Chapter 84: One Against Two

“War God Secret Art?”
Feng Liudao stared at the armor materializing around Zhong Shan, his expression changing.
“The Wei Clan’s War God Secret Art? How do you know the Wei Clan’s War God Secret Art?” Feng Liudao asked with a frown.
“Feng Liudao, I’ll say it again: if you give up the teleportation array and leave Blackstone City, I’ll let bygones be bygones,” Zhong Shan said in a deep voice.
“Hmph!”
A cold snort escaped Feng Liudao’s lips. “Do you really think you’re my match just because you have the Wei Clan’s War God Secret Art?”
“Besides, the Wei Clan would never have given you the core techniques of the War God Secret Art!”
As he spoke, a long blade appeared in Feng Liudao’s hand. The moment the blade emerged, a fierce aura spread out, so intense that everyone present felt as if the very air was suffused with a blade intent capable of grinding them to dust.
“What a powerful blade aura…”
Wang Changsheng looked shocked. Though he couldn’t sense the changes in the environment like the others, as a practitioner of the blade himself, he was particularly sensitive to such things.
Neither Zhong Shan nor Feng Liudao was willing to give ground, and the pressure radiating from their bodies grew ever more intense!
Boom!
At last, many buildings in Blackstone City could no longer withstand the pressure and exploded, triggering a chain reaction as cracks began to spread across the very earth of the city.
“The teleportation array is gone!”
Wang Changsheng watched as the teleportation array flashed with a dazzling brilliance before shattering under the overwhelming might. He paid no mind to the fight between Feng Liudao and Zhong Shan—he couldn’t make sense of it anyway—but Blackstone City was finished, and so was the teleportation array. Wang Changsheng knew he’d have to continue his journey on foot.
“It’s over… Blackstone City is finished…” Chen Shangyi muttered. “We need to move back even further, or we’ll be in serious danger!”
If Chen Shangyi had been alone, he might have stayed closer to observe true cultivators of the Golden Core Path in action. But with Wang Changsheng and the other disciples of the Corpse Refining Sect present, even a small mistake could have dire consequences.
The group retreated a considerable distance before stopping, watching from afar as the two combatants finally clashed!
A flood of overwhelming power crashed down, collapsing the entire city of Blackstone. Nothing remained of the city; the very ground where it once stood had sunk into a massive pit. Had they not just retreated, Wang Changsheng would have thought this place was a desolate wilderness.
Only flashes of white and red could be seen as Zhong Shan and Feng Liudao fought, accompanied by thunderous detonations. Even at such a distance, the crushing aura was palpable.
“So this is the power of Golden Core Path true cultivators…” Wang Changsheng’s face was full of awe.
But all he could do was be astonished, because, besides the white and red lights, he could see nothing. Every now and then the ground collapsed, and he only realized it after the fact—he had no idea when the bursts of true essence occurred.
The Corpse Refining Sect disciples, on the other hand, watched with rapt attention, almost as if entranced.
“Pfft!”
As Wang Changsheng marveled, he suddenly saw Chen Shangyi spit out a mouthful of blood, his face turning pale.
Yet there was no trace of pain on Chen Shangyi’s face. Instead, a smile broke out.
“So that’s how it is… so that’s how it is!” Chen Shangyi’s excitement only grew.

Within just a few breaths, Chen Shangyi’s excitement abruptly vanished.
“Someone else is coming?”
Confusion replaced excitement on his face. “What’s going on today? Are Golden Core Path true cultivators gathering here en masse?”
A mighty wave of pressure shot in from the distance, utterly unconcealed. Having just witnessed Zhong Shan’s arrival, everyone immediately realized that yet another Golden Core Path true cultivator was approaching!
Many cultivators shifted their gaze to the Core Formation realm cultivator guarding the teleportation array.
“It wasn’t me, I swear! I only invited Senior Zhong Shan…” the Core Formation cultivator protested at once.
Everyone grew even more perplexed. It was rare enough to see a single Golden Core Path true cultivator in a century, and now there were three—and two were already fighting!
As the new aura drew near, the crowd got a clear look at the newcomer.
“Never seen him, never heard of him…”
“I’ve never heard of anyone dressed like that. I wonder which senior he is…”
“Seems no one knows who’s arrived, but one thing’s certain: he’s definitely a Golden Core Path true cultivator!”
...
Confusion deepened among the onlookers.
Though the Southern Domain was vast, each Golden Core Path true cultivator was a figure of renown. Even peak Core Formation experts were well-known in their regions. In fact, every Golden Core Path true cultivator was famous throughout the entire Shentian Realm.
“Feng Liudao, you court death!”
The newly arrived Core Formation cultivator, upon seeing the two combatants, didn’t hesitate. With a furious roar, he plunged straight into the fray!
Moreover, his target was Feng Liudao!
“What’s going on?” Many cultivators were bewildered by the sight—why attack on arrival? They turned to the teleportation array’s guardian for answers.
“It really wasn’t me!” The guardian cultivator was exasperated. Managing to invite a single Golden Core Path true cultivator for help had only been possible because of the teleportation array—Blackstone City’s array was under the Wei Clan’s control, and Zhong Shan happened to be a guest of the Wei Clan. Without that connection, he could never have convinced someone of Zhong Shan’s caliber to help.
It was only thanks to the Wei Clan’s influence!
Now, another Golden Core Path true cultivator had arrived and attacked Feng Liudao directly!
The array guardian had no means to invite a second such expert.
“I don’t know him either!” the Core Formation cultivator said gravely. “But if I’m not mistaken, he must have a grudge with Feng Liudao!”
“Did you really need to say that?!” someone retorted. Since he wasn’t here to help, and attacked Feng Liudao on sight, of course it meant they were enemies!
Feng Liudao had originally been dominating Zhong Shan, as his strength was superior. But now, with a second Golden Core Path true cultivator joining, Feng Liudao’s situation immediately became precarious.
“Hahaha, you came at just the right time. I was waiting for you—but you’re too late!”

