Chapter 6 6. The Two Sisters Fall into the Filthy Pool

She looked at her right hand, calling out again and again, but the Dream-Building Tower did not appear. Bai Li Tianchang had no choice but to find another solution with the materials at hand.

The next morning, when Bai Li Tianchang opened her door, there was still a black swallowtail butterfly mark on the left side of her face. After Bai Li Tianchang saw Bai Li Jin and Bai Li Gui meet, she quietly followed them. The two walked straight to the rear garden.

Suddenly, Bai Li Gui was shoved by someone; losing her balance, she tumbled headfirst into the sewage pool. At the same time, Bai Li Jin, too, was pushed and plunged into the filthy water. With two loud splashes, both began to struggle in the pool.

The water in that pool was filthy and foul, sticky and thick; it was where the General’s Manor disposed of waste and household sewage. It could not have been more disgusting. Their first reaction was to get out of the pool at once—when had noble daughters ever experienced such a revolting ordeal?

No one saw that, at the very moment they fell in, Bai Li Tianchang’s figure flashed and vanished behind the thicket.

Meanwhile, in the pavilion, the manor’s eldest son, Bai Li Guishan, was enjoying an animated discussion with the Fifth Prince and several young heirs of other noble families. Suddenly, they were attacked by a hidden assailant. Yet the attacker did not seem intent on harming them, for the concealed weapon struck only the stone pillar before them.

“Let’s go see what’s happened!” the Fifth Prince said, having caught a glimpse of a shadow flashing past. Unfortunately, the figure disappeared too quickly for him to see the attacker’s face. Still, he had clearly seen the direction in which the shadow vanished.

“That wretched Bai Li Gui! How dare she push me into the sewage pool? She’ll pay for this!” In the pool, Bai Li Jin cursed Bai Li Gui viciously as she scrambled to climb out.

“Elder Sister Jin, why did you push me into the sewage pool?” Bai Li Gui, faced with Bai Li Jin’s accusations, was deeply aggrieved.

“Despicable little wretch, how dare you turn the blame on me!” Bai Li Jin, climbing out, glanced back at Bai Li Gui, who was also struggling to get out, and kicked at her.

Bai Li Gui, having almost reached the bank, was sent tumbling back by Bai Li Jin’s kick, plunging once more into the filthy pool. This time, it was even worse than before. Bai Li Jin had kicked her hard; Bai Li Gui fell headlong into the water, swallowing several mouthfuls of the filthy, foul liquid.

It seemed Bai Li Tianchang, the so-called good-for-nothing, had been right—Bai Li Jin truly did not care for her. She actually wished for her to drown in the sewage pool, how hateful!

Bai Li Gui immediately stood up in the pool, took a few steps toward the bank, and seized Bai Li Jin’s foot with both hands.
