Chapter 137: Mewtwo: Wonderful, I’m Beginning to Understand Everything
"Your weapon is too dangerous; it’s the type that needs to be registered with Officer Jenny."
Zhu Suihan holstered his gun. "You don't know the first thing about it. This is a medical instrument."
Lance chuckled. "Medical? To treat the disease of breaking the law?"
"In principle, that is the job of you G-Men. I only concern myself with saving lives and healing the wounded," Zhu Suihan said. "If Rock-type energy hits a person and causes petrification, that’s just one application of the petrification gun."
"But if I seal elemental energy into a magazine and replace the muzzle with a hypodermic needle, it becomes a life-saving tool."
Mewtwo was taken aback. [Elemental energy injection?]
"Exactly. Though, to be honest, if a Pokémon needs this kind of emergency treatment, it truly is at death's door."
Elemental energy is as essential as breathing to them; if it reaches the point where it must be injected, the problem is severe indeed.
Zhu Suihan stroked Lapras’s neck. "The Medicine Bottle Project—it’s meant to hold onto that last breath."
"Using elemental energy injection as a catalyst and a source of cardiac stimulation, combined with Life Dew, keeps the Pokémon's body in a state of normal operation."
"With both working in tandem, supplemented by human technology to treat severely injured Pokémon, the survival rate will increase significantly."
He recalled the three small, shivering orbs of light in the Burned Tower. If he could have arrived earlier to slaughter those fools and then used this method to perform emergency resuscitation on the original forms of the Legendary Beasts—while utilizing the abilities of Lapras and Milcery—he might have been able to save them. Not to mention that his entire fortune was inside the incense burner, including century-old berries.
Perhaps the world would have lacked the roaming Legendary Beast trio and their legends. But it would have gained three innocent Pokémon that survived a disaster and were able to live out their lives in peace.
Zhu Suihan toyed with the incense burner and couldn't help but smile. "Pokémon moves are just too convenient. Perhaps my methods are the ones that are truly just clever tricks, unworthy of being called the 'Great Path'."
Just like the Blissey at the infirmary—if it were willing, the move Life Dew could truly turn into a rushing flood, transforming from group healing into wide-area regional medical care. In a world where even resurrection is possible, the lack of medical equipment is understandable. It’s because it’s not needed; even when it is, the people and Pokémon doing the healing have enough confidence to use their moves to see the process through.
"No, you should believe in yourself." Lance walked over and gave Zhu Suihan a firm pat on the shoulder. "I know what you're thinking, but whether it's the power of Legendary Pokémon or powerful trainers like your infirmary director, they are in the minority across the entire region."
"To be precise, the strong are already few, and the strong who specialize in healing are even fewer."
"In the dragon dens of my clan, even Dragon-type Pokémon, or those with dragon blood, aren't immune to illness or injury. They have times when they don't feel well, too." Lance smiled. "Even if this is just a 'clever trick' by your definition, if you promote it, you could save many more ordinary Pokémon."
"Cheer up, Suihan. You are a person of talent."
*Provided that your talent stays on the right track and you don't turn into an outlaw,* he added silently.
Lapras and Milcery huddled close, looking at Zhu Suihan with curiosity. In their experience, their trainer had never had such strange thoughts; why the sudden change today?
Mewtwo placed a hand on Zhu Suihan's shoulder. [While my expertise may not be profound, I can assist with the research.]
[Also, I can use Heal Pulse.]
Zhu Suihan: ?
He looked at the irregular, colorful energy pulse in Mewtwo’s hand, his brain briefly short-circuiting.
"Wu-wu!"
"Mil-mil!"
Lapras and Milcery were overjoyed. With a companion who could use Heal Pulse, the "Life Domain" combo they had envisioned could finally be perfected!
Zhu Suihan opened his mouth. In his memory, Mewtwo couldn't learn Heal Pulse unless you found some magical friend to teach it. Wait, actually, Mewtwo *could* learn Heal Pulse. He remembered that in a certain movie promotion event, a Mewtwo that knew Heal Pulse was distributed. Though this powerhouse could use Life Dew and Recover, and had a terrifyingly deep move pool, a single Heal Pulse didn't seem that important. But the move Mewtwo just demonstrated effectively filled a gap in his research!
"I truly am blessed by destiny!"
The white-haired man laughed, rubbing his hands against Lapras’s soft, damp cheek, then thoroughly fluffing up Milcery. Finally, he glanced at Mewtwo’s slightly tense frame and decided to just pat his shoulder instead. *Well, take it slow. Habit is a terrifying force.*
"But it makes sense. I do what I want. I use the valuable stuff to improve our meals, and I keep the cheap stuff to play with."
Lance suddenly felt something was wrong. "What exactly do you mean by the 'cheap stuff'?"
"Weapons, of course. I need more experimental data to perfect the syringe, and the magazine’s charging mechanism needs extreme capacity expansion." Zhu Suihan shrugged. "Think about it—every Pokémon has a different physiology, so I definitely need to develop a series of needle types."