Though Feng Liudao was now being pressed by two opponents, he burst into laughter.
From his words, it wasn’t hard to tell that occupying the teleportation array was precisely to wait for this other Golden Core Path true cultivator.
“Old Devil Feng, you’ve wronged my family too many times. Today is the day you die!” the newcomer bellowed.
“Two against one, that’s a little unfair…” Wang Changsheng remarked with a hint of mockery.
Even though he couldn’t understand the intricacies of the duel, from the way Feng Liudao’s shadow kept retreating, he could sense that Feng Liudao was not a match for the two combined.
“He may not necessarily lose,” Chen Shangyi said gravely. “Although Feng Liudao is forced back again and again, each retreat is measured and controlled.”
Wang Changsheng couldn’t discern these subtleties, so he simply shook his head in resignation.
“Great Void Art?!”
Just then, Chen Shangyi’s voice sounded in surprise.
“Great Void Art? What’s that?” Wang Changsheng asked, puzzled.
Chen Shangyi didn’t answer, but watched the newcomer with a thoughtful expression.
Wang Changsheng waited silently for him to finish thinking.
“It should be the Great Void Art…” Chen Shangyi murmured. “I can’t believe I’d encounter it here…”
Then he turned to Wang Changsheng and spoke softly, “The Great Void Art is a secret technique of the Lijia of Shangyang—a very powerful one.”
“To think that the newcomer is from the Lijia of Shangyang!” Chen Shangyi said solemnly.
One of the Corpse Refining Sect’s missions this time was to forge an alliance with the Lijia of Shangyang.
Wang Changsheng had already learned from the All-Knowing that the Lijia of Shangyang was in the Southern Domain, but he never imagined he’d encounter them so soon after arriving.
“You’re sure?” Wang Changsheng asked. “You’re not mistaken?”
It was natural for Wang Changsheng to doubt. After all, Chen Shangyi had never left the Corpse Refining Sect, and even if he knew the Lijia’s signature art, he could still be wrong.
“I shouldn’t be,” Chen Shangyi replied with a frown. “The Great Void Art is very distinctive. There’s no mistaking it.”
Wang Changsheng gazed at the Lijia’s Golden Core Path true cultivator, deep in thought.
“It’s a pity. As marvelous as the Great Void Art is, Feng Liudao’s cultivation surpasses theirs. The two of them are unlikely to defeat him,” Chen Shangyi said quietly. “I’d guess that Feng Liudao is at the late Golden Core stage.”
“He’s that strong?” Wang Changsheng exclaimed in disbelief.
No sooner had he spoken than he saw a red light blasted backward—it was Zhong Shan, sent flying by Feng Liudao’s blade, his expression unsettled.
To be struck down in front of everyone by Feng Liudao was a humiliation for a Golden Core Path true cultivator like Zhong Shan.
Now, even the Lijia’s expert was being forced back by Feng Liudao.
A few exchanges later, the Lijia’s cultivator too was sent flying by a single stroke—this time, even Wang Changsheng could see it clearly.
“Feng Liudao against two—could he actually slay both of them alone?” Wang Changsheng was stunned.
“Impossible!” Chen Shangyi immediately declared. “Golden Core Path true cultivators are formidable because they’re not so easily killed. Each one has their own means of survival. Even if those two are defeated, escaping shouldn’t be a problem.”
