Chapter 107: Then Let’s Start With You

“Not good, Commander. They have taken hostages. What should we do?”
Xiaoxiao crouched beside Shen Chaoxi, watching the masked criminal across the way inside the residential building.
He had a gun.
That meant the hostages were in danger.
Shen Chaoxi pressed her lips together, her gaze turning cold as she fixed her eyes on the criminal.
“Tell me, how much longer until dawn?”
The criminal lifted his eyes, a smile curling at the corner of his mouth as he pressed the gun against the girl’s head.
He stood beside a window in the abandoned residential building, the sinister darkness in his eyes spilling forth.
“Starting at dawn, should I kill one person every minute—or every thirty seconds?”
His grip tightened around the gun as he held it against the girl’s head. His eyes narrowed slightly, his smile vicious.
Xiaoxiao’s expression darkened.
Her brows drew together. “He actually came up with killing one person every minute!”
What did they take human lives for?
Did they think they could kill people whenever they pleased?
But criminals like these often had no conscience. Just as they had said, they wanted revenge against the military.
They wanted to play a game with them: starting at dawn, one person every minute.
They spoke as casually as if they were slaughtering chickens.
These people had long since lost all reason.
“Waaah…”
The girl’s face was streaked with tears, and her muffled sobs drifted from the abandoned building opposite them. Every special forces soldier lying in wait in the darkness changed expression.
The criminals had hostages in their hands.
They knew the military would not dare open fire.
“Bitch!”
The criminal’s expression suddenly changed. His gaze turned cold as a sharpened blade, and he pressed the gun against the girl’s head.
“What are you crying for?!”
As he spoke, he abruptly raised his leg and kicked the girl in the body. Pain tore a cry from her.
“Mm…”
He seized her by the hair and dragged her back, jamming the gun hard against her forehead.
The vicious darkness in his eyes seemed to spread through every limb. Damn it—the thing he hated most was hearing women cry!
“Shut up!”
“Waaah…”
The girl’s mouth was sealed with black tape, so she could not speak at all. Terror made her entire body tremble.
“Do you believe I’ll blow your brains out?!”
At that moment, Shen Chaoxi’s gaze turned cold.
The criminal was treating the girl with brutal cruelty simply because he had a hostage in his hands, acting as though he could do whatever he pleased.
Gun control was strict in Country Y. The fact that all these criminals possessed firearms made the situation especially difficult.
“How long until dawn?”
Shen Chaoxi turned her head and asked the soldier beside her, keeping her voice low.
The soldier checked the time and immediately reported, “Commander, there are less than two hours until dawn.”
It was summer.
The sky brightened early.
That was why the criminals hiding in the residential building opposite had chosen this time deliberately.
The first light would come at half past five.

Shen Chaoxi pressed her lips together. Her black hair, soaked by the rain, clung heavily to her body, making the rainy night seem even more sinister. She paid it no attention. Her thoughts were entirely focused on how to capture the criminal group across the way.
What could they do?
Xiaoxiao was considering the same question.
The situation was becoming increasingly tense.
The main problem was that the criminals had hostages, and they were all hiding inside the abandoned residential building opposite. How could the soldiers rescue the hostages without harming them?
After all, this was no minor matter.
It involved more than a dozen human lives.
This was a matter of life and death. They could not think only of capturing the criminals and earning military merit.
Yet in the cold, gloomy rainstorm, people were hidden throughout several residential buildings.
They were highly trained special forces soldiers. Faced with such formidable opponents, the criminals were actually wary of them.
So they had resorted to the method they knew best.
Torturing and killing hostages.
In the eyes of criminals like them, spilling a little more blood meant nothing.
But the soldiers of Country Y were different.
They were certain to fear for the hostages’ safety.
The criminals understood this weakness, which was why they dared to behave so arrogantly and recklessly.
In the sinister rainy night, the two sides remained locked in confrontation, neither making a move.
The criminals intended to use their hostages to achieve their goal of leaving Country Y.
But their patience was limited. If the military continued to keep them waiting, they would truly start killing.
Unless they gave the soldiers a warning, those people would never understand fear.
No response?
Fine.
Then at dawn, they would kill them one by one until none remained.
People as terrifying as these criminals were capable of anything.
Killing was nothing.
Even if military personnel fell into their hands, they would still dare to execute them without hesitation.
No one knew how much time had passed.
The rainy night remained silent, but the criminal was clearly losing patience.
“What? You still don’t intend to agree?”
He narrowed his eyes and cast a sidelong glance at the building opposite. His tone was mild, yet carried the smug malice of someone who believed himself entirely in the right.
Dawn was almost here.
From their position, they could see only the eerie silence of the residential building.
So they guessed that countless military personnel were lying in wait inside.
All of them would have their guns trained on the criminals.
What remarkable composure.
He had already spoken so plainly, yet the soldiers could still remain unmoved.
But they had hostages in their hands. That was their source of confidence.
“Then the game is about to begin.”

“Who should I start with?”
A smile played at the corner of his mouth, while an indefinable malice lingered in his eyes. He glanced at the young girl he was holding hostage.
“You?”
“Or…”
He began choosing whom to kill first.
But Shen Chaoxi noticed that after his gaze fell on the girl, he looked toward the group of people behind him.
It seemed that all the hostages they held were gathered there.
From her angle, however, she could not see the other captives.
The situation was becoming dangerous.
“Commander, what should we do?” Xiaoxiao asked anxiously.
If they still refused to respond, these criminals might truly do something utterly deranged.
Shen Chaoxi’s brows were tightly drawn, her gaze icy.
The pressure on her was immense. Her mind raced as she searched for a solution.
Yet her eyes remained cool and calm. Not the slightest trace of panic could be seen.
Suddenly, amid the stillness of the rainy night, water rushed over the leaves and shattered the fallen branches scattered across the ground.
The sky gradually turned gray-blue.
Dawn was approaching.
Shen Chaoxi stared into the deepening darkness beneath the storm clouds, her expression grave.
Then the criminal across the way suddenly gave a vicious smile and violently shoved aside the girl standing in front of him.
He chose a young boy instead.
The boy appeared to be only seven years old. Just the top of his head showed above the others, and all that could be heard was his crying, blurred by the downpour.
“Then you’ll be the first.”
The criminal suddenly dragged the boy forward and pressed the pistol against his head.
Shen Chaoxi spoke sharply.
“Wait!”
Through the cold curtain of rain came the military’s answer from the residential building opposite.
And it was exactly what the criminals had expected.
“We agree to your demands!”
“Do you?”
The man still wore a lingering ferocity on his face. He slowly turned his head, his eyes narrowing into a cold, mocking smile.
“But unfortunately, you’re too late.”
“Don’t!”
Shen Chaoxi’s eyes trembled.
The moment she realized what was about to happen—
Bang!
The world seemed to fall silent.
Blood splashed across Shen Chaoxi’s eyes.
She frowned.
Her heart seemed to stop beneath an unbearable weight.
