Si Tang sneered coldly, a trace of mockery in her eyes. “President Gu, there’s no longer any need for cooperation between us. Your so-called ‘terms at my disposal’ are nothing but a disguised form of charity—and I, Si Tang, don’t need it.”

Gu Yubai’s face stiffened; he had not expected Si Tang to be so resolute.

Once, she had always looked at him tenderly, her eyes full of admiration and affection.

But now, her gaze was icy, as if she were staring at a stranger.

The stark contrast unsettled him and fueled his unwillingness to accept defeat.

“Are you really that heartless? Is there no friendship left between us that can even support cooperation?” Gu Yubai frowned.

Si Tang let out a bitter laugh.

“Gu Yubai,” she said slowly, each word sharp as ice, “it’s over. From the moment you walked into the house with Su Yuejin that day, everything ended. Now, please leave my company.”

Gu Yuchen didn’t know what was wrong with him today, why he insisted on seeking disdain.

His fists clenched tightly, knuckles white, yet he said nothing and turned to leave the office.

“Bang!” The door slammed again, but this time, Si Tang felt a wave of relief wash over her.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, struggling to suppress the emotions swirling within.

After Gu Yubai left, Tan Yin pushed the door open and walked over, gently patting her shoulder. “No deal?”

Si Tang gave an awkward smile. “I—I was rejected!”

She didn’t know why, but every time she saw him, she couldn’t contain her anger and completely forgot the matter of cooperation.

Tan Yin sighed. “Forget it. No cooperation means no cooperation. A man like that isn’t worth it!”

Si Tang didn’t want to dwell on Gu Yubai anymore. “Enough about him. I’ll call Meng Linchuan.”

She picked up her phone and dialed Meng Linchuan’s number.

When the call connected, Meng Linchuan’s lazy voice came through. “Hey, Tang, what’s up?”

Si Tang carefully chose her words. “Linchuan, Director Zhang wants you to play the male lead in his next movie. Are you free to meet him?”

There was a pause on the other end before Meng Linchuan spoke softly, “Tang Tang, I’m not interested in this script for now.”

Though he tried to hide it, a faint weariness slipped into his voice.

Si Tang rubbed her forehead, her tone resigned. “Linchuan, I know you have your standards for scripts, but Director Zhang’s movie is a great opportunity for you…”

“Tang Tang,” Meng Linchuan interrupted with a hint of a smile, “you know I never care about these so-called ‘opportunities.’ I just want to make films I love.”

Si Tang took a deep breath, still hoping to sway him. “Linchuan, could you at least meet with Director Zhang? Hear him out? Maybe you’ll change your mind.”

There was another pause. Perhaps sensing Si Tang’s difficulty and knowing Director Zhang had asked for her help, Meng Linchuan hesitated before replying, “Alright, Tang Tang, I’ll listen to you.”

He chuckled bitterly. “You know me—I can never refuse you…”

“Okay, it’s settled then.” Si Tang hung up, exhaling deeply, a smile breaking across her face.

“Did it work?” Tan Yin leaned in eagerly.

Si Tang nodded with a smile. “I don’t know, but he agreed to meet Director Zhang.”

“That’s great!” Tan Yin hugged Si Tang excitedly. “I knew with you in charge, it’d be fine!”

Si Tang couldn’t help but laugh, though a faint bitterness lingered in her heart.

Once, she had hoped to persuade Gu Yubai just as easily, to make him change his mind.

But now, they couldn’t even maintain the simplest cooperation.

As they basked in their moment of joy, Si Tang’s phone suddenly rang—it was Si Hongzhou calling.

Si Tang hesitated, then answered.

“What is it?”

“Why? Can’t I call you unless there’s a problem?” Si Hongzhou’s voice sounded irritated.

Si Tang frowned slightly, her tone cold. “If there’s nothing, I’m hanging up.”

She didn’t want to waste words with him!

“Wait, the day after tomorrow is your grandmother’s sixtieth birthday. Don’t forget…”

Before he could finish, Si Tang ended the call.

Of course she knew about grandmother’s sixtieth birthday—she didn’t need his reminder!

After hanging up, a heaviness settled over her mood.

Tan Yin noticed and comforted her, “What’s wrong, Tang? Are you okay?”

“Fine. After work, come with me to the mall to pick out a gift for my grandmother.”

“Sure!” Tan Yin agreed.

But no one expected that when they arrived at the mall, they would spot Su Yuejin with Gu Zhouzhou selecting clothes in a children’s store from afar.

Gu Zhouzhou wore a white T-shirt and black shorts, looking especially adorable.

Si Tang’s heart tightened with discomfort. She turned to leave, but just then, Gu Zhouzhou came out and immediately spotted Si Tang and Tan Yin.

Seeing Si Tang, Gu Zhouzhou’s eyes flickered with disdain, and he quickly hid behind Su Yuejin.

Su Yuejin’s lips curled into a smug smile, her tone taunting. “Si Tang? What, here to buy a gift for grandmother?”

Si Tang took a deep breath, controlling her emotions, and replied coldly, “What business is that of yours? So concerned about me—are you secretly a fan?”

Su Yuejin’s expression darkened for a moment. “Si Tang, what are you saying? Am I not even allowed to greet you now?”

“As long as you don’t scare Zhouzhou, I don’t care what you do.”

Su Yuejin’s words dripped with arrogance and scorn—her son was, after all, still under her control!

Tan Yin couldn’t stand it and stepped forward, blocking Si Tang. She sneered, “Su Yuejin, mind your own business and don’t stir trouble.”

“You…” Su Yuejin’s face shifted as she opened her mouth to retort, but Si Tang spoke first.

“Su Yuejin, don’t go looking for trouble. And it’s best if you never show up in front of me again. Otherwise, I won’t be polite.” Si Tang’s gaze warned sharply. “Things you snatch away are best guarded well—otherwise, one day they might just disappear.”

With that, Si Tang grabbed Tan Yin’s arm and turned to leave.

Watching them go, Su Yuejin’s face turned ashen, her eyes full of malice.

She bent down to Gu Zhouzhou, voice dripping with temptation. “Zhouzhou, see? Your mother doesn’t want you, but I do. I’ll treat you well, won’t I?”

Gu Zhouzhou looked up at her with trust. “Yes, Aunt Su is the best!”

Recalling Si Tang’s words, Su Yuejin felt a pang of bitterness and continued to coax, “So, Zhouzhou, how about letting me be your new mom?”

Gu Zhouzhou hesitated, then nodded. “Okay!”

Su Yuejin’s heart leapt. “Then go tell your dad to marry me, and I can be your new mom…”
