In the bitter bamboo forest, the wind rustled the leaves softly. The scorching sunlight filtered through, yet it did not feel hot. With the breeze sweeping through the bamboo, it was as if one stood inside an air-conditioned room—cool and refreshing. He Qiaoxi, who had come this way on a journey, couldn’t help but emit a soft sigh, narrowing her eyes.

“How pleasant... If only right now there were a spicy grilled chicken to go with this, the taste... hmm...”

“He Qiaoxi, if you want to daydream, you can go back to your He family. Why do that in front of me?” Leng Feng looked quite displeased. Yet under the shade of the bamboo, He Qiaoxi closed her eyes, muttering something incomprehensible, then stuck out her tongue to lick her lips.

At fifteen or sixteen, when feelings first awaken, Leng Feng was no novice in matters between boys and girls. Even if he hadn’t experienced it himself, he had certainly seen enough.

Seeing He Qiaoxi so enticing, Leng Feng swallowed hard. But then he snapped back to reality—he had come here to train with Master Wu Ming, not to act like a playboy chasing women in this rundown countryside!

Awakened, Leng Feng glared fiercely at the unabashed He Qiaoxi and scolded her sharply. Tossing aside his sword, he found a spot out of her sight, sat cross-legged, and began to cultivate.

“What’s wrong? I was just reminiscing about a past life, is that not allowed?” He Qiaoxi hadn’t realized the real issue. Muttering to herself, her eyes suddenly lit up. She immediately dashed into the inner hall to fetch the elderly Wu Ming, who had just emerged from seclusion.

“What do you think he’s doing? I didn’t do anything! He wanted to practice swordsmanship; I didn’t disturb him. I was just standing under the bamboo, contemplating life! At most, I murmured that it was so comfortable here, and if only there was a spicy grilled chicken, it would be even better!”

“Oh, I see now!” As He Qiaoxi finished speaking, Wu Ming suddenly slapped his own thigh with a shout. He Qiaoxi’s eyes fixed on the old man’s thigh.

She mused inwardly, that thigh couldn’t possibly belong to Wu Ming. If it did, why would he slap it like that? Such a forceful slap!

He Qiaoxi forced a dry laugh, imagining Wu Ming’s limbs like those of a zombie—only a bit better—thinking they could somehow attach to her own body. The more she thought about it, the more she believed it, since Wu Ming walked with a limp, one leg shorter than the other.

Realizing this, He Qiaoxi quickly let go of Wu Ming’s hand and put some distance between them.

“He must have been tempted by your mention of spicy grilled chicken! Lately, his cultivation has become rather ascetic. Plus, the old man hasn’t gone out to buy any tasty food recently, so hearing you say that must have awakened his cravings. But since he can’t eat it, and it interferes with his training, he can’t blame himself—so naturally, he blames you!” Wu Ming spoke as if unaware of He Qiaoxi's changing expression.

Turning back, he noticed she had stepped three meters away. “Do you think my guess is correct?”

“Absolutely, you’re right! In that case, why don’t we go hunting in the Whispering Wind Forest and catch some wild chickens? I’ll make spicy grilled chicken for you all—how does that sound?”
