Chapter One: The Unfortunate Time Travel
“How despicable! This is outrageous!”
“This is a case of uncle being tolerable but aunt intolerable!”
“Heavens above! How dare you mess with me!”
In the Qingyuan Marquisate of the Great Yong Dynasty, inside the Huiyue Pavilion of the Marquis’s residence, a short-legged little girl puffed out her cheeks and stood with her hands on her hips, fiercely pointing at the sky.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning descended from the heavens. Although the girl quickly covered her head and rolled aside, the lightning struck precisely at her feet.
Startled, she cried out and hurriedly hid under a tree. She wanted to continue complaining, but the memory of the lightning made her lower her voice in fearful murmurs.
“Heavens above, I didn’t mean to curse you, but just look at what you did—does a grandmother do such things to her granddaughter?”
“Here I am, Lin Zhaozhao, a single career woman doctor from the 21st century, a model student since childhood, always helping with crowdfunding, even assisting the elderly across the street without hesitation! But you, of all things, let me get struck by lightning just as I stepped outside, causing me to transmigrate into a book!”
“Not only that, but I transmigrated into the malicious supporting female character from that novel I read last night, ‘The Overbearing Emperor’s Fierce Love: The Delicate Lady of the Prince’s Mansion Cannot Bear It!’”
This malicious supporting character was also a poor unlucky girl bearing the same name as her.
She should have been the cherished darling of the Qingyuan Marquisate, but right after birth, a midwife swapped her with a stray kitten. It was only three years ago that she was brought back to the mansion.
At first, the family felt guilty and tried to make amends, but the original girl’s eccentric personality and lack of education, combined with the false heiress Lin Wanyue—who was the pampered protagonist—made her return unwelcome. Lin Wanyue faked cries, tantrums, and even attempted hanging herself, eventually resorting to scheming to break both of the original girl’s legs.
The Lin family gradually grew resentful of the original girl’s perceived obstinance.
The original girl caused all sorts of trouble: spitting on the heroine, pulling off her hair accessories, and stealing her favor.
This wearied the family, and as expected, the original girl met a grim fate.
Reflecting on the original Lin Zhaozhao in the novel, she thought, “Isn’t this ridiculous? What does it mean to steal the heroine’s favor? Isn’t this the Qingyuan Marquisate, my own family?”
“Stupid novel, idiotic author!”
Just then, a sharp pain hit her head. Suddenly, someone was knocking loudly at the courtyard gate. It was her younger brother, Lin Qingci, speaking with anger.
“Lin Zhaozhao! Wanyue just woke up after taking her herbal medicine. What are you hiding in the courtyard for? Come out and apologize! Forget about pushing her down the stairs!”
---
Three days ago, there had been a major uproar in the Qingyuan Marquisate.
The original girl and the heroine had argued in the small tower, and Lin Wanyue inexplicably tumbled down from upstairs.
Startled, the original girl tried to reach out, but Lin Wanyue pushed her away, causing the original girl to hit her head. This was witnessed by Lin Qingci, who immediately accused the original girl of pushing Lin Wanyue without hearing her side and angrily scolded her before carrying Lin Wanyue away.
The original girl was tongue-tied and couldn’t explain. Overcome with fury, she closed her eyes—and then transmigrated!
“Great! So this brat at the gate is also the reason I transmigrated!”
“Just perfect! I’m bursting with anger. They want me to be the villainous supporting character? Let’s see how I deal with them!”
Lin Zhaozhao slammed the door shut.
Lin Qingci nearly fell over but steadied himself and said angrily, “Lin Zhaozhao, you’re the one who did wrong. Why are you acting crazy here?”
[Ridiculous. Me? Doing wrong? A gem unpolished is useless; a brother who doesn’t scold doesn’t understand!] Lin Zhaozhao’s words came from her mind.
Lin Qingci was stunned. Did she just curse him? He was about to speak when he realized she hadn’t moved her lips. Had he imagined it? Or had he missed her speaking?
He looked down puzzled.
[What are you staring at? A future eunuch with a lush green hill atop his head as chief steward dares to call me crazy? This is outrageous!]
Lin Qingci’s expression twisted. The mystery was solved—Lin Zhaozhao truly hadn’t spoken aloud!
Moreover, Lin Wanyue and the servants nearby seemed not to have heard anything, so he must have heard her thoughts!
“Lin Zhaozhao, are you cursing me in your mind?”
“So what if I am?” Lin Zhaozhao lifted her chubby cheeks. The ten-year-old girl wore two little buns on her head, looking soft and adorable, but her words were fierce as she pointed at his chest.
“Even if I hit you, no one would dare say no!”
“An elder sister hitting her younger brother is only natural!”
“Today, I’ll make you understand your place in the family!”
Lin Qingci quickly took two steps back, dumbfounded.
The family either found it difficult to get close to Lin Zhaozhao or rejected her outright. For three years, she had always been on her best behavior toward him and the family, never speaking so harshly.
---
Lin Wanyue hurriedly stepped forward to block her and said, “Lin Zhaozhao, what are you doing? I won’t argue about you pushing me down the stairs, but how dare you hit my brother?”
“You say I pushed you down the stairs?” Lin Zhaozhao tilted her head. While Lin Wanyue nagged on, Lin Zhaozhao suddenly stepped forward, her gaze cold.
“…Yes!” Lin Wanyue stared at the suddenly imposing Lin Zhaozhao, as if she had transformed in an instant. Her heart skipped a beat, but before she could react, Lin Zhaozhao lifted her skirt and kicked down forcefully!
Since she was being accused of things she never did, she might as well own up to something and vent her frustration!
Lin Wanyue didn’t even have time to dodge and tumbled off the threshold.
Thud.
“Big sister, are you okay?” Lin Qingci snapped back to reality and rushed to Lin Wanyue’s side.
He turned to scold Lin Zhaozhao but saw her rubbing her head with a defiant look. Inwardly, she complained,
[It’s just a three-story-high step. What harm could it do?]
[Damn, that little white lotus is ruthless; she fell from the tower herself and still made my head hurt until now!]
[Could it be a concussion?]
What concussion? Does that mean her brain was swinging on a swing?
Besides, Lin Wanyue was the one injured—why would Lin Zhaozhao’s head hurt?
Lin Qingci’s accusations faltered as he instinctively glanced at Lin Zhaozhao’s forehead, where there was indeed a small red bump.
The boy was stunned. So Lin Zhaozhao had been hurt that day too?
Was her head hurting now?
Then why hadn’t she said anything back then?
