could only hold them for her.
She was far too practiced at treating him like a servant…
“Do you really need this many?” The pile of bread in his arms kept growing higher.
“I couldn’t find the kind I used before, and I don’t know which one works best. I have to try them all.”
Jiang Xunchu fell silent again.
An Changjing came over from the other side after clearing a path through the store. When he saw Jiang Xunchu’s condition, he slipped away awkwardly.
“You two carry on. Carry on.”
After putting some distance between himself and them, An Changjing muttered inwardly.
Were the standards for being an older brother really this high now?
Did he even have to take care of his little sister’s intimate needs?
What a perfect big brother!
An Changjing decided to take a look around the other side. As he passed the entrance, he glanced outside.
That single glance nearly made him jump out of his skin.
His body reacted faster than his mind. By the time his thoughts caught up, he was already crouching down and moving behind the shelves. He waved at Ling Qiong and Jiang Xunchu.
“What is it?”
An Changjing waved for them to crouch down. “A car is coming.”
In times like these, no one dared greet strangers openly upon seeing them.
That greeting might send them straight to the King of Hell.
Jiang Xunchu and Ling Qiong simultaneously slipped to the side, using a blind spot to conceal themselves.
The sound of the engine drew closer from afar before the vehicle stopped outside.
The opening and closing of the doors, along with the sounds of people moving around, carried in from outside.
“It’s this car.”
“The car is here. They should be somewhere nearby. Search the area.”
“You search over there. You take this side…”
Ling Qiong raised an eyebrow. “They’re here for us.”
Jiang Xunchu said, “Those people from earlier have accomplices…”
Ling Qiong regretted it terribly.
She should never have let that group go.
Would it really have been so bad to crack open each of their skulls?
Good intentions never go unpunished!
