Chapter 7: A Penny That Could Kill a Beauty (Part 2)
But just as Han Quexi was about to give up, she noticed a gold coin being swallowed, coming to rest all alone at the very bottom of the “thermometer.”
If she didn’t spend a thousand gold coins to repair her meridians and dantian, she wouldn’t be able to cultivate. And one gold coin had already been swallowed, wasted, with no sign of any reaction!
“Give me back my gold coin!” Han Quexi gritted her teeth and shouted angrily at this broken universal system.
“Sorry, heads may roll, but gold coins are non-refundable!” The universal system’s voice, neither warm nor cold, without a trace of emotion, sounded softly in Han Quexi’s ear.
“My gold coins… What a rip-off! It takes a thousand gold coins just to make one gold coin useful? My life is so cruel!” Bitter as wormwood, Han Quexi felt her heart tighten painfully.
Sure enough, the saying was true: money isn’t everything, but without money, you can’t do anything! To that, one must add: only a large fortune really works wonders!
Glaring resentfully at the universal system, Han Quexi ground her teeth. If it weren’t for the fact that this broken system couldn’t be dismantled, she would have torn it apart many times over, just to get back the gold coins it swallowed.
With one gold coin gone, what could the remaining coin do? She couldn’t afford elixirs, nor advance her cultivation! Moreover, a two-star warrior needed five times five gold coins; a three-star, twenty-five; four-star, one hundred twenty-five; five-star, six hundred twenty-five, and so on, with the numbers escalating astronomically... Han Quexi shuddered.
Her teeth gnawed loudly as she thought, Five times! This broken system—did it really think gold coins were easy to come by?
“Ah, that’s right! I have no money, but someone else does! Especially that old man!” Recalling the silent elder in the Bitter Bamboo Grove, Han Quexi sneered slyly.
The silent elder loved to drink Hundred Brew, and each pot cost one gold coin. Since Han Quexi had known him, she had never seen him without his Hundred Brew. No matter how frugal, he drank at least one or two pots a day. Calculating that...
Tsk tsk! At that thought, the silent elder transformed in Han Quexi’s mind into a huge, shining golden treasure! “I still have one gold coin in hand—time to buy some Hundred Brew. Hehe, that should bring back a hundred gold coins!”
Having made up her mind, Han Quexi smiled with narrowed eyes, bought the Hundred Brew, and chuckled as she headed toward the Bitter Bamboo Grove. The sky was still early, and the silent elder’s disciple was sweating profusely, practicing swordsmanship in the clearing before the bamboo hut.
“So cheap, so cheap!” Han Quexi sneered as she approached, clapping her hands in admiration. Yet her expression looked more like scolding.
The silent elder’s disciple was Leng Feng! True to his name, he was utterly cold. Hearing Han Quexi’s words, he cast her a disdainful glance before resuming his sword swings and thrusts.
The bamboo sword glimmered under the sunlight with a mysterious, dark golden sheen—a genuine treasure! Now, with the universal system, Han Quexi’s first thought was: how much is this worth?
Thinking it a treasure, Han Quexi couldn’t help but inch closer, salivating as she gazed at the bamboo sword’s golden gleam, her eyes like X-rays constantly scanning it.
“Move aside!” Han Quexi blocked Leng Feng’s sword practice, but he snapped coldly in disgust.
Hearing this, Han Quexi lifted her head, staring at Leng Feng’s handsome face as saliva dripped from her mouth: “Such a big piece of gold…”
