Chapter 2: The Gentle Movie King and the Infamous Starlet
The original host knew all too well that this would invite even harsher criticism. Already deeply depressed, her long-standing burdens weighed on her, and this time, she couldn’t find a way through.
Su Tang unlocked her phone, and as expected, there was a message from her agent, instructing her to walk the red carpet after Yang Xi.
Checking the time, Su Tang realized it was about time. She stood up, went to the mirror, and made a few adjustments to her makeup. Soon enough, someone came to call her.
She ignored the agent’s prior instructions and followed the staff out.
The company hadn’t assigned her an assistant, and though luckily her outfit today wasn’t too cumbersome, the lack of help was undeniably inconvenient. Su Tang thought she should look for someone suitable when the opportunity arose.
As a member of the fox clan, Su Tang was confident in her own beauty. She walked slowly onto the red carpet.
The camera flashes immediately began to flicker all around her. With a polite smile, Su Tang moved gracefully to the photo area.
She didn’t strike any provocative poses as the media had expected. Instead, she bent slightly to take the pen offered by a staff member, signed her name swiftly, and then turned around to let the photographers take their shots.
There was nothing odd about her stance. Dressed in a figure-hugging gown, her tall, slender form was a scene all its own.
Her eyes were slightly upturned at the corners, and beneath those expressive eyes was a single tear mole. She met the cameras’ gaze as the media directed her.
Just ahead lay the interview area—where the true battle would begin.
Su Tang was ready for the verbal sparring that awaited. The moment she approached, the reporters surged forward.
Though Su Tang wasn’t particularly liked, the heat around her—however controversial—still meant traffic.
“Su Tang, is it true that you were supposed to close the show after Yang Xi?”
“Su Tang, is your rumored relationship with Zhang Chengwen real?”
“Su Tang, we heard you disregarded the production team’s instructions while filming the variety show and acted out of line. Any explanation?”
“Su Tang, weren’t you rumored to be involved with Wang Zihao before? Why the new rumors with Zhang Chengwen?”
Each reporter thrust forward their microphone, their questions sharp and relentless.
Su Tang remained unruffled, choosing not to recite the scripted responses her agent had prepared.
She smoothed her hair, unhurried. “One, I’m currently single. Two, please support the new variety show—and don’t believe every rumor you hear.” With that, she winked at the reporter who’d just questioned her.
The media was momentarily stunned, then quickly pressed on: “Did you get involved with Wang Zihao because of his influence? Now that you’re linked with Zhang Chengwen, have you abandoned Wang Zihao? Is it because of the Wang family’s situation in the stock market?”
Facing their pointed questions, Su Tang’s expression didn’t change. Unlike before, she didn’t lash out. “Wang Zihao? Sorry, ladies don’t go for old men. As for Zhang Chengwen, well…”
Su Tang pretended to ponder deeply, drawing out the suspense until every eye was fixed on her—not just in the press area, but behind countless screens as well.
Sheep-Not-Lamb: [What is this woman up to again?]
Sweetie: [I have a feeling she’s about to stir up trouble again.]
Ha Who Lo: [Ugh, why is it her again? Get her off the screen—who wants to see her?]
9985: [What a b*tch—stop riding Zhang Chengwen’s coattails!!]
Sausage and Egg Fried Rice: [Can we just stop inviting Su Tang to the red carpet? Every time I see her, I want to puke. So many gorgeous stars, why bring in the rat poison?]
After a long pause, Su Tang finally spoke. “Sorry—I don’t know who that is. Maybe he’s just trying to ride my popularity.” She flashed them all a brilliant smile.
