Chapter 29: Mentoring and Settlement
About twenty meters ahead, Yang Siyao heard a voice and looked around in all directions, searching for Fu Chen’s figure. Since the team channel’s voice came through like a phone call right by her ear, she couldn’t pinpoint the direction by sound alone.
Seeing this, Fu Chen weaved through the novice players battling monsters and reminded her, “Find my position on the regional map—it’s to the north.”
From a distance, he saw Yang Siyao turning around, comparing her direction with the map. Finally, she confirmed the location, looked up, and saw Fu Chen walking toward her.
Yang Siyao beamed brightly, quickening her pace until she was running, then threw her arms around Fu Chen in a tight embrace.
“Fu Chen, I’ve missed you so much! I never thought I’d get to see you in this world ahead of time. You should have told me sooner—how mean!”
She joyfully poured out her longing, her voice slightly choked toward the end, laughing and crying all at once.
Fu Chen, held in her arms, froze instantly. He clenched his willpower to resist the urge to strangle the person in his embrace and told himself firmly:
“Stay calm. You can’t kill anyone here. Absolutely no premature exposure. I must be a good actor—yes, a good actor.”
Convincing himself, he put on a smile again and gently pushed Yang Siyao away.
“Alright, it’s only a summer vacation. You have to go home to visit your uncle and aunt. Besides, the summer break is almost over.”
“Yes, being able to see you in this world right now is such a wonderful surprise,” Yang Siyao said, wiping away tears and smiling.
Yang Siyao stood at about 1.62 meters tall, with well-proportioned features and a graceful figure that drew the attention of those nearby.
Her facial features were symmetrical, exuding a fresh, clean aura. Though not strikingly beautiful, she was certainly very pleasing to the eye.
Watching her laugh and cry over him like this, Fu Chen felt certain—at least for now and for the next two years to come, her feelings for him were genuine and without any pretense.
As for why, in their past life’s final moments, Yang Siyao had tried to poison him, that was irrelevant.
Reasons and justifications were never questions Fu Chen concerned himself with. He only focused on how to exact revenge and settle old scores.
Yang Siyao frowned and complained, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t you miss me at all?”
“What are you thinking about?” Fu Chen chuckled softly and ruffled her hair to cover his own thoughts.
After a pause, he explained, “I’m thinking about how best to guide you as a newcomer. Have you accepted the Guide’s mission yet?”
Yang Siyao smiled sweetly. “Yes, I have. I need to kill twenty Green Ants, but I haven’t found any yet.”
“Follow me,” Fu Chen said, turning to lead the way. “The Green Ants are to the west and south sides of the Pengcheng Inn. You’re looking in the wrong direction.”
Yang Siyao followed briskly, curious. “I read online that the rules of this world are like those in online games. Can I skip these tasks?”
Fu Chen pondered and replied, “Any world can be seen as a game, just different types. Many tasks are optional, but if you don’t do them by level nine, you can’t awaken your class.
You’ll have to go back and complete those tasks eventually. It’s better to follow the prompts step by step from the start.”
Along the way, Fu Chen shared practical knowledge, saving Yang Siyao the trouble of exploring on her own.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the Green Ants’ territory.
Looking ahead, countless novices were busily fighting monsters.
Yang Siyao was stunned and muttered gloomily, “Isn’t today only the third day? Why are there still so many new players everywhere? How can we complete tasks like this?”
“No surprise, there are new players like you every day. Don’t worry, I’ll help you with your first two tasks.”
Having said that, Fu Chen equipped his bow and stepped into the crowd of monsters, drawing his bow and firing in all directions.
His feathered arrows flew true, each shot instantly killing a monster.
The novices nearby were dumbfounded and quickly voiced their disbelief.
“Hey! Little bro, I just ran over and you killed the monster first—that’s cheating!”
“No way! You’re a level ten big shot? What are you doing in the newbie village?”
“We’re running around chasing monsters with wooden swords, and you just stand there firing arrows in all directions?”
Yang Siyao laughed watching all this—these people were so amusing.
“Heh, sorry, I’m just helping my girlfriend with a task,” Fu Chen said with a smile.
Then he continued, “Monsters should be fought fairly. Why don’t you join the party? We can take you along.”
No sooner had he spoken than he received multiple requests to join the team. Instantly, the party was full with ten members.
Fu Chen drew his bow and shot monsters while loudly announcing, “The party’s full. No more additions.”
This sparked a chorus of groans and complaints from those left out, while the lucky new members rejoiced at catching a free ride.
With Fu Chen’s help, the entire task was completed in under three minutes.
If it weren’t for waiting on monster respawns and Fu Chen’s reluctance to change locations and steal others’ monsters, it could have been even faster.
After Yang Siyao handed in her task, Fu Chen led the entire party to the outskirts of Sword Immortal City, to the five-star stag beetle monster zone.
They wiped out twenty five-star stag beetles at a speed that left the surrounding novices wide-eyed, then led the party into Sword Immortal City.
At the elder’s hall, Fu Chen handed over several skill books he had prepared to Yang Siyao.
“Yaoyao, these are the skill books I collected earlier. Learn from the elder here.”
Once Yang Siyao learned the level one skills, Fu Chen took her southward to complete the elder’s assigned quests.
They visited the blacksmith, tailor, pharmacist, and craftsman shops—the main vendors in town.
Other novices in the party, seeing the tasks were all the same, tagged along as well.
After helping Yang Siyao buy a suitable weapon, Fu Chen decided not to continue guiding her.
In a serious tone, he said, “Our levels are too different. If you follow me, your cultivation will grow too slowly. It’s better for you to do tasks with everyone else.”
This arrangement had been agreed upon during their phone call earlier that day. Though reluctant, Yang Siyao had no choice but to accept.
She nodded obediently and said, “Alright. I’ll try to level up quickly to catch up with you. Then we can always be together.”
Fu Chen voluntarily left the current party, watching Yang Siyao walk far ahead, then sneered softly and turned away.
He sent a message to "Wasteland," asking where she was. The reply surprised him greatly.
She was actually with Zero and Yu Meiren, the three of them enjoying the view at the waterfall in Sword Immortal City.
Almost immediately, an invitation to join their team arrived. Just as Fu Chen joined, Qin Yumo’s voice came through.
“Hong Chen, the scenery at the waterfall in Sword Immortal City is beautiful at night. Come over and take a look with us.”
In their past life, Fu Chen and Yang Siyao often enjoyed such moments together.
When they first entered the Perfect Continent, the long hours of monster hunting and leveling wore them down. They would spend their free time sightseeing and relaxing.
They had explored nearly all the beautiful spots in the Perfect Continent.
Sword Immortal City’s waterfall, being the closest and most accessible scenic spot, was no exception.
Fu Chen effortlessly made his way to the waterfall and saw three relaxed girls chatting together.
Two of them, including Qin Yumo, had changed significantly from before.
No longer clad in mismatched battle armor, they now wore fashionable modern clothes that radiated elegance.
Hearing footsteps approaching, Qin Yumo stood, turned, and smiled at Fu Chen.
“The Perfect Continent’s currency has been synchronized with Blue Star’s. Haven’t you checked out the Treasure Mall yet?”
