Chapter 108: Together We Go
After scum like Wang Zhizhong took a slap from Yang Jiekai, he immediately flew into a rage. “Fuck! You dare hit me? Do you know who I am?”
“I know. You’re a fucking dog!”
Yang Jiekai had just downed a glass of strong liquor, and his head was beginning to swim slightly. Squinting at Wang Zhizhong, he had already decided that he was going to teach the bastard a lesson tonight.
At that moment, seven or eight bodyguards rushed over from behind Wang Zhizhong and surrounded Yang Jiekai. Just as they were about to attack, several staff members happened to walk past.
“Gentlemen, please don’t cause trouble here. If there’s some kind of misunderstanding, you can settle it outside.”
Wang Zhizhong glanced at the staff members and stopped the bodyguards who were about to move in.
Anyone capable of running a bar built around underground fighting was certainly no ordinary person. If they caused trouble here, they might not come out ahead.
Wang Zhizhong glared angrily at Yang Jiekai. Then, after rolling his eyes, he pointed at the steel cage in the center of the bar.
“Kid, if you’ve got the guts, why don’t you come up and play?”
Yang Jiekai rolled his shoulders. “Sure. I’m bored out of my mind anyway.”
Wang Zhizhong gave a cold snort and left with several of his bodyguards.
Only then did Han Wei tug at the corner of Yang Jiekai’s clothes. “Brother-in-law, don’t fall for it. Wang Zhizhong knows how to fight. You can’t beat him.”
Yang Jiekai grinned at her. “What a coincidence—I know how to fight too. Don’t worry. You’ve seen what I can do. I’ll vent your anger for you in a moment. I’m going to cripple that scumbag!”
By then, Wang Zhizhong had already taken off his shirt, revealing a body covered in tightly corded muscle. He stepped into the cage and pointed provocatively at Yang Jiekai.
“What are you waiting for? If you don’t dare come up, get on your knees and kowtow three times. Then we’ll call it even.”
Yang Jiekai let out a cold laugh, slowly removed his jacket, and handed it to Han Wei. After lightly patting her shoulder to signal that she needn’t worry, he began walking toward the cage.
“Brother-in-law…”
Han Wei felt her heart tighten. She knew exactly what kind of man Wang Zhizhong was. He was a ninth-degree black belt in karate and had started training in martial arts when he was four or five years old. In fact, the reason she had once become involved with him was that, while she was abroad, several thugs had harassed her and Wang Zhizhong had stepped in to help.
In all the years she had known him, she had never once seen Wang Zhizhong lose a fight.
As for Yang Jiekai, Han Wei knew he had some skill, but she had no idea how strong he really was. She could only feel that he was walking into serious danger.
But it was already too late to stop him. Yang Jiekai had entered the cage, and once a heavy padlock sealed it shut, the fight officially began.
Wang Zhizhong rolled his shoulders. The muscles in his body cracked sharply, like a string of firecrackers. He pointed at Yang Jiekai.
“Kid, today I’m going to have you carried out of here.”
With that, he prepared to charge.
“Wait!”
Yang Jiekai suddenly shouted.
Wang Zhizhong sneered. “What? Regretting it now? Too late. Get ready for a trip to the hospital!”
Yang Jiekai rubbed his nose and gave a cold smile. “I don’t think this is fair.”
Wang Zhizhong stared at him blankly for a moment before bursting into laughter. “You’re right. It isn’t fair. How about I fight you with one hand? Fair enough now?”
Yang Jiekai sighed softly. “Are you stupid? I mean that one person fighting me is too unfair. Call all your bodyguards up here. I’ll deal with them all at once and save myself the trouble.”
The moment he said this, the entire venue fell silent.
Was this kid out of his mind? He had actually volunteered to fight several men by himself.
Among the customers drinking there were no shortage of experts. Although the two men had yet to exchange blows, many had already recognized from Wang Zhizhong’s stance that he was highly skilled.
Just as they were secretly sweating for Yang Jiekai, the young man had astonishingly asked for Wang Zhizhong’s bodyguards to join the fight as well.
Wang Zhizhong laughed even louder, convinced that fear had driven the kid insane.
“Enough bullshit. Get down!”
As he spoke, Wang Zhizhong shifted sideways, planted his foot, and unleashed a vicious whipping kick at Yang Jiekai.
The planted-step whipping kick was one of karate’s most powerful techniques. Its force was in no way inferior to a Muay Thai roundhouse. A master who had trained to a certain level could use a single kick to snap a coconut palm as thick as a bowl.
That one move alone was enough to tell Yang Jiekai that his opponent possessed genuine skill. Against an ordinary person, a dozen men might not even have been able to get close to him.
A roar of astonishment burst from the crowd as everyone waited to see Yang Jiekai swept off his feet.
But the instant the cries began, the entire crowd fell silent again.
They had witnessed something utterly bizarre.
The man who had launched that fearsome kick was the one lying on the ground.
No one had seen how the slightly slender, plain-looking young man had moved.
