Chapter 123: Your Doomsday Has Been Delivered (6)
Fang Sanqian’s entire group was still alive, though some had been injured.
Having narrowly escaped disaster, they gathered together, relieved and grateful to be alive.
“Are you finished discussing it?”
Lingqiong’s voice pulled them back to reality. They remembered at once that they were still in great danger and should not linger there.
They turned to look at her.
Fang Sanqian frowned slightly. Had she been wearing those clothes just now?
It seemed not…
And yet, perhaps she had.
There had not been enough time for her to change, had there?
Fang Sanqian decided he must have remembered incorrectly.
“The parking lot is below us.” Lingqiong shone her glow stick at the map on the wall. “We can go down from here.”
“We have to go through the garage?” No one was particularly eager to enter a place like that.
“You can go from above, too.” Lingqiong smiled faintly. “Provided you can defeat the people up there.”
“…”
“With all the noise just now, someone will probably come down soon. We should leave first.”
“What kind of people are they…?”
“These days, there are all kinds of lunatics.”
…
No one dared remain there. They hurried toward the underground parking garage.
No one dared ask Lingqiong why she had separated from them earlier.
They only knew that if she had not suddenly appeared, they might all have…
The parking lot looked like the aftermath of a massive pileup.
The floor was filthy and chaotic, littered with clothes, plastic bags, shattered glass, and all sorts of random debris.
Dried, dark blood had been dragged across the ground in grotesque patterns.
Bloody handprints stained the windows of the cars, and dead zombies lay scattered about…
“Could there be zombies here?”
No one dared simply walk in. They cautiously stuck their heads out to survey the area.
In a place like this, there was a ninety percent chance of encountering zombies.
Clang—
An empty can rolled across the floor, its noise grating against the silence.
Everyone stared in shock at the culprit who had thrown it.
Outside, silence still reigned. There was no sign of any zombies.
Ling—the culprit—turned her head and spoke with an innocent air. “Experiment complete. None here. Let’s go.”
Everyone: “…”
What kind of experiment was that?!
What if there had been zombies?
She looked so delicate and frail. How could she be so fearless?!
Without a word, they followed the exit signs through the parking lot, doing their best not to make a sound.
When they saw the light outside and were nearly clear of the gloomy garage, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
“Damn it!”
Zhang Yang, walking at the front, suddenly cursed under his breath. He gestured for everyone to stop, then crouched down.
“What is it?” Fang Sanqian bent over and edged toward the front.
“Zombies.” Zhang Yang’s expression was grim. “A whole crowd of them!”
“…”
The atmosphere suddenly grew heavy.
…
Inside the shopping mall, a group of murderous criminals was on the loose. Outside, the exit was blocked by zombies. The group slumped against the wall, utterly dispirited and unsure what to do.
“See those vehicles over there?” Lingqiong pointed toward the trucks they could just barely make out.
They were some distance away, and the entire stretch between them was filled with zombies.
Lingqiong remembered clearly that those vehicles had not been parked there before. They were probably the group’s trucks from the night before.
“Yeah… Miss Xu, do you have an idea?”
“When the zombies leave, go start the trucks and circle around to the right.”
“How could the zombies possibly leave?”
Lingqiong smiled. “They will if someone distracts them.”
Everyone: “…”
Who was going to distract them?
Would anyone survive that?
None of them had expected Lingqiong to say that she would do it herself.
“Miss Xu, you…”
“Don’t overthink it. I’m going to find someone to help us. I don’t want to die.” Lingqiong waved a hand and headed deeper into the garage. “Do exactly as I say.”
After walking two meters, she stopped and turned slightly. A smile still curved her beautiful face, and her soft voice was barely more than a whisper.
“Be very careful not to make a mistake. Otherwise, it may cost more than just your own life.”
Everyone: “…”
Lingqiong’s figure soon vanished into the darkness.
The others exchanged glances as cold sweat slid down their backs.
They did not know why, but there had been something terrifying in Lingqiong’s gaze just then—something that sent a chill through them.
She had told them to circle around to the right and wait.
Fang Sanqian vaguely remembered that there was a platform over there. Someone with enough skill and courage ought to be able to climb down from it.
Perhaps her warning had been meant to stop them from driving away without her.
“Brother Qian, what do we do?”
“Wait.” Fang Sanqian let out a breath. “She should know what she’s doing. Everyone, get ready…”
…
Lingqiong certainly was not trying to play the hero.
She simply needed to get out as well, and she had to find a way.
Fang Sanqian and the others did not have to wait long. Soon, a deafening alarm began blaring from the front entrance of the mall.
Several of them jumped in fright.
The sound was simply too loud.
…
Hearing the commotion, the zombies outside abandoned their aimless wandering and charged toward the noise with all their strength.
Once Fang Sanqian confirmed that all the zombies outside had left, he led the others toward the trucks in one breath. The journey went astonishingly smoothly.
…
Lingqiong stood atop the platform. The alarm continued to blare from the other side, and the zombies’ furious roars drifted over one after another.
She leaned against the railing and looked down at the relatively clean paving stones below.
Her fingertips tapped against the railing as she calculated the time.
The area below remained empty. Not a single vehicle appeared.
Just as Lingqiong was about to turn around, a vehicle slowly emerged. Someone leaned half their body out of the window and called to her in a hushed voice.
“Miss Xu!”
The vehicle soon stopped beneath the platform.
The platform was somewhat higher than the ground, and there was little to climb down by. Getting down was not nearly as easy as one might imagine.
Yet they watched as Lingqiong swung herself over the railing and leaped straight down.
With a heavy thump, she landed on the truck’s canvas cover. The people in the back then saw her slide down from above and jump into the truck.
Her movements were clean and nimble, yet carried a hint of casual ease.
On a man, such a move might have looked dashing.
But on a girl in a beautiful dress, with hair falling to her waist, it possessed an entirely different kind of beauty.
Lingqiong dusted off her hands, straightened her skirt, and walked to the front to speak to Fang Sanqian in the driver’s seat.
“Find a road and loop back toward where our convoy was earlier.”
Fang Sanqian nearly drove the truck into the shops along the roadside.
“Miss Xu, that area is crawling with zombies now. Going back would be suicide!”
Lingqiong leaned against the side of the truck. “If you’re afraid, you can get out.”
Everyone: “…”
Lingqiong was the one who had found them this truck. If she truly wanted it, they would feel too ashamed to take it from her.
After wrestling with the decision for a while, Fang Sanqian finally turned the truck around and drove toward the mall.
They were unfamiliar with the area and could only choose roads by instinct, hoping they would eventually lead them there.
Lingqiong opened the truck’s rear compartment. Inside were several weapons and some supplies, though not much.
There had been three similar trucks parked there. They were probably all owned by that group.
Fang Sanqian might simply have had bad luck and chosen the truck with the least supplies—or perhaps those people really were that poor.
“Are we really going back?”
“There are zombies over there, and that group of people too…”
The others sat together in the back of the truck, whispering among themselves, unable to hide their fear.
“Going back is no different from throwing our lives away.”
“I don’t want to go back.”
That was what they said, but they had no say in the matter. All they could do was pray that returning would not mean certain death.
