Chapter 4: The Feeling of Rebirth
Lying on the bed her sister once slept in, Wang Lingyi barely slept a wink throughout the night. She spent the entire evening poring over her sister’s diary—not merely to revisit Kong Lingxin’s past, but to memorize every detail about the Meng family, so she would never be caught off guard.
After a night of intense study, Wang Lingyi knew that her father-in-law and mother-in-law were Meng Haoquan and Chen Meilan, her brother-in-law was Meng Zeting, and her sister-in-law was Yang Shanshan. The very mention of Yang Shanshan’s name sparked a flicker of resentment in Wang Lingyi’s large eyes—
Her younger sister-in-law, Meng Zefei, was studying in the United States and had seen Kong Lingxin only a few times. According to the diary, though this younger sister-in-law was cold toward Kong Lingxin, at least she had never caused her any real hardship.
Meng Zexiao and Kong Lingxin lived in a seaside villa, while the Meng family’s main residence was home to Meng Haoquan and his wife, as well as Meng Zeting and his wife. Yang Shanshan had been married into the Meng family for nearly five years but had yet to bear them a grandchild. When the news of Kong Lingxin’s miscarriage first broke, one could only imagine how overjoyed that woman must have been, probably ready to leap to the rooftop.
At dawn, Wang Lingyi finally fell asleep.
When she opened her eyes again, she heard Guima knocking at the door: “Miss, it’s time to get up. Your husband is downstairs waiting to take you home.”
Wang Lingyi glanced at the clock on the bedside table and was surprised to see that it was already 10 o’clock.
Rubbing her still-drowsy eyes, she called out, “Alright, I know. Go tell him to wait a moment; I’ll be down as soon as I finish freshening up.”
Guima hesitated briefly before retreating downstairs.
In just a few minutes, Wang Lingyi was ready. She never wore makeup; she simply combed her long hair neatly over her shoulders, slipped her sister’s diary into her backpack, and headed downstairs.
At the foot of the stairs, she noticed Kong Changdong and his wife talking with Guima, seemingly explaining something to the legendary Meng Zexiao, though she couldn’t catch the details. Like her sister, she was drawn to the same man’s appearance. He wore casual attire—a white T-shirt paired with brown trousers—that added a youthful touch to his mature, distinguished aura. His physique, looks, and temperament were all top-notch.
Unlike Kong Lingxin, who insisted on wearing skirts in the summer, Wang Lingyi seldom owned skirts. For someone who loved sports, skirts were a hindrance.
The handsome man looked up at “Kong Lingxin” and paused in surprise. This was probably the first time he had seen her in jeans and a T-shirt. Though a simple outfit, it accentuated her curves beautifully.
That momentary pause was caught by Wang Lingyi.
Lu Fang turned to Wang Lingyi with a bright smile: “Xin’er, today Zexiao specially came to pick you up, but you still lingered in bed a bit longer. You’d better apologize to him properly when you get home.”
Wang Lingyi shot a lazy glance at Meng Zexiao and said, “It was only ten minutes; no need to apologize!” Her voice still carried the languor of someone just awakened.
Everyone inside froze, including Meng Zexiao. This woman had been gone only a month, yet seemed transformed. Previously, she had always looked lovestruck at the sight of him, eager to prepare days in advance when she learned he was coming to fetch her. What was going on now?
Fearing Meng Zexiao might take offense, Kong Changdong quickly smoothed things over, “Xin’er’s been at home too long, spoiled a bit by me and her mother. Zexiao, don’t take it to heart. Well then, Xin’er, it’s getting late and Zexiao’s very busy. Hurry and go home with him.”
Wang Lingyi glanced around and asked, “Where’s Tian Ling?”
Guima replied, “The young master is still asleep.”
“I’ll go tell him. Who knows when I’ll see him again,” Wang Lingyi said.
Without waiting for their shocked reactions, she turned and headed upstairs.
Lu Fang called after her, “Xin’er, don’t keep Zexiao waiting too long!”
“I know!” Wang Lingyi answered, effortlessly bounding up the stairs, radiating youthful vitality. Meng Zexiao inwardly muttered, could a miscarriage really cause brain damage?
Having completed all the farewells she deemed necessary, Wang Lingyi finally left the Kong residence with Meng Zexiao.
Watching the blue Porsche fade from sight, Guima muttered in disbelief, “Today Miss managed to freshen up in just a few minutes. Before, it always took her at least half an hour—truly incredible. And the way she looked at Master now was completely different from before.”
Lu Fang glanced at Guima. “After going through such a big ordeal, it’s only natural for Xin’er to change a little.”
Guima nodded. “Yes, actually I think this version of Miss is better—brighter, more cheerful, like a young girl.”

The moment she left the Kong family’s home, Wang Lingyi quietly accepted in her heart that she was now truly Kong Lingxin.

Meng Zexiao entered the villa alone first, where a servant came out to take Kong Lingxin’s bag. “Second young madam, you’re finally back.”
Noticing the mole to the left of the servant’s forehead, Kong Lingxin smiled warmly, “Thank you, Sister Qi. It’s been a long time.”
Sister Qi, seeing the second young madam’s rosy cheeks and radiant expression, couldn’t help but praise, “Your complexion looks excellent, second young madam. Although a bit darker than before, you look very healthy.”
Once inside the living room, Kong Lingxin had a clearer view of the villa’s interior, which surprised and awed her. This was no mere villa—it was practically a luxurious palace. The living room was open to five floors, decorated in a European style that made the entire residence resemble a majestic castle. There was even an elevator to avoid climbing the stairs.
Damn! So extravagant! Truly a super-wealthy family!
Meng Zexiao was nowhere to be seen in the living room. The servants, assuming the second young madam was searching for him, quickly said, “Young master has gone upstairs. Second young madam, would you like a cup of your favorite milk tea?”
Kong Lingxin snapped out of her thoughts. “No, thank you. Sister Qi, please take my bag to my room.”
She said this because she had no idea which of the many rooms in the villa was hers. She couldn’t ask the servants, nor could she check each room herself.
Sister Qi led her to a south-facing room on the second floor and stood at the door. “Second young madam, here’s your bag. Take a rest first; I’ll call you when lunch is ready.”
Kong Lingxin took her backpack and entered the room where Peng Nan and Meng Zexiao had once shared intimate moments. She hung her bag on the coat rack and stared fixedly at the large bed draped in white linens. Remembering every word her sister wrote in the diary, every fiber of her being radiated with fury.
At that moment, the sliding door behind her moved. She turned to see Meng Zexiao emerging from the bathroom, his upper body revealing a tantalizing six-pack—
Now, as a pure virgin in this body, Kong Lingxin’s face flushed scarlet. She turned away and softly scolded, “Pervert!”
