Chapter 29: Return to the Town
Lin Chuyi gnashed her teeth in frustration.
"Let's go, let's go," Lin Qiyue said with a chuckle, supporting Mo Yu as they turned to leave. He felt quite clever; otherwise, he had no idea how much more silver this girl might have swindled out of Brother Mo. If this kept up, he really wouldn't be able to pay it back.
The corners of Mo Yu’s mouth curled upward. His mood, previously dampened by the ambush, lifted significantly as he watched the siblings bicker.
Lin Chuyi gritted her teeth and huffed, but she had no choice but to follow. Fortunately, she possessed a naturally lively temperament, and within moments, the matter was cast to the back of her mind.
Due to Mo Yu’s injuries, the trio walked quite slowly, and it was half an hour before they reached the town.
"Huh? Why are there so few people today?" Lin Chuyi looked around in confusion, muttering to herself.
Lin Qiyue chuckled. "Have you forgotten? In a few days, it will be the annual Flower Festival. Everyone must have gone off somewhere to watch the spectacle."
Upon hearing this, Lin Chuyi’s eyes brightened instantly. Right, how could she have forgotten that? In a few days, she would have a mountain of silver to earn.
Her expression was so transparent that anyone could tell exactly what she was plotting. Lin Qiyue gave her a helpless look and continued to support Mo Yu toward their home.
"A Flower Festival? Is it a festival for appreciating flowers?" Mo Yu found himself intrigued. In his impression, Muming Town was little more than a settlement slightly larger than an ordinary village. Strictly speaking, it was barely more than a big hamlet, so the idea of such an elegant festival being held here piqued his curiosity.
Lin Qiyue knew he was misunderstanding, so he offered a mysterious smile. "Brother Mo, you'll see when the time comes. It is indeed for appreciation, but—hehe." As he spoke, Lin Qiyue began to laugh to himself, his expression bordering on devious, which was honestly quite asking for a beating.
Mo Yu’s mouth twitched, but seeing that the boy wouldn't elaborate, he decided not to press the matter.
"Yiyi! Yiyi!"
"Hanzi," Lin Chuyi said helplessly, watching Chen Han, who was limping on one leg but insisting on running toward her.
Dahan lowered his head shyly. "Yiyi, are... are you alright?"
Lin Chuyi was slightly taken aback. What could be wrong with her?
"Yiyi, is your injury alright?" Dahan asked again when he didn't receive an immediate reply.
Lin Chuyi finally realized he was referring to yesterday’s events. She shook her head. "Yes, I'm fine."
"Th-that's good," Dahan stammered, his face flushing red.
Seeing Dahan with his head bowed, not daring to look at her, Lin Chuyi couldn't help but laugh. She had always found it strange that ever since they were children, Dahan never dared to look at her when he spoke. It had even led her to wonder for a time if she were incredibly ugly and scaring him.
Hearing her laughter, Dahan stole a glance at her, then accidentally caught sight of Lin Qiyue and Mo Yu standing nearby. He let out a startled sound. "Xiao Qi, y-you're here too?"
Lin Qiyue pressed his lips together to hide a grin. "Only just noticed me?"
Dahan scratched his head, looking at him sheepishly.
"Hanzi, where did everyone go? Where are they watching the spectacle?" Lin Chuyi poked Dahan’s arm, clearly more interested in this question.
Dahan, who had just lifted his head, lowered it once more. "Auntie Qi lost a chicken and a bowl. Sh-she just went to the magistrate's office to report it, and everyone went along to watch the excitement."