"It’s not like the needle used for a Machop is the same as one for an Aggron." A normal syringe for a Machop would probably shatter against an Aggron’s hide if he tried to use it with any force. "So, this little pistol is just an initial prototype. It needs a 'few' more modifications and evolutions."
"For example, Heal Pulse. Now that my partner has this move, I can build an overclocked stun gun. Once modified, it becomes a pulse gun." Zhu Suihan mimicked firing a gun. "You get it, right? If someone is in bad shape, I shoot them to restore them. If the person opposite is an enemy, I swap the magazine and treat them to a full electrical combo."
Lance twitched his lip. "Do you know that I am already a trainee G-Man? I have the authority to arrest you right now."
*First an outlaw, then a life-saving Nurse Joy?! Who taught you to evolve like that!*
"Forget it, thinking about those things is pointless. Better to get back to the alchemy." Zhu Suihan looked at the poaching squad already tied up by Lance. "It's still early. Why don't we go find some more fun?"
Zhu Suihan looked at Mewtwo. "It's your turn this time. Remember to go easy." He was genuinely afraid that Mewtwo would leave nothing but ash with a single Psystrike.
[Understood, I will.]
Mewtwo mused privately, deciding to control his lethality to within a hundred-meter radius. Judging by the "go easy" standard shown by his trainer and companions, a hundred meters was a very reasonable figure.
[I will carry you. The view is better from the sky.]
Blue light flickered in Mewtwo’s eyes. Zhu Suihan and the two Pokémon immediately began to float, rising higher and higher until they stopped above the treetops.
Lapras’s eyes shone, and Milcery bounced excitedly on top of Zhu Suihan’s head. *We’re flying!*
Zhu Suihan looked at Mewtwo. "How’s the drain?"
[Very easy, though that is likely only from your perspective.]
Mewtwo perceived what it meant to be "trusted." If it were anyone else, their physical or mental discomfort—or even their struggle—would have made his task much more difficult. But Zhu Suihan and his companions felt no discomfort; their mental feedback was filled only with excitement, happiness, and a hint of curiosity about his top speed.
*Is this the trust of a family?* Mewtwo pondered for a moment. He didn't dislike this mental feedback, though he decided to skip the high-speed aerial joyride for now.
[Follow me. There is a medium-sized team three kilometers to the east.]
Lance looked up at the white-haired man in the sky, who looked like he was on a sightseeing tour, and couldn't help but shake his head. "Dragonite, let's go too. At the very least, I need to see how this guy operates."
How could a single Heal Pulse satisfy his curiosity about this mysterious Pokémon born from fossil resurrection technology?
"Wu-wu." *Little Mewtwo, how fast are you?* (Lapras, ever the opportunist.)
"Mil-mil!" *I’ll condense a giant cream bomb and drop it! Little Mewtwo, can you accelerate my cream bomb?* (Milcery, wanting to play aerial bombardment.)
"Your vitals are steady; looks like there's no need to worry about energy depletion." (Zhu Suihan, putting away his energy detector.)
In short, everyone had their own agenda, and everyone had a bright future.
[I am Mewtwo. Never mind.]
Mewtwo covered everyone with his psychic power, masking them from the scans of the poaching team's Pokémon and machine signals. [The altitude is appropriate. We only need to defeat them and ensure they have no ability to counterattack, correct?]
Mewtwo aimed his right hand at the target group. [In that case, it is very simple.]
*BOOM!*
Mewtwo’s palm erupted like a flamethrower, instantly engulfing the poaching squad below in a sea of fire. [Target confirmed. Precision strike.]
*CRACKLE!*
Lightning struck the ground. A powerful current of Thunderbolt enveloped both the people and their Pokémon.
[A single Ice Beam should finish it. Hmm?]
Mewtwo said, [They all seem to have entered a state of paralysis. To have such a low-probability event happen to all of them—it seems my luck is good today.]
Zhu Suihan hinted, "If you add an Ice Beam, I believe you’ll have an even deeper appreciation for that luck."
Mewtwo nodded. An ice-blue beam erupted from his palm, quickly extinguishing the flames and freezing both the people and their Pokémon solid.
Lance and Dragonite entered a deep psychic link. Through the enhanced vision, they could still see the arcs of electricity occasionally leaping inside the ice blocks. If the previous Flamethrower hadn't been used to seal off the surrounding area, those guys would probably still be suffering from burns right now.
Lance realized even more clearly how unfairly he had lost his last sparring match with this white-haired man. This wasn't a gap in training level; this was a gap between people.
Mewtwo suddenly understood what Zhu Suihan meant. [The secondary effects always trigger? Is this your special ability?]
"Not an ability. You can consider it a form of luck," Zhu Suihan said. "But don't worry, this kind of thing will never happen to us; this luck only triggers against the enemy."
Mewtwo rested his chin on his hand. [I’ve been reviewing the skills I can use, and I have a brand-new idea. Of course, this will require experimentation.]
