“Go love someone else—I think you’ve lost your mind,” Han Hao said bluntly. “Do you really believe that just because you’ve killed a few Crescent Moon Cultists and made a small contribution, the entire Crescent Moon Cult is a bunch of fools? And you want to plant an undercover agent? Haven’t we thought about this before? Almost all the undercover agents, those who infiltrated the Cult, ended up dead.”

Han Hao was furious. The main reason was that he felt this wasn’t something Chen Meng should be involved in.

After all, Chen Meng was just a high school student.

But Chen Meng remained unmoved by Han Hao’s words. “I have my reasons for doing this. If I don’t, he will find a way to join the Crescent Moon Cult himself. Uncle, I know what I’m doing. Don’t treat me like a child. Of course I understand the consequences of being an undercover agent—most likely, nine out of ten people die. But if death is inevitable, then dying in pursuit of a dream is a worthy death.”

“Pursuing a dream?”

Han Hao looked at Chen Meng skeptically. Pursuing a dream by infiltrating the Crescent Moon Cult?

Chen Meng nodded. “Yes. The one who wants to go undercover in the Crescent Moon Cult is my classmate, Ni Hu. Because of his genes, he cannot ascend to a Divine Body Lifeform. But the Crescent Moon Cult has something called the Wish Spring Water, which can help him ascend. His entire life is devoted to this goal. No one can stop him.”

Han Hao said nothing. He naturally knew about the Wish Spring Water.

It was incredibly rare—even their Jiangzhou City Law Enforcement Bureau didn’t have it. And even if they did, it wouldn’t be given to Ni Hu.

From the bureau’s perspective, Ni Hu wasn’t worth investing any cultivation resources.

“Is Ni Hu really so determined to join the Crescent Moon Cult?”

Han Hao pondered. Whether or not he agreed to cooperate with Chen Meng, if someone was joining the Crescent Moon Cult, he had to intervene—that was his duty.

Chen Meng nodded. Even if he didn’t help Ni Hu, Ni Hu would find a way to do it.

“They’re all mad,” Han Hao muttered. He already thought Chen Meng was crazy enough, but Ni Hu seemed no less so. “Tell me your plan first. I want to hear it before I say anything.”

“All right.” Chen Meng felt encouraged that Han Hao was willing to listen; clearly, there was room to maneuver. “Here’s the plan: Everyone knows about the conflict between Ni Hu and me. I took his top spot in class, and I became a Divine Body Lifeform, which made him full of jealousy. When he jumped off the building that time, I provoked him into it. Outsiders would think he hated me to death. That’s enough reason for him to want to kill me. So, on the last day of the college entrance exam, out of jealousy and hatred, he tried to stop me by shooting at me on my way to the exam. He wanted to ruin my dream of entering Jiangdu University—or even kill me. But I subdued him, and you guys took him to the bureau. Then, the bureau arranged for a Crescent Moon Cultist to imprison him in a cell…”

Listening to Chen Meng’s long explanation, Han Hao fell into deep thought.

He had to admit, Chen Meng’s plan was actually quite solid, though he was reluctant to go through with it.

“I’ll consider your undercover plan. For now, focus on your studies and prepare for the entrance exam,” Han Hao said after some thought. This answer left Chen Meng somewhat confused. “What about the second matter?”

Seeing Han Hao change the subject, Chen Meng didn’t press further. “Oh, the second matter. I plan to buy a new house for my family in a better location, preferably one where Divine Body Lifeforms live, so my parents will be safer. You know my situation now—since even the Crescent Moon Cult knows I’m their nemesis, there’s no telling when they might go after my family if they can’t get to me.”

The Crescent Moon Cult did attack ordinary people sometimes, but they restrained themselves because too many such attacks would provoke more counterattacks.

Han Hao nodded. As the district chief of the bureau, he sometimes worried about this too.

After a moment’s thought, he said, “The safest places are government offices like the bureau, and university-assigned housing for teachers. Most Divine Body Lifeforms in Jiangzhou City are concentrated there. Wait a moment—I’ll check something.”

Chen Meng looked at Han Hao curiously, unsure what he was going to do.

About ten minutes later, Han Hao looked up. “There’s still one internal employee housing unit available at the bureau. It’s occupied only by bureau employees, with Divine Body Lifeforms on guard every day. It’s quite secure. If something were to happen there, it would mean the entire Jiangzhou City had been overrun by the Crescent Moon Cult.”

Chen Meng’s face lit up. “Is there really such a place? Can I buy it?”

Han Hao smiled. “Of course. The price is a bit cheaper than on the open market. I’ll arrange for someone to show it to you.”

Chen Meng nodded. Han Hao then called his driver, Xiao Li.

Han Hao briefed Xiao Li on the situation, and Xiao Li immediately understood what needed to be done. Xiao Li drove Chen Meng about ten kilometers to a new residential area.

The entire neighborhood consisted of low-rise buildings, only six stories tall, with the top floors being duplexes of around two hundred square meters.

“This is the bureau’s internal purchase housing this year. There are about 2,200 units, and the price is reasonable—only 5,200 yuan per square meter, with very little shared space,” Xiao Li explained as they entered. “The landscaping is excellent, and there’s a large scenic lake in the center—notable even in Jiangzhou City. Many bureau employees have already moved in, and more will come. As for the surrounding commercial facilities, you probably noticed—the location is excellent, with good school districts and transportation.”

“Indeed, it’s great.” Chen Meng had already looked at the map and realized this was practically the heart of the East District. Crucially, it was less than ten kilometers from the bureau, and driving a flying car from the bureau took less than five minutes. It was indeed a safe place.

“Let’s go see the unit,” Xiao Li said, leading Chen Meng to a building near the lake. They took the elevator to the sixth floor. Chen Meng was stunned to find only two households on the entire floor, and both seemed to be fully furnished.

Xiao Li pulled out a key, opened the door to the eastern unit, and led Chen Meng inside.

“601, a duplex: five bedrooms, three living rooms, three bathrooms. Three bedrooms downstairs, two upstairs, totaling 222 square meters,” Xiao Li said. “Take a look. If you like it, you can buy it. But I must warn you, selling this unit to outsiders is complicated.”

“I understand.” Chen Meng studied the place carefully and grew increasingly satisfied. The price was just within his budget.

Twenty minutes later, Chen Meng told Xiao Li, “I’ll take this one.”

Xiao Li wasn’t surprised and nodded. “Sometimes I really wonder if you’re the district chief’s real nephew. Otherwise, how else could you get the district chief’s wedding house?”

Chen Meng was baffled. “This was Han Hao’s wedding house?”

“Yes,” Xiao Li said helplessly. “But the chief said he didn’t need it. If he marries Sister Zhang Ya, he’ll move to her place.”

“What do you mean?” Chen Meng was puzzled and somewhat embarrassed. How had he ended up occupying Han Hao’s wedding house?

“Zhang Ya is wealthy and lives in a villa with a housekeeper. The chief would be going there…” Xiao Li caught himself, realizing the comment was inappropriate, and quickly stopped.

But Chen Meng understood perfectly and blurted out, “Is he planning to live off her? Is that it? He looks so honest, but I didn’t expect such thoughts. Anyway, could you ask him if his nephew can live there too? I don’t feel comfortable with him living alone.”
