Chapter 5: The Gentle Leading Man and the Dark Red Rising Star
But Su Tang still wasn’t ready to give up. If trying once or twice didn’t work, then what about later? Maybe it would help a little, after all.
What Su Tang didn’t know was that the moment Song Heqing returned and met her gaze again, his heart skipped a beat once more.
He hurriedly steadied his emotions. As a seasoned actor, he didn’t show any other feelings in front of Su Tang.
Yet, just like before, his heart began pounding wildly, though after a short while, that sensation faded again.
If it was just an illusion the first time, this time Song Heqing was certain—and it puzzled him.
The feeling was so strange, like the fluttering heartbeat one experiences when seeing something deeply cherished, yet it wasn’t quite that.
Still, having felt this sudden thrill twice left a deep impression on him.
They remained silent during this time. Unbeknownst to Su Tang, Song Heqing stole a few glances at her, but the reaction from before never reappeared, which left him somewhat intrigued.
Could it have been because of the eye contact?
Su Tang’s mood dipped afterward; her confidence took a hit, leaving her feeling down. If her charm didn’t work on Song Heqing, she’d have to find another way to get close to him.
Fortunately, they still had a variety show to attend together, giving her a chance to let feelings grow over time.
First, though, she needed to shake off the stigma of being blacklisted and boost her fame—a daunting and long road lay ahead.
When the brand event ended, the two exchanged polite greetings before going their separate ways.
Just as Su Tang reached the exit, someone called out to her.
“Su Tang.”
She turned to see Wen Tian, another female guest from the outdoor variety show.
Recalling the original owner’s memories, Su Tang felt averse to engaging with her—much like the disdain she felt toward her own manager.
But Wen Tian quickly approached, and with many eyes watching, Su Tang forced a smile and greeted her.
“Ah, Tian Tian.” Bring it on—let’s see who gets under the other’s skin first.
Their greetings appeared warm, and they walked together, but beneath the surface, Wen Tian immediately whispered a challenge.
“Su Tang, how did you manage to cozy up to Senior Song? He never lets anyone sit beside him—why did he allow you today?”
Su Tang looked at Wen Tian in mock surprise. “Tian Tian, what are you talking about? When did I ever cozy up to Senior Song?”
Wen Tian’s expression twisted for a moment before she quickly masked it. “You just spoke a few words to Chief Song, and you think you can climb your way up to him? Stop dreaming.”
Su Tang smiled innocently. “But sister, you can’t even get a word in with Chief Song—not even dream about it. That’s truly pitiful.”
“You…!” With many people nearby, Wen Tian struggled to contain her temper. “Just wait and see. Someone like you doesn’t deserve to stand beside Song Heqing!”
Su Tang leaned close to Wen Tian’s ear, and while others thought they were sharing a friendly secret, she calmly whispered, “Then you’re even less worthy.”
“You!” Wen Tian’s face flushed with anger. Hidden beneath her gown, she stamped her foot.
“Sister, see you in a few days~” Su Tang’s eyes curved into a smile as she bid Wen Tian farewell.
As Su Tang turned to walk away, suddenly Wen Tian, seemingly spotting something, discreetly extended her leg beneath the cover of her dress.