In truth, Yang Jiekai’s technique had been extremely simple. Just as Wang Zhizhong’s kick was about to reach his face, he had shifted his footing slightly and then kicked his opponent in the ankle.
It belonged to no particular school or discipline. It was nothing more than a rough street-fighting trick, yet it was highly practical in real combat.
There was an old saying: of all martial arts, speed is the only thing that cannot be overcome.
Yang Jiekai had simply been too fast. So fast that, among the hundreds of people present, no one had seen how he had attacked.
Even Wang Zhizhong himself had no idea how he had ended up on the floor.
He scrambled back to his feet, assuming it had merely been an accident.
But just as he prepared to launch his second assault, Yang Jiekai suddenly moved.
Wang Zhizhong saw only a blurred afterimage. Before he could react, Yang Jiekai was already standing in front of him.
Yang Jiekai seized him by the shoulder. With his other hand, he drove a vicious hook into Wang Zhizhong’s stomach, then wrenched down on the back of his head and slammed a knee into his face.
There was a sharp crack.
Wang Zhizhong’s nasal bone was smashed flat beneath Yang Jiekai’s knee.
The moves themselves had been ordinary—techniques commonly seen in street fights, simple beyond description.
But in Yang Jiekai’s hands, they became lightning-fast killing blows.
And Yang Jiekai had shown mercy. Otherwise, Wang Zhizhong would already have been dead.
Yang Jiekai’s former instructor, Yang Chen, had once told him that, once a true combat master reached a certain level, techniques became meaningless. What mattered was who was faster and who was stronger.
Everything that had just happened had occurred in the blink of an eye.
The spectators stared at one another, completely unable to understand what had happened. Several seconds passed before they finally came to their senses, bursting into cries of shock and collective gasps.
Wang Zhizhong was carried out of the cage, while Yang Jiekai strolled out behind him as calmly as though nothing had happened.
Han Wei stood frozen in place, her mouth hanging open as if she had been turned to stone.
“What’s wrong, little sister-in-law? Did you get hit with a paralysis spell?”
Yang Jiekai chuckled and patted her shoulder. Only then did Han Wei snap back to reality.
“Brother-in-law, you’re amazing! I’m giving you thirty-two thumbs-up!”
Yang Jiekai threw his head back and laughed.
When they left the bar, Han Wei felt exhilarated. Her eyes sparkled as she stared at Yang Jiekai.
“Brother-in-law, I’m starting to feel a little jealous of my sister,” Han Wei said glumly.
Yang Jiekai chuckled. “Why?”
“How are you so incredibly strong? You looked unbelievably cool just now. If you weren’t my brother-in-law, I’d fight to the death to marry you.”
“Uh…”
Yang Jiekai was rendered speechless. His little sister-in-law had grown up abroad, and both her way of thinking and the way she spoke were comparatively uninhibited.
“It’s fine. I’m pretty open-minded myself. I can accept having several wives. If you really want to give yourself to me, we can quietly get to work and just not tell your sister.”
Yang Jiekai teased her.
“Dream on. Aren’t you worried I’ll go home and tell my sister?”
After watching Wang Zhizhong get beaten, Han Wei felt much better. All her earlier displeasure had been cast aside, and she skipped ahead like a young girl.
Yang Jiekai followed behind her. Then, as though remembering something, he quickly asked, “Oh, right. What was the story with your sister’s ex-boyfriend?”
“You mean Li Bin?”
Han Wei kicked an empty can out of her way.
“He doesn’t really count as my sister’s ex-boyfriend. He was just one of her admirers—and a completely obsessed one at that. When my sister was in college, she almost agreed to date him. But then something happened, and the whole thing eventually came to nothing.”
“Oh, I see.”
Remembering how he had treated Han Ning earlier that day because of the matter, Yang Jiekai began to feel somewhat remorseful. Li Bin had not actually done anything to him. He had been the one to charge over and pick a fight. He had no idea what he had been thinking at the time.
As Yang Jiekai wondered whether he should apologize to Han Ning when they got back, he suddenly sensed something.
“Little sister-in-law, can you still drive?”
Han Wei nodded. “My head’s a little dizzy, but I can drive home without a problem. What’s wrong? Don’t you want to walk with me a little longer?”
Yang Jiekai nodded. “Good. Go home right now. Text me when you get there. I have something else to do.”
Seeing the confusion on Han Wei’s face, Yang Jiekai smiled.
“I made your sister unhappy today, so I need to find a gift and coax her when I get back. I’ll need your help with that. Go home first and say a few nice things about me to your sister. Consider it preparing the ground for me.”
Han Wei immediately brightened. “No problem! You helped me get even today, so I’ll do you this favor!”
With that, Han Wei walked over to her red Ferrari, got in, and sped away.
Only after she had disappeared did Yang Jiekai stroll leisurely down the road, whistling to himself. Night had long since fallen. When he reached a secluded spot, he calmly lit a cigarette and said, “Stop hiding. Come out—all of you.”
