City of Watch.

When the city lord Guo arrived, the heads of the Ye, Cao, Jin, Duanmu, and Cui families all stepped forward to greet him together.

City Lord Guo’s expression darkened slightly upon seeing the head of the Cui family. “Old Master Cui, what brings you here?” he asked with a strained smile.

“Oh, nothing much. A few days ago, my grandson Yuanhao mentioned that a brash youth had spoken disrespectfully of the Cui family and openly challenged him. I was simply curious to see which family could produce such an ill-mannered child. If necessary, I thought I might teach him a lesson on behalf of his elders.” The head of the Cui family smiled affably, but his words made it clear to City Lord Guo that he had come to stir up trouble on purpose.

City Lord Guo’s face clouded further, and he had no choice but to introduce Mage Kurt.

“In fact, I have something to discuss with you all,” City Lord Guo said. “This is Mage Kurt. He has taken a great interest in Chu Yun and wishes to accept him as a student.” He gestured towards Kurt as he spoke to the four family heads.

“Oh? Isn’t that my junior brother?” At that moment, a white man wearing a pointed wizard’s hat stepped out from the crowd. He looked at Kurt with a hint of amusement on his face.

“Mata, senior brother?” Kurt was surprised to see this man and eyed him warily.

“My dear junior, are you still working for the Guild?” Mata’s tone dripped with disdain at the mention of the Guild. “Why bother staying in such a cold and heartless organization?”

“If you broke the rules, you have only yourself to blame for being expelled. And I would thank you not to slander the Guild,” Kurt retorted with a snort.

“I remember that when I was expelled, you were still a Yellow Robe Mage. So many years have passed, and you’re still a Yellow Robe? Junior brother, don’t you understand? The higher-ups are hopelessly rigid. They never change and refuse to promote young talent. If only they’d shown me a shred of humanity back then, I’d be in a Blue Robe by now!” Mata chuckled.

“Senior brother, I didn’t come here to discuss old grievances.” Kurt cut him off and turned to the four family heads. “I hold Chu Yun in high regard, and so does the Guild. Regardless of any mistakes he may have made, could you not grant the Guild this favor?”

“Mage Kurt,” the head of the Cao family spoke up, “if someone dared to offend or blaspheme the Guild, and then apologized and repented, would the Guild forgive him?”

“Absolutely not!” Mata declared at once. “Outsider or insider, it makes no difference!”

He looked at Kurt with resentment. “I made one minor mistake, and they erased all my contributions!”

“Precisely,” the head of the Cao family said. “Chu Yun has offended my family. If that were all, I might grant the Guild this favor. But he has also offended the Duanmu, Jin, and Cui families. Mage Kurt, do you know what that means?”

Kurt fell silent.

The head of the Cao family pressed on, his tone righteous and stern. “It means he is challenging our entire class! We have already shown the city lord sufficient respect by letting this go, but if he dares to show himself today or repeats this in the future, then forgive us: we will kill him! No one’s intercession will matter. Either he survives, or we do!”

Kurt was about to speak when Mata fixed him with a warning glare. “Junior brother, you and I walk different paths now. Let’s not make things difficult for one another. I serve other interests now—don’t put me in an awkward position.”

“This is the Guild’s will!” Kurt shot back.

“I care nothing for the Guild!” Mata’s voice was cold. “Don’t speak to me of the Guild—it’s as good as dead to me. And don’t forget, the Guild’s rules forbid interfering in the affairs of other domains or powers. Are you planning to break that rule today?”

Kurt was left speechless.

Years ago, Mata himself had been expelled from the Guild for entanglements with secular powers. Now, he was using the same rule to leave Kurt with no ground to stand on.

“Enough of that. For now, let’s deal with the Ye family to set an example,” the head of the Cao family said. Noticing that Chu Yun had yet to appear and wanting to avoid further tension, he changed the subject with a laugh. “Everyone, please be seated. Don’t just stand around. So many curious citizens have come today—let them see for themselves the consequences of offending the great families. That way, perhaps the riffraff will think twice before getting above themselves and we can nip this trend in the bud!”

With a wave of his hand, he addressed the warrior holding a gleaming blade. “Start by chopping off Ye Wuwei’s head!”

“No!” cried the four remaining members of the Ye family.

Just then, a deep and powerful voice thundered across the courtyard: “Stop!”

The voice did not seem to come from nearby. Everyone on the stage turned to look around.

Not far behind the crowd of onlookers stood a tall, imposing figure, masked and with long hair streaming down his back.

It was Chu Yun, who had disguised himself.

“Who are you?” barked a guard at the front. “Do you not realize this is the Three Great Families carrying out justice?”

Chu Yun’s voice boomed, “I am an elder of the Chu family. Who was it just now that said they would kill Chu Yun, the last scion of my clan?”

An elder of the Chu family?

Everyone was stunned, including the five members of the Ye family. As old family friends, they knew the Chu family’s situation better than anyone—there were no elders left alive, were there?

The head of the Cao family rose from his seat and shouted, “Sneaking about, are you? Someone, tear off his mask!”

A dozen warriors stationed around the arena charged at Chu Yun.

He gave a disdainful snort, waved his hand, and a powerful shockwave of energy sent the charging warriors flying. With just a few casual movements, they were all thrown back, sprawling and overwhelmed.

The eyes of everyone on stage narrowed to slits.

“The Ye family and the Chu family have been close for generations. Not only do you dare threaten the last of my line, but you also treat the Ye family in this manner? It seems you all have grown truly bold.” As Chu Yun spoke, he stepped onto the stage.

With each step he advanced, the pressure from his presence grew, pressing down on the four family heads with overwhelming force.

City Lord Guo looked on in confusion and shock at the masked man.

An elder of the Chu family? Why had he never seen him before? And his aura was terrifying!

Watching the scene unfold through the video feed, Hou Yaodong leapt to his feet. “It’s him! It must be him! That elder—he’s really here!” His excitement was palpable.

Beside him, Yi Jifeng sat frozen in disbelief. “Does Chu Yun really have an elder still alive? But there was never anyone like this before. That display just now was unbelievable—the warriors trained in the Cao family’s inner courtyard are all at least third-rank, yet he scattered more than a dozen of them with a mere wave. How powerful is he?”

On the scene itself, the four family heads and the core elites were equally dumbfounded.
